Hello again! Here we are, as usual, at the end of the course to show all of you, students, parents, curious internet surfers, readers, what we have done, how much we have worked throughout the year; to share with you all the writings we have devised, planned and written. As we usually say, it is always good to read these articles and writings with an open mind; they are not perfect and we don’t want them to be. There will be mistakes – some silly, some awful – but at the end of the day, this is the way we learn: from our mistakes. And yes, it is good to compare! If you have a look at the writings in the first course ESO and then read the essays in the 2nd course BACH, the difference is obvious. Mainly because this is a process and it is usually at the end of the process when you obtain the results, not at the beginning. Of course, if you compare, you can see a big difference in the quality of English, but also in the maturity of the layout, the depth of the scope and so on. You don’t have to believe us; just dive into these pages and enjoy our – YOUR – work. Thank you! Paula García. Elena González. Enrique Gutiérrez. Antonio Hernández-Ros. Marta Martínez. MY EXPERIENCE IN BRISTOL Approximately a year ago I went to Bristol, in the south of England to improve my English in a native language environment for the first term of the school year, from the start of September to the beginning of December. I went to a boarding school called Clifton College. It was huge! It was divided in the Preparatory School (9-12 years) and the College (13-17 years). The school had lots of facilities with blocks for the different subjects you learnt. It also had a giant library and many rugby pitches. It even had its own surgery with 2 floors and two doctors. It had a very big chapel at the college where they sometimes did some protestant celebrations because of an important reason because they don’t usually go to church. All the houses were around the school area. Some of them were boarding houses and some others non-boarding houses. The subjects were separated more specifically in another ones. For example, History, Geography and Science, are what we call here in Spain, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences. You also had to move to a different classroom every time you changed of activity, and the teachers stayed all time in their fixed class. The subjects were about 45 minutes length each, so you had more subjects in a day than in our normal Spanish timing. You had two breaks; one in the morning, of 10 minutes, and another after having lunch at 12 o’clock of nearly 2 hours. At the breaks you could spend your time playing outside in the playground or doing everything you wanted at the house like playing table tennis or playing with a pool table. You could also look for information and play with the computers. At the end of the day you had time to make your homework and for having a shower. Then you put your pyjamas on and

Course 2014-2015

you had lot of free time until bed time. I learnt how to play rugby. I played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We trained on a pitch near the school. I liked it a lot. We had a match every Friday. Actually, we played once against Oxford, but we obviously lost. I played in the third team and I received the award of the best player of my team. My first position was outside centre but then my coach sent me to the left wing. The game is to make the ball pass over the line and to put it on the ground without being tackled, not passing forwards and not letting the ball touch the ground. On Wednesdays we went to the swimming pool and we played water-polo or we played with the water wings. It was great fun. On Saturdays you had school until midday and then you had different activities. You could choose b e t w e e n r u n n i n g , basketball, DT, squash… We also watched a film every Saturday and you could eat your own food that you had bought. On Sundays we sometimes went to an excursion and we did many trips around Bristol. We went to the cinema, to visit the city... We also went to Clifton Village, it´s the residential area of the city where you could buy things and visit some shops that were around. There was a zoo in front of the school and we went about 2 or 3 times. The house where I lived with my partners was literally next to the school. You just had to go outside to be on the playground, that’s why I said you could stay at the house during the breaks. In the school there were people from different countries, from Brazil to Pakistan. They all knew a lot of English but each person spoke it with a different accent because of their nationalities. It was fantastic because I learnt a lot about other’s people traditions and culture and about their way of living. There were 5 English guys, 2 Russians, a Brazilian and a Chinese boy in my class. I think this has been one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life and I wouldn’t mind if someone asked me to go again because I liked it a lot and I think other schools wouldn´t be like this one. Carnation Revolution. After several days in Lisbon, we travel to Sintra, located in the mountains. In the Centre of the village stands the Royal Palace. At the top of one of the summit of the mountains is discovered DA PENA palace. A tale palace.

· On July 17, 2014 we made a long trip to a country named PORTUGAL. It took about six hours to get to a hotel and then we were several days visiting Lisbon, capital of Portugal. We saw many sights and walk through steep streets where passing trams of the last century. We approach the mouth of the river Tajo and the 25 DE ABRIL bridge. Later we visit the Tower DE BELÉM and the monastery of GERONIMOS. This monastery was erected in the place of an ancient sanctuary dedicated to the sailors. Its majestic southern facade facing the Tagus River has a splendid porch decorated with sculptures. The Belém tower was built in 16th century to defend the port. The 1755 earthquake altered the coasts and Tower stayed away from the coast while it was built on land. From this tower shows the bridge 25 April that unites both coasts of the river Tagus, is one of the largest in Europe. It was built in the year 1960, but took its name from the date of the restoration of democracy in Portugal, after the April 25, 1974

We also visited the QUINTA DA REGALEIRA, summer residence of Monteiro family. Your garden is a magical and mysterious place with access to underground tunnels connected with a large well and Lake. Finally we went to the South of Portugal to spend a few days resting in the cool beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. We do not forget to visit the CABO SAN VICENTE. By MARIA DIEZ 1º B

Letters, e-mails, po Quique Sánchez Vizcaino 4, Serragrosa st 487010 Paterna (Valencia) Ángel Herrero Bordell 6, Carlos 4 st 28027 Madrid Dear friend Quique : Some people told me that you aren´t very interested in English, actually you hate it. I´m going to try to convince you about how important is English for yor future. My dad has told my many stories that may show you the real life. Thanks to English, my father went to the U.S.A. and when he returned to Spain. He got a job, he met my mum and after many years I was born. He also told me, that a friend of him wasn´t lucky to go to the U.S.A. and unfortunately he died in an airplane crash. Perhaps if he had studied more English now he woud be here. My uncle Kiko lost his job, but now he is working in the best airliner company “EMIRATES” thanks he knows a lot of English . Another important thing about it, is that English is the most important language in the world, so you will have many possibilities, to speak, and even chat online with a lot of people. Quique so you can observe how important is to study as much English as you can for your interest . Yours faithfully Your friend Angel By Ángel Herrero 1º A

