Project of the Month Design Studio_ 1styear Priyank Prajapati| 1st year | 2nd semester

Design Studio exercise was focused on living spaces understanding and design process understanding. In this module, students were given a role-play of three different people having an interest in playing Drums (Tabla), writing poems (Poet), and making Art painting & sculpture (Artist). These personalities would reflect as their inspirations analyzing the person, character, activities, and visuals. Further, the ideas will develop the sense of space development for an assigned identity. The site was given a hypothetical understanding of the place. The site was expressed with a sloping mound of 15 mts level from the ground. The mound has 3 levels for experimenting for living and working spaces in 15mts, 10mts, & 7mts with natural water streams. Contextual features like water streams, trees, hillocks, and pathways were generated for an ideal site location. The design process began with an idea of personal identity, activities, character, living, and working habits. Such process took students to develop a sense of designing working space and living space for the assigned character respecting the site and its surroundings.

Process based on overlay series of action on three dimensional geometric object. Action`s like smashing, push pull, extrusion, scaling, peeling, etc. were overplayed along with selection of suitable material. The actions help them to visualize the implication from one action to a series of actions superimposed over each other as layer; which allows explore in volumetrically. Hence, mapping of the volumetric deformation of a three dimensional geometric shape to derive harmonious composition is achieved.

Know your Alumni Prototype For Rural Railway Station New prototype for rural Ar. Taha Padrawala | Ar. Praveen Suthar | Ar. Jaimen Patel

The project was about to design a new railway station, which can replace the decadeold railway station prototype building. Prototype was designed for rural areas, using conventional materials like brick and RCC with local craftsmen. The a 9m

old given structure prototype was single-story structure measured x 50m with untreated elevation.

Design decision was to separate public and private rooms in different level which ultimately made more spacious with added function like double-height volume space. Further material explored as an elevational visual with stone Crete plaster as an exterior finish and oil paint as an Interior finish.

Thoughts & Meaning In Architectural Discourse Online Teaching: A way forward and Architectural Teaching Before this Pandemic, during my History of Architecture classes when the students did not respond , I used to sarcastically say, “ Am I talking to the walls”? Who knew that talking to the students without actually seeing them would become the accepted mode of Teaching Called the Online teaching. Immediately after the outbreak of Pandemic Schools and Universities shifted to this Online Teaching Platform as it emerged as an effective tool for One To One interaction, learning anytime and delivering quality education accessible to larger groups. Still it poses a few challenges in teaching the most integral subject of Architectural Education the Design Studio. Architectural design Studio teaching involves various steps where one to one discussion with students plays a crucial role. In regular Offline Teaching the student benefits from group discussions whereas Online Teaching at times leads to anxiety issues due to isolation. My experiences of dealing with Architectural Studio Teaching Online has given me a few important lessons: • The instructions from the teachers should be clear and synchronized and the outcome should be clearly defined. • The teachers should be very prompt in responding to the queries of the students which shall make the student feel that he/she is been taken care of. • The student should be dealt with very patiently as technical glitches faced by the students may be embarrassing. • Due attention should be given to the most shy student and enough screen time given to each one of them. As we have witnessed a shift in Architectural Practices from manual skills to technology driven practices, environment of Studios in Architectural Schools will slowly be technology driven even after the Pandemic gets over. Let us face the challenges and be open to the opportunities offered by this online teaching mode.

Dusk & Dawn Present Scenario of Teaching Things have changed at its grass root level of whole life, relationship, working place, rejuvenation, connections and attitudes. One cannot compel his emotions and in other hand he becomes totally hapless and feeble to stand alone as single voice. Stay alone stay home remain in touch with world through means which is non living and without feeling artificial alien unworldly digital. Commonly life has turned 360 degree with postures like we do during sleep as if new ice age era has virtually stated every single entity has started freezing as it is new born baby/ product or in world itself. The process of frozen products have taken their own place and started operating from that point, place or zone . To me things are halting the movement are slowing down visa of trans continents are getting containments this will lead to further despair of the situation lonely and self centered not accepting nor getting accepted. As the whole world around is grinding halt, as if motion film suddenly becomes a picture frame. This has given lots of opportunities to observe things around very minutely and in-depth whether it’s a workplace or family level or in social friends. Here at my workplace lots of interaction happening during teaching got into a totally different mode that which could be referred to as many times but at individual’s will. The whole sense of learning shifted to online faceless teaching which was a part of discussion among the teachers and our principal respected Prof. Rajan Sir, today it has become a really faceless teaching. Online gave different challenges both to students as well as teachers sitting in their respective cabins places within home. This helped students and worked made a very strong physiological impact of getting knowledge. And also deprived them as the other side of the coin that was communal working with the fellow and competitive group. College acting as platforms and witness to this unending trauma for its impacts on various fields in academics. New influx or the regular batches taught at different semesters to the graduate students, as new professionals in the much-awaited and required professional sector, in public or private catering to need of developing smart cities and the country as whole giving it at the right time the fresh architects to build and grow India to new heights.
