Module 1: A Point in Space As conceptual elements, the point, line, plane, and volume are not visible except to the mind’s eye. While they do not actually exist, we nevertheless feel their presence. We can sense a point at the meeting of two lines, a line marking the contour of a plane, a plane enclosing a volume, and the volume of an object that occupies space. When made visible to the eye on paper or in three-dimensional space, these elements become form with characteristics of substance, shape, size, color, and texture. Module 2: Volumetric/ Elemental Drama Transformation of form extraction- insertion: Extraction & Insertion + exploration through sectional drawing. Further Appreciating & Adapting 1st Excercise process will be explored with Spatial perception and Architectural exploration by Extracting and Adding multiple Elements as an insert for the model volume. creating sencible and qualitative sense to the functional space use or explored in daily routine life. Experementation of the volumetric space further with longnitudal and transverse sectional details and representing with architectural based drawing in 2D & 3D. Module 3: An Exhibition space The Exhibition spaces envisaged to be a viewing gallery for the visitors primarily, but it should be flexible enough to handle auxiliary functions/ activities on a moderate scale. The participants are expected to create a stand-alone structure that would generate an exhilarating experience for the visitors. Competitors can propose any intuitive and innovative programming that can enhance the cultural space. Design Ideas: The play and function of exhibition space need to be understood within a volume of 6m×6m×6m. The first impression of the given volume gave way for the concept from a RUBIK’S CUBE. Initially a twisted RUBIK’S cube shape was created by adding and subtracting the required shapes. This created an outer envelope for the space to be utilised. The internal spaces with the “walk & talk” Idea were designed in forms of plans, sections and elevations. inspirations taken from cases AMDAVAD NI GUFA, SABARMATI AASHRAM contributed to an effective display of the elements: positive and negative spaces, diffuse lighting, spatial distribution, steel columns, high ceilings and mezzanine walkway were some of them. The combination of these features helped to create rooms that are able to transform themselves express the dialogue between art and architecture

Projecting New Initiative towards Research CHANGING MOSAIC: Re- imagining the Future of Wada Precinct, Vadodara Urban Studio Research Project (USRP) proposed by Council of Architecture, New Delhi We at COA, S.V.I.T. - Vasad, faculty team are selected for the research project on “The Urban Studio Research project” by Council of Architecture, New Delhi, to proactively engage in issues of the built environment in our cities. The thrust is on helping cities achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UNDP. This research has emphasized the importance of cultural landscape of core city area of Vadodara, which are unrecognized due to its changing urban character with time. The existence of cultural neighborhood precinct, comprising of primarily large residential units, commonly called as Wada along with socio cultural institutions like, Temples, Akhadas, Wadi (Marriage halls), Schools, & public spaces prevailed in the core city of Vadodara from the time of Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad since 1734. very fragile. Hence this research addresses a title “CHANGING MOSAIC” Re-imagining the Future of Wada Precinct, Vadodara. Addressing Cultural sustainability and community values, where culture contributes to the urban fabric of the city.
The oldest part of the city is demarcated as walled city area, which consists of four gates, formally known as Daulatabad, established in 1511 AD. It consisted of residential typologies of Khadkis and Wadas. Neighborhood structure of Wadas and Pagas were further developed in the adjacent area called Wadi outside the walled city. Later, new development occurred from the walled city called Raoji Appaji pura and Babaji Appaji Pura having such typology of Wadas, and there precincts having strong neighbourhood character of Siya baug, Dandia Bazaar, Raopura, Babajipura, Salatwada are examples of various culture that coexist together with unique urban built fabric. The traditional design have gone through several convergence and transformation from its original design form many such Wadas were found this sign of change, which were recorded namely Majumdar Wada, Abhayankar wada , Tanbekar Wada, Bhave wada, Majumdar wada, Sitarambua Wada, Bhaskar-vitthal Wada, Shastri Wada, Manekrao Akhada, nilkantheshwar mahadev temple precinct, group of Pagas. The role of civic art and belongingness of these neighbourhood units disappeared, so they became very fragile. Hence this research addresses a title “CHANGING MOSAIC” Re-imagining the Future of Wada Precinct, Vadodara. culture contributes to the urban fabric of the city.
“ETHNOGRAPH” – An inquiry into the Wada’s precincts as manifestation of cultural neighborhood structure. “The Urban Studio Research Project” (USRP) 2021 by COA, SVIT Vasad attempted an inquiry into the socio- cultural neighborhood precincts, densely densely composed fabric of the core city area in the Vadodara city. This is an attempt to connect dialogues between place and people focusing ethnographic attributes of the built as well as non-built spaces. This experience has given us an insight of the place as first hand source of information and helped to create interesting findings in the process of research with unique spatial configuration of the Wada’s neighborhood precincts. AMUL, FOODLAND A CONTEMPORARY MULTI-CUISINE RESTAURANT DESIGN Concept and Design Approach: The approach to the design was to create a space that is rustic yet classy with a contemporary vibe to it, by curation of experiences through charming ambience and delectable food. The design considers different dining occasions by establishing separate dining environments throughout the restaurant. The space with its exposed brickwork in the backdrop, industrial ceilings embraces the raw beauty of the well-proportioned space. The design takes a route of simplicity, cleanlines forms and uncluttered interiors. The linear programme inside is designed parallel to the glazed, garden lawn facing windows in order to leverage views and natural light. With a total of 2000 sq. meters, planning wise the area is divided in 2 parts for kitchen and dining. The spatial planning of the restaurant includes an entrance bay, the fixed seating bay, and the kitchen. Floor plans were designed as an open space with intuitive two linear passages connected endwise. A yellow frosted glass door marks the entrance with clear transparency between the entrance bay and the seating bay by glass panelled wooden French design frames. Design Elements: The design team decided to preserve the existing elements and use common grounds from the client’s brief and design sense to create a well-crafted masterpiece that has plenty of design elements. The design is replete with rustic, industrial and out of the box design elements that complements the contemporary vibe of the space - be it the compartmental sitting with a roof below the main roof or the roughly finished kadappa stone flooring. The compartmental sitting has a MS grid ceiling, with terracotta plates placed alternatively. The tables and chairs are designed by the studio architects and assembled by Comfy Furniture with Circular pendant lights are set above the dining area, hung on the matt black anodised cable tray with perforated panel.

