Presentation Through the year, our students from year 5 were given the opportunity to express themselves orally, by singing, dramatizing and talking, as we learn how to speak by imitating what we hear. However, we tend to write the way we speak. Have you ever thought about how hard it is to write in English? Year 5 project was born with the purpose of building a knowledge base that will strengthen students’ ability to comprehend and write. So, our very first objective was to show students how to code switch. First, we watched many videos showing people cooking or talking about food. These activities helped students improve their listening and speaking skills. Our next step was to select recipes they would like to cook. Study the characteristics of the genre and write new recipes. That was the second objective we had: to make students understand the importance of writing. Writing that explains or tells us how to do something (called procedural writing) is very important in our day-to-day lives. As we all know, there is nothing more frustrating than directions that are unclear or badly written. This project was focused on details. That is to say that our way (our process) was so more important than our final product. Students were constantly reading, writing and rewriting recipes and this whole process gave them an indescribable experience of challenging themselves to show their best. Hope you enjoy your reading.
