CQI Partnership for Gender Equity in Coffee First Workshop in Cauca, Colombia Date: October 4 – 8, 2014

Join CQI for the first of our gender workshops in beautiful Popayan, Colombia. During the two day participatory workshop, you’ll join other coffee industry and development leaders to better understand the effects of gender inequality on coffee production – and provide input into how we can collectively support gender equity within our supply chains. Workshop participants will include men and women coffee producers from the Cosurca coffee cooperative, well known for its leadership in improving producer livelihoods through efforts to produce quality coffee with social and environmental responsibility. The program includes an optional “Cultural Intensive” – an opportunity to experience first-hand a day in the life of a coffee farmer, with a focus on roles within the family farm, home, and the farming community. This day will lay an important foundation for the workshop discussions. The Colombia workshop is part of a year-long collaborative research initiative spearheaded by CQI to influence our own strategic approach to development programming, and to guide industry best practice in sustainability and quality. Logistics: International travel to Popayan, Colombia, approximately 90 minute flight from Medellin or Bogota, is included. Accommodations will be at a classic four-star hotel in downtown Popayan. Ground transport, lodging, and food are included in registration. Early bird registration (before 9/12/14) is $995 for a double occupancy or $1195 for a single occupancy. (Costs after 9/12/14 are $1095 for a double and $1295 for a single.) About the area: The Cauca region is recognized for its coffee quality – which is attributed to the unique combination of factors such as climate, the rich soil, the variety of coffee trees and the hard work and commitment of the coffee growers. Popayan is the capital of the state of Cauca, located in Southwestern Colombia. This town is well-known because of its beautiful colonial architecture and its contributions to Colombian cultural and political life. It is also known as the "white city" due to the color of the most of colonial houses and places in the city

downtown, where several churches are located. Popayán has been home to seventeen Colombian presidents, as well as noted poets, painters, and composers.
