Cobb EMC warns of scams Stay vigilant We have received increased reports of utility scams in our area. Please know that Cobb EMC employees will never call you or show up on your property to demand payments, threaten to disconnect service, ask for your account information, or promote programs. Below are a few warning signs you can look for to help protect yourself from a potential scam. • You receive an urgent call, or visit to your home, unprompted and out of the blue. • The caller or visitor threatens to disconnect service and requests immediate payment. • You are asked to pay by cash, money order or prepaid card. Track Your Energy Use

Energy-saving tips to help you beat the summer heat Did you know there are simple steps you can take at home to use less energy and save money? Here are five ways you can save energy in your home all summer long. 1. Use a programmable thermostat. You can save up to 10% per year on heating and cooling costs by using a programmable thermostat. Set your thermostat to an energy-efficient 78 degrees in the summer. Save $25 at cobbemc.com/thermostat. 2. Take advantage of sunlight. Open windows to naturally cool your home. Choose curtains that allow the natural sunlight in during daylight hours.

Take control of your energy use with the Cobb EMC app. Monitor your daily energy use to better understand your habits and then decide where you can make impactful changes. Do more with the Cobb EMC app: • Make payments in real time • Report power outages and check the status of an outage • Contact us • Securely store information for quick, easy payments Download the app today at cobbemc.com/app.

3. Switch to LEDs. Replace five of your home’s most used lights with energy efficient bulbs to save up to $75 per year in energy costs. 4. Get rid of phantom loads. Use a power strip to help reduce phantom load – electronics that use standby power when turned off – and you could save up to $100 a year just by unplugging unused appliances and electronics. 5. Close your garage. Keep garage doors closed in warm weather to keep the heat out. For year-round energy-saving tips, visit cobbemc.com/save.