Dear Alfredo, I am Guillermo Junquera. I want to tell you about my experience the last summer in Valencia. I went there to visit all my cousins because they live in this city. It was a wonderful summer, we did a lot of activities together. First, my cousins and I were in the beach playing while my parents were sunbathing. It was very hot, so in the noontime we were to ate in a typical restaurant of Valencia. We ordered a really nice Paella, I have never tried a paella like that, from now it is my favourite. After that, we went to a street market and my parents bought lots of things. I was bored because i don't like go shopping, just if is to buy some games to play. And then it happened my cousins and i saw a billboard of a magic show. We were very excited to go there, so we asked our parents. The next day we were there. We enjoyed really much. It was fantastic. I would like to repeat it sometime. Late in the evening we went to played football in a public camp, except my mother and my aunt who were seeing the match. My cousins and i had to do a very hard-working to won them but finally we did. When we finished, we were tired, so we went to our home to have a shower. I felt very relaxed after that. In the coming days we have been doing sightseeing. We went to the Guilliverd’s parc, the oceanographic, the museum of the falleros of Valencia. It was so interesting. I suggest you to visit Valencia. It is a beautiful city, where you can do many things. I love this city and visit my family in Valencia.

My christmas holiday Last christmas holiday I was in Madrid since 19 of december to 28 of December. On 23 of December my grandparents came to Madrid to spend christmas eve with us, they left my house the 26 of December. Then, on 28 of December, I went to Víllodas the village of my mother in the Basque country. I spent there one week. I spent there the new years eve, I threw Fireworks. The 4 of January I came back to Madrid. The three wise men gave me a computer. I had a great time this christmas holiday By Pablo María 1º A

Holidays I spent my holidays in Galicia. It’s my favourite place in Spain. I prefer Galicia rather than Madrid, because Galicia is colder than Madrid and I love more the cold towns than the hot ones. During this holiday, I went to a spa with my family. The first day I went to the swimming pool and my brother gave me a relaxing massage. The second day we went to Water Palace, because it was raining. The Water Palace is great, because it has waterfalls from the ceiling, water beds and a swimming pool with currents. Also, there was a big icy swimming pool. I saw a lot of swimming pools during my holidays, but the most beautiful was the swimming pool with currents, where I floated and it was not necessary to swim. The third day we went to the beach. We took a dip in the sea. Before this we made sandcastles and after we had an ice cream. The fourth day we made a Celtic tour. This tour is a relaxing route with hot outdoor swimming pools. The last two days we rested in the hotel. These were my best holidays of my life. By Paula Trigo 1º C

My Easter holiday this Easter holiday I have gone to New York, I have visited a lot of interesting places like the statue of liberty, the Empire State or central park. Minecraft

What is better than play a football match at the Xbox or PlayStation with the FIFA? Today I will say the 5 best videogames of the Xbox One that are: - The FIFA 15 is my first election because it simulates the best sport (for no doubt is the football). - My second selection are the Call of Duty Advance Warfare and the Battlefield 4 that are game that simulates a war and you are a soldier killing to the “bads“. - The third better videogame of the Xbox One is the Dead Rising 3. At this game you control a man that is at an apocalypse zombie. - My fourth election is the Assassins creed Unity because at this game you are an assassins at the French Revolution. - My last election is an historic game named Ryse, son of Roma. In this game the roman soldier that you control is at the barbarian invasion. By Pablo Soltero 1º D

How to do a house in the Minecraft 1-Create a simple 1-block-tall outline using cobblestone blocks. Add a slight outcrop at the front for an entrance and a slight dip at the back for a rear porch 2-Build up the first-floor walls, bearing in mind how high you’d like your ceiling to be. I recommend at least 1 or 2 blocks of space above your head so it doesn’t feel too cramped. Fill in your first floor using wood planks. 3-Build up the second-floor walls in wood planks to complement the cobblestone. It’s often easier to fill in the entire wall, then knock any excess widows. Add in your second floor using wood planks followed by a handy wooden staircase. 4-Use glass blocks to create windows and wood blocks to define the edges of your house. Add 2 sets of wooden double doors to the entrance and torches to light it all up night. Finally, lay out your rooms and decorate your house. 5-Extend the front of the house upward in a triangle shape using pod planks. Then use wood stair to ceate the edge of the triangle shape of the roof. 6-Fill in your roof so that it covers the entire entrance section. Overhanging eaves will really make your house stand out, so extend the roof 1 block forward, too 7-Continue to add wood stair blocks in rows until you’ve created a roof for the rest of the house. 8-Once your house is completely covered, remember to add a 1-block overhang to each section of the roof. 9-FINISHING TOUCHES: Try adding balconies, windows on the roof and a chimney. You can also add a garden.

