unique perspectives...fresh, new appeal FROM THE EDITOR

The first edition of Kainos was published in January of this year. We missed a few months, we re-tooled, and we found a clearer direction. When I look at that first issue, I cringe just a bit because it is evident we were trying to appeal to everyone, and so ended up with quite a mishmash of books. But the Kainos editorial team persevered and now we are more focused in our purpose for Kainos—each month we strive to bring together the best collection of books we can find for the progressive Christian. Books that are provocative. Books that question the norm. Books that might startle you—or even make you angry. (We also hope to delight and inspire.) We are on the way to success, with your help and support, so please keep those comments and thoughts coming. As we get better and more focused, I am more proud of each issue. This is my favorite issue of all, because I was able to do one of my favorite things—suggest books as gifts. In addition to the new titles you would expect, I have listed 50 or so (I just couldn’t go smaller) of my favorite books of 2014. I know you will find something for every person on your list. Enjoy browsing and selecting and let me know what you think (and what you choose). Have a blessed and peaceful Advent and Christmas season! Mary mmccarthy@cokesbury.com
