Mn M Symposium 1 was held Tokyo 2011. An expert group of architects, urbanists and engineers, practitioners and academics from ten cities in Asia Australia and Europe, focused at key phenomena which define cities in which they live and work. Those discussions were published as Mn M Workbook 1: Intensities in Ten Cities (2013). Thirty keywords and phrases, formulated by the Symposium 1, have put the notion of urban intensity at the epicentre of Mn M discussions. Mn M Symposium 2 (2012), took a workshop format. Diverse Mn M 1 perspectives were applied to an intense investigation of the Japanese capital. Together with a number of colleagues from Tokyo, the Mn M core team has enacted an urbanological test, a methodologically radical experiment inspired by Situationists practice of dérive. The aim was to reach beyond standard data-collection and research practices, in variously sensing, recognizing, identifying and capturing diverse spatial expressions of urban intensity and quality.