Smart Cities are defined in various ways by different people, but all have an underlying concept that being “smart” involves using information and communication technologies (ICT), the internet to address urban challenges. The rapid growth in use of computers, electronic devices and gadgets in today’s urbanized world, leads to more production, consumption and generation of Waste Electrical or Electronic equipment (WEEE) or E-Waste. E-Waste is a hazardous waste, thus there is a challenge to manage it and its proper disposal. The authorized E-waste recycling facilities in India capture only 3% of total E-waste generated; the rest makes its way to informal recycling yards in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Ahmedabad is selected among the first 20 Smart Cities in India under the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Urban development (MOUD), Government of India (GOI). Ahmedabad also ranks sixth among the top ten Indian cities generating E-waste. The paper describes a study of the existing scenario of e-waste management; the level of awareness in the people for the disposal of e-waste by surveying the formal and informal sector, consumers/end-users, small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in the city of Ahmedabad.

Thoughts & Meaning In Architectural Discourse
Light Asso. Prof. Preety Shah | COA Historically, light and shelter are basic tenets of architecture. While the latter is concerned with protection from natural elements; the second dominates the creative and sometimes spiritual interaction between natural and manmade settings. One is solid and static, the other illuminates and animates. From the moment we enter our existential space, light silhouettes and interposes our lives. It inspires and motivates us. It frames our experiences and illuminates our memories. We use light to describe what we see, how we feel and what we do. Light essentially plays a more important role in our lives than we could ever begin to imagine. Architects through the ages have preoccupied themselves with how to marry these two opposing aspects of architecture, a marriage that at its finest transforms natural light itself into a building material. Across historical periods, building elements used to harness light has been a zeitgeist - the matrix of human civilization. It could be in the form of a light shelf, light pipe, slit window, clerestory, skylight Lighting has always been associated with architecture since man started living in caves the source of this light varies from time to time. There the source of light was through firewood. Now it is high tech-systems. Whatever be the level of technology adopted, lighting undoubtedly changes the perceptions of space. Le Corbusier, the father of Modern Architecture accentuated the inseparable relationship between light and form in his famous statement, “Architecture is the masterly, correct, and magnificent play of masses brought together in light. Our eyes are made to see forms in light; light and shade reveal these forms.” Light Reveals Architecture; Light Reveals Experience; Light Reveals Form; Light Reveals Space; Light Reveals Meaning.

Thus, Light is an important architectural DESIGN TOOL. It has the ability to bring architecture to life.
Inner city of Vadodara: A Sustainable Development Prof. Swara Shah | COA Inner city of Vadodara - a sustainable environment “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs called sustainable development (WCED 2000)”. And the city that able to feed itself with minimal reliance on the surrounding areas and having optimum use of resources to fill the basic needs of the citizens is called a sustainable city. All a sustainable city need is to have balance between its economical, social and environmental systems. The inner city is an original settlement (core) of any city around which the new city (periphery) develops and expands. Core and periphery both are having strong linkages. In India, the outer city may depend upon the central core but the core is always self-sufficient. So, Inner city is the city in a city, which is socially and economically prosperous from its time to till date. The inner walled city of Vadodara was built in 1511 AD as a trading centre. City was of one square kilometer area with four gates on each direction. The city was very compacted in size and had mixed land use pattern. Economic and social activities are concentrated. Vadodara was one of the oldest developments of Gujarat culture of Pols and Khadkis. In inner city of Vadodara, the development was limited in small, walkable and compact area. The residential areas segregated according to the caste, community, economic status and trades. Market places with mixed land use either reduced or no travel time from home to work. All the assets of human daily life were manufactured in the small scale as cottage industries and sold amongst the citizens resulted in less production cost and high human efficiency. Pol housing clusters and narrow pedestrianized lanes are favorable for residents in tropical climate also provides interactive community life. Every house had shared spaces like Otlas to interact. All facilities were available at less travel. Compactness was providing safety. The city had greater prosperity with great living conditions. The beautiful inner city of Vadodara teaches many lessons of sustainable development and giving a responsibility to the future generations to preserve its sustainability.