MY FAVOURITE VIDEOGAME I like the Minecraft, because it’s a very popular game. The design is retro and the world is square, you are a person who are in an island, you can choose the mode survival or creative I prefer creative, because you have all things: tools, rocks, plants,… In survival what you have to do it’s survive in the island, creating the things to survive in an island full of monsters like: endermans, skeletons…and the famous creepers who has converted in a famous icon. This is the face of the creepers. By ANGEL SUBTIL 1º B

How to do a garden in the Minecraft 1-Mark the edges of your garden by placing wood blocks in the ground. choose a spot for your swimming pool, then dig an area 1 block deep and use stone blocks to mark out edges. 2-Now place leaves on top of your wood (they won’t decay if they’re placed on wood). Dig your pool to the desired depth and use smooth sandstone and glow tone to line the walls. 3-Once the pool walls are finished you can fill it with water. Try adding a few more details to your at this stage, such as a small vegetable patch and some trees. 4-Fix trapdoors onto dirt blocks to create stylish planters for your flowers. Craft decking from wood planks, stair blocks and fences, then place an anvil on top for the barbecue. 5-FINISHING TOUCHES: pounds: dig a hole, then put water inside and, add lily pads fountain: create a structure and put water on the top, and it will flow. 12 My residence in England This summer I stayed at my aunt’s house for three weeks in Essex (England). I went to two different camps with my cousins. The first one was called “Mad Science” and was about crazy experiments. On first day on Mad Science we talked about “flying” and we made some amazing rockets that later we flew. The two next days we learn how to make our own robot and I had a really good time. The worst thing about Mad Science was that I was the oldest and I didn’t like that. The second camp I went to was called barracudas and I’ll admit that I like that one much more. We were about 200 children from three to sixteen years old. I was in the group of the oldest. Everyday we played sports such as archery, dodge ball, soccer, etc. I also tried motor mania! Also, every week we prepared a talent show where every group had to do a choreography, a song… I enjoyed a lot both camps and I’m looking forward to return next year! By Cayetana Salinas 1º B

My experience at the UK When I first got there I met lots of people, and one of them was my guide his name was Tom and he helped me if didn´t know what to do or where to go in each lesson. My first night was horrible I was crying all the night, because I was homesick, I didn´t sleep anything, so the day after I was so tired, one or two weeks later they gave me and the rest of new people their phones, so we could call our parents, after two month, I don´t how but me and my sister skyped our parents. The daily routine was the same always, okay it wasn´t always the same each term, there were three terms (autumn, lent and summer) in each term you had a new sport rugby, football or cricket and it changed your timetable. But the worst part is when you say good bye to your friends and teachers, you won´t see them again except in my case, because I am going to go back another hole year, it is going to be so fun! PGL UK:

PGL is an English adventure organization. It means Peter Gordon Lawrence, the owner. There are more than 5 PGL centers in the UK , I´ve been in two of them , Caythorpe Court and Marchants Hill . There you can do amazing activities like climbing , orienteering … but there´s always a professional instructor with you for you safety showing you how to put your harnest on, how to climb … My favourite activities there were : -The trapeze, were you have to climb a really tall tower and when you´re on the top jump to a triangle . I think that´s is the scariest sensation I´ve ever feel, when you are 12 meters above the ground and you need to jump! -The typical zip wire , one of the funniest PGL activities . - One new activity I´ve never heard about in other places, and one of my absolutely favourites, was the power fan . We climbed a thin tower and then we jumped from the top part of that tower . We had just a thin wire held to our harneses so that when we jump we fell to fast to the floor and when we were near it the wire stopped us so that we didn´t hurt. But in PGL there are lots of foreing guys , mostly in Summer , so there are also English teachers and classes were you can learn English grammar by doing entertaining exercises. This summer I went there whit 30 Spanish guys more for a month and I have to say that it was the Summer of my life. There I met people from Italy, Taiwan, France, Poland, England, Russia… and I stay in touch with them! Obiously I learnt English and I had a lotof fun . So I really recommend for people from 11 to 17 years old to go with Forenex and PGL to England in Summer! By Lucía Márquez 1º D

My stay in London Hello SJP!!! In this small article that I have written I want to tell you my stay in England three months ago, in London. The city is very nice, with wide streets with ancient fronts, it fills of restaurants and bars in the low apartments. My favorite street was Picadilly Circus, one of the most f a m o u s London streets, with a source in the center of the square and several very big electronic screens. Also I liked Oxford Street, with a heap of enormous shops in two sidewalks. My favorite monument was the London Tower Bridge because the conference of the Rio Thames are very nice. There is a part next to the London Tower Bridge that has several skyscrapers with different forms and very modern. The stay in my house was very good, I was very comfortable in the apartment in which we were. We remain in an apartment because the hotels of London are very expensive and the very small rooms. One of my favorite things of London was to see the musical of The Lion King, it was spectacular!!! These were my days in London, so I hope that you should like this article. My last summer camp I went in July to Logroño to a fantastic camp. I studied English in the morning. We have a break in the morning. It was very hot. I drank some water because I was very thirsty. Before we had lunch we have workshops. In the afternoon we had different competitions. Swimming, basketball, baseball, football and volleyball. After dinner we chatted with our friends. I loved that camp because I have a lot of friends now. I recommend you to go because You can enjoy a lot and meet new friends and improve your English. By María Casado 1º B

