Cobham Hall Model United Nations

On Saturday, we welcomed over 50 external delegates from local schools to take part in our exciting MUN conference.

The day saw a wide range of heated debates and passionate discussions on topics such as water security, children’s privacy, and human rights.

Congratulations to our Year 12 Secretary Generals, Alyssa, Jessica and Poppy, for their dedication and for their huge contribution to the success of this year’s conference

Although, of course, countries disagreed on the various issues, it was fantastic to see everyone come together to represent diverse opinions and listen to each other’s ideas

Overall, the day was a huge triumph, and we would like to say a big thank you to Miss Williams and the MUN team for organising the event

Artist of the Week

The artist of the week is Nora, Year 13, who has produced an A Level project based on her identity and culture. She started her coursework halfway through Year 12 and Nora explored the mini themes of portraiture, landscape, architecture and society. Nora has produced a 3000-word essay, three A3 sketchbooks as well as a range of paintings to explore her theme. Huge congratulations to you Nora.

Years 7-9 Printing Workshop

On Saturday 18th March, Lower School pupils took part in a dry point printing workshop. This technique involved scratching an image into a plastic tile and then adding ink to the plastic plate. Artists then removed most of the ink from the surface, but the ink stayed in the grooves of the design. The plate is then run through a printing press onto damp paper. Students learnt a lot about how much ink to use and how much to take away to create different effects. They all produced fantastic work. Well done to all involved.

Before After

Elder’s Success

Cobham Hall Elder, Britta, has been in touch to share her news. After graduating with a 1st in Biology and Psychology from Lancaster University, she has now been accepted to study graduate medicine at the University of St Andrews. She wrote:

Dear Mrs Thompson and Dr Marin,

I just wanted to write to you to tell you that I have received and accepted an offer to study graduate medicine at the University of St Andrews starting this September. Thank you both for your help with my UCAS application and, again, for everything you have done for me over the years. I definitely wouldn't be lucky enough to be where I am without all of the teachers at Cobham!

I hope to make it down to see the daffodils soon.

It is always a pleasure to receive updates from our former students, and we wish Britta the best of luck with her new course in September.

Shakespeare Production

Our Year 9s travelled to London on Thursday, where they spent the day rehearsing for their Shakespeare performance at The Shaw Theatre

They explored inside the Globe and then walked along the Southbank towards the National Theatre to give them a London Theatre taster.

They then spent the remainder of the day on stage, practising their production, before giving a fantastic performance in the evening.

Congratulations to all our students for their exceptional performance and all their hard work and preparation, and a big thank you to Mrs Gorman and Mr Mangan for organising the production.

Revising with Harley

Last Friday, Anna, Year 10, attempted to revise with Mrs Wood’s dog, Harley. Although we’re sure he can be an excellent revision partner when he tries, we’re not convinced he was concentrating very much!

Spring Time

It was lovely to catch a glimpse of spring on Thursday afternoon as the sun made an appearance from behind the clouds and brightened up our School grounds.

Drama Trip

On Wednesday evening, our Drama students took a trip to London and watched “&Juliet” at the Theatre. They had an amazing time, and even met the cast afterwards. Once the show was finished, the Year 12 students enjoyed a meal with Mr Mangan and Mrs Gorman.

Netball Success

Congratulations to our Year 10 Netball teamthe P.E. department are beyond proud after their win against Fort Pitt Grammar on Thursday night, with an impressive final score of 14-9.

Olivia G was selected as player of the match by the opposition, who said "their GD was insane! She was flying through the air”.

Elizabeth was awarded coaches’ player of the match - a genuinely difficult decision, as the whole team played to the absolute best of their ability. Their excellent communication, speed of play and skill level led them to this success. There were also a few players taking part in their first match, so huge congratulations to them, too.

CSI Cobham

On Saturday, we welcomed 26 students from local primary schools to take part in our exciting STEM Academy CSI Cobham Murder Mystery: Who Murdered the Deputy Head.

Using the evidence provided, the visitors were tasked with uncovering the identity of the perpetrator of this heinous crime.

The young detectives analysed the suspect list and used forensic techniques to investigate the data and uncover the truth.

Was it Mr Mangan’s fizzy drinks? Mr Janowicz’s chalky soil? Mrs Caveney’s salty tea? Miss Williams’ engine oil? Mr Potter’s fruit sherbets? Or Mr Kipling’s cupcakes?

We would like to say a big thank you to our visitors for joining us and to everyone who helped during the day.
