Ancient Art of Man and Animal Tracking, page 7 with Freddy Osuna Get introduced to the ancient art of ground sign awareness, more commonly known as tracking. After a brief lecture on tracking principles, the class will move outside to continue the lecture, see a demonstration and put newly acquired knowledge to the test.
Oasis Bird Sanctuary Field Trip, page 7 Founded in 1997, the Oasis Sanctuary was the first avian rescue organization in the United States to become a nonprofit sanctuary for exotic birds.The Oasis was established to provide permanent sanctuary placement and care to companion birds when other options did not exist. This two-hour guided tour will provide participants with the opportunity to see and learn facts about the many fascinating exotic birds living at the Oasis.

Damian and Mongoose – A Real Life Story of Counter Espionage with Danny L.Williams A true counter espionage story! A Short Course in Monsoonology with Glenn Minuth What causes the Mexican monsoon season? The regional scale weather phenomenon that develops over southwest North America from July through September is associated with a dramatic increase in rainfall in a normally arid region of the U.S. and Mexico. We’ll investigate how our summer thunderstorm season initiates, the various meteorological mechanisms supporting the monsoon regime, and why 60 to 70 percent of the annual rainfall across northwest Mexico occurs during these three months. We will examine regional rainfall characteristics to include vertical wind profiles; topographic influences; and the importance of moist “gulf surges;” and the dynamic formation of thunderstorms through the use of climate/weather maps and satellite images. Trips, Tours and Nature Hike the Catwalk with Glenn Minuth For those seeking solitude and escape from modern society’s busy lifestyle, a cool, refreshing trip is planned to a spectacular stream canyon. Whitewater Creek (Catron County, New Mexico) is a unique feature in southwestern New Mexico that presents an always vibrant journey along a path reflecting the local mining history. Our final destination, the Catwalk, follows a path of the pipeline built in the 1890s to deliver water to the mining town of Graham.Today, metal walkways are bolted to the steep canyon walls.Twenty feet below the metal grates of the Catwalk is the exhilarating view of the swiftly flowing water. Join us for a totally unique experience to see the historic canyon hideouts of Geronimo and Butch Cassidy and the beautiful pink volcanic rocks of the canyon’s sidewalls.There will be an approximately 2.5 mile hike and some climbing on stairs with a handrail. Historic Camp Naco is the site for the Battle of Naco which is the only Army outpost that had permanent buildings during the early 1900s.This tour includes plenty of time for you to explore the protected buildings and grounds. Lunch is included at the Turquoise Valley Golf Course (a Mexican Buffet). The Slaughter Ranch homestead includes the old adobe house, granary, ice house, commissary, wash house and barns. Red Cross Training Red Cross training combines lecture, interactive video demonstrations and hands-on training to teach participants lifesaving skills. One-year certifications are awarded upon the successful completion of a course. Standard First Aid covers treatment for a variety of sudden illnesses and injuries, including strokes, seizure, bites and poisoning; burns and wounds; heat and cold emergencies; and head, neck and back injuries. CPR instructs how to respond to cardio and breathing emergencies to include performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.Training is categorized by adult, child and infant CPR. Community Outreach Cochise College has sponsored the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Cochise County since 1988. The SBDC is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and business owners start up, manage and grow their businesses. In 2009, the Cochise College SBDC held 70 seminars for over 300 business owners. The SBDC also provided counseling for 1,793 clients, which helped create approximately 135 new jobs.