MY EXPERIENCE IN ENGLAND 4th September – 12th December 2013

I went to a school near Salisbury, England, for a term when I was eleven years old. It was the Forest Sandle Manor, recommended by a friend of my mother’s. When my dad left me at the school, I cried a lot because I didn´t have any friends, it was strange for me to talk in English all the time and I also missed my family. The lessons started at nine o’clock and finished at three thirty in the afternoon. After that, we had to play football or rugby. Then, we had a snack, and after that we did forty minutes of homework. After this time we had dinner. The food was really good. After dinner we sometimes had a shower. At eight o’clock we had to read a book or talk for thirty minutes, and at eight thirty we went to sleep. I used to sleep very well. Normally we woke up at seven fifteen in the morning. We washed up and had breakfast before going down to the classroom. The lessons were more interactive than in Spain because we worked a lot with computers. There were eleven children in each class, boys and girls, and I was the only foreigner. I had one teacher for each subject, they were mostly nice and some of them slept at the school. On Saturdays we played football or rugby matches against other schools but we always lost. At night, we watched a film together with a bunch of other students in a big living room and we had a special dinner. Every Sunday we went on an excursion, once to the theme park, another to the countryside, where we played hide and seek and a third one to a nice little town where we did some souvenir shopping. Three of those weekends I spent at some of my friend’s houses. I phoned my family once a day before dinner. I had a very good friend called James. We played together football in the breaks. Last summer he came to my house in Spain for a week and we had a lot of fun. We also visited Madrid and we gave him a Real Madrid t-shirt as a gift. I am going to go back to England in second of ESO to the same school and also for the first term. I learned a lot in England and I hope I will learn more next year. I really recommend anyone to enjoy this experience if they have the opportunity. You get to know another country and its culture, while making new friends and improving your English. It was a cold night and my parents were gone to a Halloween party at a friend’s house. I was at home with some friends that I had invited. We were watching a film when we heard a noise from the street. A girl was screaming wildly and we went outside to check. There was this little kid on the floor. He was pale and with his eyes wide open. He was petrified, literally. We didn’t know what to do so we brought the girl inside the house and, because there was no one in the street, we left the body behind some rubbish cans. We gave her a cup of tea while she told us what happened. ”She was having a walk with her little brother when something cold touched her arm. She turned over for a few seconds, and when she turned back she found he little brother lying on the floor, petrified. She started screaming but no one came, she screamed even harder and that’s when we came running”. She also told us she was called Jenna. When she finished we called the police and went outside to see the body, but when we got there the body was gone. No one could have taken it because no one wanted a dead body, so it must have been the person who did it. When the police came we told them what had happened but they didn’t believe it, they thought it was a joke so they told us never to do it again and went. We decided we couldn´t leave Jenna to face that situation alone so we helped her. First we had to know where that creature could live, and we all deduced that something that could petrify could only live in the wood that was next to our little town. So we head up to the woods with a torch each, and fear running through or bodies. We arrived to a clear in the middle of the woods, the wind of the night was slapping our faces and the cold and terror invaded our body. There were background noises of animals but there was a noise that stuck out from the others and wasn´t normal. Suddenly the bushes start to move and we all stand back, a massive hand appeared from inside and a horrible creature started running towards us, Erica standed still, I told her to move but she wouldn´t then is when I realize she had turned into stone. It was hard to leave her but I had to run and save my life, there was no way I could safe hers. I didn’t know in which direction I was running. It was hard to see in the darkness of the night. I fell down, my arm was bleeding, but I had to keep running for my life. That’s when I realized the monster wasn’t following me anymore. I found Jenna; she was hiding under a tree. After one hour we found our way to the village. The police where at the entrance on the village. I had to tell them all about Erica, which wasn’t very easy. After that I never heard about that monster any more or Erica, or Jenna´s little brother. The end By Victoria Rubio 1º D

IRISH HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS The Celts celebrated Halloween as Samhain, ‘All Hallowtide’ - the ‘Feast of the Dead’, when the dead revisited the mortal world. The celebration marked the end of Summer and the start of the Winter months. During the eighth century the Catholic Church designated the first day of November as ‘All Saints Day’ (‘All Hallows’) - a day of commemoration for those Saints that did not have a specific day of remembrance. The night before was known as ‘All Hallows Eve’ which, over time, became known as Halloween. Here are the most notable Irish Halloween Traditions:

Colcannon for Dinner:

Boiled Potato, Curly Kale (a cabbage) and raw Onions are provided as the traditional Irish Halloween dinner. Clean coins are wrapped in baking paper and placed in the potato for children to find and keep.

The Barnbrack Cake:

The traditional Halloween cake in Ireland is the barnbrack which is a fruit bread. Each member of the family gets a slice. Great interest is taken in the outcome as there is a piece of rag, a coin and a ring in each cake. If you get the rag then your financial future is doubtful. If you get the coin then you can look forward to a prosperous year. Getting the ring is a sure sign of impending romance or continued happiness.

The Ivy Leaf:

Each member of the family places a perfect ivy leaf into a cup of water and it is then left undisturbed overnight. If, in the morning, a leaf is still perfect and has not developed any spots then the person who placed the leaf in the cup can be sure of 12 months health until the following Halloween. If not.....

The Pumpkin:

Carving Pumpkins dates back to the eighteenth century and to an Irish blacksmith named Jack who colluded with the Devil and was denied entry to Heaven. He was condemned to wander the earth but asked the Devil for some light. He was given a burning coal ember which he placed inside a turnip that he had gouged out. Thus, the tradition of Jack O’Lanterns was born - the bearer being the wandering blacksmith - a damned soul. Villagers in Ireland hoped that the lantern in their window would keep the wanderer away. When the Irish emigrated in their millions to America there was not a great supply of turnips so pumpkins were used instead.

