Dazzling New Classes! Soap Making, page 9 with Tim Black Handcrafted soap was first documented in Babylon around 2800 B.C. While the methods may have slightly changed with time, this class will show you how to make cold-process soap the old-fashioned way — by hand. You will make a one-pound loaf of soap to take home and share with family and friends. Additionally, you will be provided with handouts and recipes for further soap making at home.

A Woman’s Power in Progress, page 12 with Elaine Taylor Take advantage of an opportunity to be inspired and motivated by a trained facilitator in women’s studies. Taylor will lead an open conversation about relationships and self-improvement of the mind, body, and spirit. Topics like self-esteem, setting boundaries and identifying personal belief systems will also be discussed. Begin a conversation to further explore who you are and what you desire from your life.

Alpaca Picnic, page 13 with Zia Bishoff and Lisa Robertson Discover the alpaca lifestyle through lecture and interactive experiences. Owners Zia and Lisa will share the history and background of alpacas as well as discuss the care, feeding and other costs of raising these amazing animals. Join us for hands-on fleece evaluations and show-ring demonstrations. You will have an opportunity to get up-close and pesonal with the alpacas to take pictures so bring a camera. The seminar will be followed by a picnic lunch (provided) in the barn, an optional felted soap craft activity and time to shop in the ranch store.

Beginning Yoga, page 15 with Kate Hudak Get introduced to basic yoga postures or perfect your current yoga routine. A comprehensive explanation of postures and how they affect the body is given. Modifications into more advanced postures will be explained and encouraged also. This will be a great class to relax your pace and start your day.

Special Interest Death at Desert One – After Action Analysis of the Iran Hostage Rescue with Glenn Minnuth In April 1980, the U.S. launched a top secret “Delta Force” mission to liberate 50 American hostages from the American Embassy in downtown Tehran. Eight U.S servicemen tragically lost their lives after the mission was aborted early. This presentation examines the planning and decision making processes leading up to the staging of the raid, as well as the execution and “fog of war” experienced after the start of this daring extended mission. Murray Springs Megafauna Fossils and Clovis Early Man with Glenn Minuth Expand your knowledge of pre-historic times in the San Pedro Valley via this combination lecture and field trip. Class will begin with an in-depth explanation on the Plio-Pleistocene fauna, presented by geomorphologist Glenn Minuth. After the lecture, visit Murray Springs, a significant archeology site containing excavations that revealed megafauna fossils of large, extinct Ice Age animals. The causes of extinction remain of considerable interest to paleontologists who have suggested that climatic fluctuations, human hunting, human habitat alteration or a blending of these three were responsible. Paleontologists continue researching these Ice Age mammals and how many of these creatures coexisted with humans towards the end of the Pleistocene. Students should bring water and wear weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen, hat and walking shoes. Also along the way, we’ll stop at the Butterfield Stage Station, a local period cemetery, the Indian Agency and a bonus stop at an earthquake fault that crosses our trail. El Presidio Terrenate with Rebecca Orozco New excavations at this archaeological site are revealing a very different perspective than when Charles Di Peso, of the Amerind Foundation, dug portions of it more than 70 years ago. Kartchner Caverns—Speleology Explained with Glenn Minuth Be part of a class that reveals the scientific principles of speleology (the study of caves) and the behind-the-scene development and exploration of Arizona’s latest gem. You’ll hear about “the things they don’t tell you about on the tour”—the speleothemic significance of the features that make this a world-class cave and those features that were discovered for the first time on Earth.
