Open the file 3dpainting.psd You will find the top fuselage body, this file his prepared to be painted directly with the photoshop 2D tools.

Select the layer 1, choose camera control in the tools (01), in the top menu (02) select one orthogonal view, select a brush size, color and start work.

Painting You also can open the texture map, click on the 3d icon (01) go to 3d materials control (02) edit diffuse texture (03) select open texture (04) it will open a new file with your texture, (05) you can paint your plane in this file or directly in your 3d model, they are both connected, when you paint in the 3d model it will affect this texture, if your decoration is symmetric you just need to do half side, then flip the other side, don’t forget to save the texture to make changes in the plane model. Once you are happy with the result save a copy of this texture(05) to your desktop, you will need later.

Final steps Open the file 3dplane.psd Click on the 3d icon (01) go to 3d materials control (02) edit diffuse texture (03) load new texture pick the texture you save in the desktop. Your model should look like this, then go to the material list (04) and customized each part of the model. The only part of the model that you can paint directly into 3d model is the one your already did.

Final Tips Removing the floor plane, close the eye icon in the 3d mesh panel
Final rendering with shadows go to 3d scene panel and select quality menu - select ray traced final. If you want to make further changes don’t forget to change to interactive (painting)