Halloween Costumes:

On Halloween night children would dress up in scary costumes and go house to house. ‘Help the Halloween Party’ and ‘Trick or Treat’ were the cries to be heard at each door. This tradition of wearing costumes also dates back to Celtic times. On the special night when the living and the dead were at their closest the Celtic Druids would dress up in elaborate costumes to disguise themselves as spirits and devils in case they encountered other devils and spirits during the night. By disguising they hoped that they would be able to avoid being carried away at the end of the night. This explains why witches, goblins and ghosts remain the most popular choices for the costumes. The origin of rabies It was once a Spanish Beagle called Tobi who loved to play with his two friends, Niebla and Canel. Tobi was three months old when he met them in a park and since that day they have been inseparable. The three dogs used to meet at least once a week in the park where they met because they brought good memories, but one week Tobi couldn`t go to the park because he went on traveling to France, but as he didn`t said anything to Niebla or Canel they both thought that something important was happening and they went to his home to visit him but he was not there. Niebla and Canel, very worried, decided to call the canine police to alert about the disappearance of Tobi and very soon the streets were full of mini patrol canine cars. When Tobi returned the following week, he saw that the hole city was on fire, the houses in ruins and broken roads .It looked like the end of the world! Tobi, scared , wanted to ask the canine police what was happening but this, when it saw him, barked and ran scared. What had happened is that how they did not find Tobi the streets began to break down the houses to see if he had kidnapped, they saw that they had not kidnapped ,so they thought that maybe he had buried in the ground then they started bombing the streets and as they did not find him all the dogs began crazy and they create the disease of rabies. Champion’s League Semi-Finals Real Madrid will play against Turin’s Juventus for a place in Champion’s league final which will take place in Berlin. Real Madrid lost in Turin 2-1 in the away game where Juventus played their “A-game” against Real Madrid who didn’t start the game very motivated from the first minute. Juventus pulled ahead very early with a goal from Real Madrid’s old player Álvaro Morata. However, Real Madrid tied the match with a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo. Madrid didn’t know how to bring the match forward even though they had a very clear opportunity where James headed a ball that shook the goal post. In the second half, Juventus pressued Madrid heavily but with a shot from Juventus’ Marcelo, they were able to take advantage of a counterattack in which Carlos Tévez and Daniel Carvajal where directly in the Madrid’s area. This caused Carvajal to get fined with a penalty which Tévez was able to make into another goal for Juventus. After the goal neither of the teams played a very good second half which resulted in a favourable outcome for the Italian team. However, the match which will be played in Santiago Bernabéu where Real Madrid will have the support from the public to help them get pumped up is still remaining to decide Real Madrid’s fate. Madrid will have to start very motivated from the first minute to be able to acquire a good result that will allow them to enter into the Champions League finals. On the other end of the spectrum there’s Barcelona which is playing for a place in the Champion’s League finals. Going against Munich’s Bayern the first game took place in Camp Nou where Barcelona won with a 3-0 which allows them to start with a foot firmly planted. Barça started very well by putting Bayern’s keeper to the test. With one shot from Luis Suarez which Neuer stopped. There was also another very clear opportunity where Dani Alves failed against the German Keeper. Bayern had a very clear opportunity when their Forward Lewandoski wasn’t placed well. The second half had about 30 minutes where neither team showed any type of superiority. Later, in less than three minutes, two goals from Messi were made and in the very last few minutes another goal was made by Neymar which almost leaves almost guarantees Bayern’s elimination. The winning teams will fight at the final and the winner will be the Champion of Europe. By Alejandro García 1º D

THE CHARGE Inspector Connor was surfing when Mr. McHoustle shouted for help. When Connor was next to him, McHoustle told him that he found a dead body. So they took it to the laboratory. They discovered that she was Anne Marocco, the captain of the Canadian military army, who was supposed to be on an aircraft carrier, so they took a helicopter and went to the aircraft carrier, and started looking for blood splatters, but McHoustle stumbled and pushed a secret door that went to a room, with an open door to the sea. Connor had a terrific suspicion. When they went to the deck, they saw that one life boat, and the man who controlled it, were missing. They started to look for that man, named Bruce Stome, and they found him in his house sleeping, so they took him to the police department and started interrogating him. He said that Anne, Richard Parker and him, took a life boat and went to the city, but the waves were too strong and he fell off of the boat. When he came back on, Anne had disappeared, and then he thought that he had seen a little blood stain on the life boat, but when they came to the beach, Richard had run away. When he finished, McHoustle investigated and found out that Richard was a retired soldier, and Anne occupied his charge. They started looking for him in the Empire State building. They took him to the police department, and he confessed what he had done: he murdered Anne and pushed her off the boat. Then, he was arrested. By Jaime Martínez 1º D

30 ROME Last summer I went to Rome. It´s a beautiful city, my favourite in the world! We travelled by plain; from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport to Roma-Fiumicino airport. The trip was very funny because we travelled in the plane with a scouts group. They were all the time singing. We were in a hotel in the downtown, near of the Piazza Della Repubblica. We visited this places: 1.We visited a little country inside Rome, called Vaticano (there live the Papa Francisco). It was my favourite monument and places we visited in Rome.

2.The Castle S.Angelo: Is a Roman monument located on the right bank of the Tiber River.

3.Fontana di Trevi: It is the most famous Baroque monumental source in Rome. A tradition says that if you throw a coin, you will return to Rome. I throw a lot of them!

Course 2014-2015

4.Roman Forum: Central area around which the ancient city was developed and in which took place of business , religion and the administration of justice.

5.The Colosseum: Is an amphitheatre of the Roman Empire, built in the first century and located in the city centre of Rome. This monument is very beautiful and excited at the night because all The Coliseum was illuminated with lights. 6. Piazza di Spagna: It has a lot of stairs full of flowers in both sides. It´s very beautiful! We climbed all of them. We eat a lot of pasta, pizza and ice cream, all of them were very delicious. The people was very nice and I understood Italian a little. Were 4 fantastic days and I would like to return again. By Paula Alonso 1º D

31 UGANDA

UGANDA 2 years ago I went to Uganda to visit my aunty and my uncle. The trip there was uncomfortable because it took us 17 hours to get there and anybody sleeps soundly in a plane! Uganda is a small country in África, it´s capital is Kampala. There is so hot because it´s in the Ecuador. It is a colorful country with a lot of diferent types of birds. People is poor but they always smile some how. I went to a safari too. It was near Marchinson falls. There I saw hienas, hipos, waterbacks, lions, tigers, giraffes… The most amazing thing and the one that makes the diference between a safari and the zoo is that you can see animals in their own habitat and you can stay very close to them because there aren´t any fences. It was the most exciting trip I´ve ever done. By Lucía Márquez 1º D

THE CLÁSICO: A DIFFERENT MATCH

MY FAVOURITE FOOTBALL TEAM ATLÉTICO DE MADRID. Atlético de Madrid is a Spanish football club. They became a football club in 1903. Nowadays is one of the bests clubs in the world. Our stadium is the Vicente Calderón, where 54907 people can be there in a match. His president is Enrique Cerezo. Last year we won the Spanish league and we were the second one in the Champions League. We have won: v 10 leagues,10 cups v 1 Supercup

It was the last greatest match in the world, Real Madrid against Barcelona celebrated in Madrid. Last Saturday everyone was looking at it, expecting to enjoy with the best players. Of course I support Real. It was very exciting match because Barcelona started winning 1-0 at third minute. Too early. But after that, Real began to attack with all players specially Cristiano, Benzema a great Isco, my favorite. At the end of the first half, Real scored a goal. Uff. It was penalty of a Barcelona´s defender and scored by Ronaldo, the pichichi of the Liga. The second half was dominated by Real Madrid from the begining to the end, scoring two goals more: Pepe a defender with his head after a corner shot, and Benzema after a perfect play with Isco and James, the two midfields attackers. At the end, 3-1 won Real Madrid, my team for ever. We felt very happy and celebrated with my family. We went to a restaurant until 24.00 h. HALA MADRID! By Álvaro Fernández 2º A

v 2 European leagues v 2 European Supercups v 1 International cup We also have very good players like Koke or Arda. Every year we get new players and we improve them so much and now they are excellent players, like Falcao or Diego Costa. Atleti´s fans know how to lose and know how to celebrate when we win. In my opinion, Atlético IS THE BEST CLUB EVER. By Álvaro Mitsuf 2º B

love sports I LOVE SPORTS The sport that I like most is football. I play in San José del Parque team, our kit is white t-shirt and green shorts. We train every Monday and Friday afternoon and we play football matches every Saturday morning. I also really enjoy going to the stadium or watching the TV others to play. My favorite team is Real Madrid.

MY FAVOURITE SPORT: One of my favourite sports is basketball. I play it in my school team, we are very good but we don´t win every match. We have to improve a little bit because we only train 2 days a week because we are a school team and basketball clubs train almost every day but we usually win to the others schools. I love swimming too, I always go to the competitions I can. I think I’m a good swimmer and I try to swim every week but with the exams it´s impossible. I used to watch a lot of videos of Michael Phelps swimming to improve swimming . I also like football to but I don´t practise it in a team, I like to watch every match I can in the TV. So in summary I like a lot of sports and I don´t have a sport that I prefer it´s the best. By Álvaro Mifsut 2º B

Other sport that I love it’s basketball. I started playing last year in the schoolyard and although I am not very tall, I do well scoring baskets. I like Pau Gasol. Last Summer I took a tennis course. It’s a sport played by two or four people and it is mostly played outdoors. I love it though I do not practice often. For my birthday my friends gave me a beautiful tennis racket. In the school I practice also swimming, It is an individual sport and it’s a little boring. I like swimming in Summer more than in Winter. In Summer I also play paddle tennis and beach volley. Sport is good for our health and protects us from some diseases. It helps us find friends, to be honest, to respect the rules, to be solidary, to achieve goals and to promote the development of the people. I need and enjoy doing sport… By Jaime Merino 2º B

MY LAST HOLIDAYS

My last holidays were my longest holidays and I think I have learnt how to spend the time. I enjoyed with my parents and my brother, Pablo, and visited new and wonderful places and met people. The first place visited was Lisboa, the capital of Portugal, smaller than Madrid but very nice, interesting and old city. We spent two days there. We woke up early in the morning at 7.30 h, had breakfast at 8.30 h and after that start to walk for the whole day. When we went back to the in the evening, we just wanted to lie down and sleep because we were very tired. Next, we went to Sintra and Cascais and I have to say that Sintra was the most beautiful place of all: Nice mountains with lovely country houses. Finally, we went to the south, called Algarve. There we went to San Vicente´s Cape where there are incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean. After those days we came back to Madrid to start the school. By Álvaro Fernández 2º A

This summer I went to USA in late June with my parents and my brother Julian. We visited New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Niagara Falls and Toronto. Where I passed me better was in Toronto, I love that city in fourth I have decided that I will study the whole School year. It is so quiet and in winter it’s too cold outside but I hace to live experiences. The previous summer in Toronto WE went only to spend the day because we were hosting us in Niagara to see the waterfalls that were very nice and they let me impressed. We saw Blue Jays ,the State team of Toronto baseball game, and took a ride around the city. Also we went to New York that was where we spent more time because it is so big and we need several days to explore it all. Also I liked very much but not so much as Toronto. In New York, we saw the typical, the statue of liberty, the empire state,we crossed the brooklyn bridge, and We saw one Broadway play ,I think it was Cinderella, but I do not remember well. We went to Washington about 4 days, I was quite surprised because no offense it was full of black people . It was very nice and quiet to be the capital. The White House was beautiful and we visited the Capitol but I got bored a lot. Already is that the normal is that I would have liked the most the White House but it was not, i like most the wax museum. I got a selfie with Justin Bieber. Taking advantage of that we were in Washington went one day to Philadelphia as in Toronto because my father wanted and what i found most interesting was the McDonalds but we had to return soon to the train station because there was a shootout in the street. THIS WAS MY U.S.A. TRIP. By Pilar Salcedo 2º B

MY SUMMER It was a great summer, the best summer of my life. When I finished school my parents, my brother and me went to the beach in Almería. We stayed there for a week. There, we swam in the sea, had lunch in some restaurants, relaxed in our terrace... Then on the 25 June I went with my best friend to Washington. The plane trip was very long, but when we arrived there, we were excited. We stayed in a friend house for two months. There, we went sightseeing around Washington, swam in a public swimming pool near my friend´s house, went shopping in the malls... two months later, my and my best friend´s family came with us and we did a trip around the west of the USA in two vans. First, we went to Philadelphia and we saw the Amish´ houses, farms, transports... then we went to new York, it was amazing, The Central Park, The Six Avenue, The Liberty Statue, The Empire State... After New York we went to Boston, then to Niagara and finally we went to Hersey’s park. From there we came back to Madrid. By Ana Torrente 2º D

MY NEXT SUMMER I have already a great plan for the next summer because I will go on July to the north of Ireland. I am going to live in typical Irish family with a big house in the country. They are five, three boys and threir parents. I know that they play rugby, not football, a sport very popular there. I will try to learn it but I am afraid to break a leg or an arm playing. The fields are natural grass, not artificial like here in Spain because it is rainning all the day. I hope to enjoy learning English and having fun with my Irish family. That´s all folks!! days MY EASTER HOLIDAYS

Last Easter holidays , my family and me went to Formigal in Huesca, to have a nice week practising our favourite sport: sky. We stayed at our friends´s home for a week. They have got a fantastic house with views over mountains. Everyday we woke up very early at seven o´clock and we had big breakfast with a lot of vitamines and proteines because we were going to have a long day skying for five hours. After preparing our clothes and materials we started a special day. At nine o´clok I skied with my family and friends. Then I had a group class for three hours with my teacher Carmen and when I had finished the class I skied another hour with my family and friends. Later, we went home to have a shower . When we had finished the shower we ate in the american kitchen. After my friends, my brother and I watched a movie. In the afternoon we usually went to a village called Sallent de Gállego for shopping and walking. At night we had dinner and we watch tv an hour and then go to sleep because we were so tired. The experience of skiing is fantastic. I think it is a great sport. You feel free. I am waiting for next year when we will come back.

An unusual Easter break There is a time in the year when Easter means relaxing and having fun. This year my parents decided to spend some days in our farm. I love to go there because I love nature. I can play with my dogs and cats. I go with my friends for long walks. This is only a part of my holiday because my dad decided to plan a fantastic tour around the south of Spain. The first place we are going to visit is Sevilla where we have some relatives. Sevilla celebrates Easter in a catholic way. People sing Saetas and pray. It is really beautiful. There are groups of men called pallbearers who carry the casket into and out of church. Sometimes these caskets are very heavy and pallbearers walk long distances carrying them on their shoulders. After Sevilla we are going to visit Granada. My mom wants to visit the Alhambra a well-known monument in the world. I hope to spend with my family a lovely Easter. By Andrea C. de Agustin 2º C

The next week is the holy week, like every year many people go out on holidays to their village or to a new place to visit. This week is like another holidays, like christmas, and it´s good to stop thinking in the school and have fun with friends and family. This year my classmates and i have to study because we have exams on the return of the holidays. This year i will go to Galicia with my family and some cousins, because we have a house and we like so much to be there and the food of this part of the country is great. We like to see the landscape, we visit many thing every day and although we have seen. We visit different beaches, not for swin obviusly. I think this holidays will be good and i can stop thinking in the school, teachers…

The next week are the school holidays, like every year, the school bring little attractions, raffle and a bar. For some people, this two days are the best days of school. When i was on primary, the second day of holidays we have to bring a red neckerchief because it was a confinement of bulls, not real bull obviusly, but when i have 5 years more or less i didn´t like the bulls because i thinked that they was real bulls. This year every classes of secondary have to make a type of “parody” of a song and the class who wins will go to a theme park in a school day. I am wishing to act in the festival

A BAD CHANGE IN CHRISTMAS A Little homelessness boy, called Taris, was in the street trying to sell some packets of pencils colours three days before Christmas, but nobody pay him attention. <<No one will buy me nothing, although I sold very cheap an expensive silk dress>> he though When the sky got dark, he decided to lie on his dirty blanket. While he was trying to sleep, Taris started to cry because he don´t like his life; he and his family have to sleep on the floor of the street, they don´t usually have breakfast, lunch, diner… like a normal person and his parents never have enough money to buy him a present for Christmas. As he was thinking that and throwing rocks to the floor, a boy with the same age as Taris stopped in front of him and asked: - Why are you crying?

They met on the road. - You were right, your life is worse than mine – said Taris – now, your brother is chasing me, good luck - No! You! Anyway, I prefer my life than yours, sorry, good luck you too with the sales! - Ok, thank you! See you another day, now run! – recommended Taris -

Taris did an effort and stopped crying. - My life is awful, the worst life in the world- told Taris to the boy - I don´t think so. I bet my life is worse than your life. I have to go to school, my teachers hate me because I am rich and they´re not, my classmates don´t want to speak with me, they never sit next to me in class, in the break they hit me , I live in big mansion but it is very lonely, because I live most of the time along. My parents are famous actors so they don´t have time to spend with me and my brother is studying in Russia, he only come back home in summer, just for a days and in that days he goes to nightclubs to flirt with girls, drink alcoholic drinks and then he goes to hotels to sleep with that girls, not with me. I think that we spend like three minutes together each year and those minutes he is very rude with me, so my life is more awful than your life.

The revenge

THE STORY OF MY ONLY PET

Inspector Mczano was surprised. His friend, captain House appeared dead in his apartment with a bullet in his head! He was reading a book in his favorite armchair and someone between 12.00 pm and 1.00 am shot him. When the Inspector Mczano went to the crime scene, the homicides scientist told him that the murderer fired from the attic of the flat located in front of him. In the attic, they found the case of the bullet that killed Captain House. It was a special bullet that only could have been made in a specialist weapons shop. He looked for it in the web and found that there was only one store in the city capable to make this type of bullets. When the Inspector Mczano went to the shop, he discovered that there were video cameras and instead of asking the salesman, he started to check the cameras records. He spent a lot of time checking every frame. After a while, he started to think that it was pointless when suddenly a strange man with a hood entered into the shop. Mczano saw, through his camera zoom, that the hooded man bought that same type of bullet. The Inspector started to observe his face and identified him. He was Victor Russef! He was a murderer that Captain House put into prison! Victor´s sentence finished two weeks ago and in those two weeks he found House and killed him. Inspector Mczano sent a patrol to Victor´s house to arrest him. The case was solved.

My only pet were two little silk worms. They were a present of my best friend. At first I was very excited because they were the first pet that I have, I thank her for two days. I took them home and I look after them like a mother with her child or baby. I gave them plants to eat and I look them going slowly from a part of the box, where they live, to another part of it. After two days my dad told me that if I put the box in the sun, the little silk worms will grows faster. I heard him and I put the box in the sun. The next day I lifted the top of the box and I found out that the worms grew too fast; they have formed a yellow pod in a wall. I was surprised, the pod was very gross, so I left it in a table and I searched in the internet when they´ll become into butterflies. During the next two weeks I completely forgot about the worms, in the third week I remember them and I look for the box and I discovered that the worms became into butterflies, but not a beautiful and colorful butterflies as I expected, they became into little grey and not pretty butterflies, I looked the box with more details and I found that there was a wall more yellow than the others, I touched it, there were lots of small circles, like spots, first I didn´t know what I was, then I thought it better and I knew that they were the worms or butterflies eggs, I suddenly throw them to the bin. “EL REFUGIO” El Refugio is an association which helps lost dogs. I discovered it because of Mireya. She told me that there was a place where you can walk lost and injured dogs that had been mistreated. I didn´t know where it was, but my sister told me. She went there when she was young. The first impression is a little bit sad. You only see some sad dogs that become happy when you arrive because they just want an owner. But, later on, you can walk and wash them. It´s very comfortable. Sometimes, you can help the owners naming them. I named one. It was a female. I didn´t know any name so I just look to a car called ASTRA and I told them. They loved it. I´m writing this notice because they told me to tell everyone that, dogs need help. Sometimes, you can see some people asking signs and you can help them too. Or maybe when you want to buy a dog, think twice. Because dogs in pet shops may cost around 500€ there, they cost 50€ with vacuums. And you give them another chance. Some people say: I want an expensive dog, for example, a Pastor Alemán. But they don´t know that in “El Refugio” there are expensive dogs too. And maybe an expensive dog won´t give you more love or protection than a normal one. WHERE IT IS? It´s in a mountain. But it´s not difficult to find. You just go to El Espinar and ask for it. You´ll see. Its crossing a road and turn left in the first fountain. Thanks for reading it. Hope you can goJ By Gema Álvarez 2º B

nions WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK In FORGEIN COUNTRIES? It’s known that it English is the most important language in the world. At the moment all the people have to study English, if they want to have a good job in the future. In spite of living in different countries, all the inhabitants need to study hard to have the opportunity to choose the job that they want. Given that English is a very important language in all the world and you have to study it. On once hand you could study in your country and on the other hand you you might study abroad. However there are some benefits and drawbacks. Without a snadow of doubt it is easier in your country maybe in a particular academy of in your school. Whereas if you study outside it’s more beneficial because you can use it your day to day. Other advantage to learn Enghish in other country, like England, is that you could meet new people.

My hobbies:

The things I love doing are playing football, sking, hanging out with friends and playing videogames. I hang out with friends many times, and it isn´t boring, it´s fantastic. Other thing I love is practicing sports. The ones that I prefer are football and sking. Ski is the best winter sport I ever done it´s fantastic, you can ski between trees or in the place you want. You can ski in the biggest ski resort you can imagine. Football is other of my favourite sports. I love it because it´s a team sport and you can do many things whith the ball. Other thing I like is playing videogames but I prefer to hang out with friends By Guillermo de Miguel 2º A

THE LION

Bees are four-winged insects that feed on the flowers they have longer hind legs and the body covered with hairs and generally have a stinger.

Popularly known as the Jungle King, protagonist of stories and movies, the lion belongs big group of the carnivorous mammals and it is a predator.

RESIDENTS CONCERNED ABOUT CRIME To whom it may concern, I am a resident of Rivertown and I read your article about the crime rate .In fact, incidents of burglary and car theft have been rising. These crimes are being researched by the police. Given that the number os thefts is growing, the police have to be more attentive. They must work full-time and they shoud be hard-working. Without a shadow of doubt the police aren´t working very well because there are more and more incidents. In spite of having police, citizens ought to help.If a citydweller finds clues, they should tell the police to solve the problem. Residents have to protect their homes and possesions and they must comply with conexistence rules. So to sum up,I believe that the best way to reduces crimes for all the people to cooperate. However, the police have to continues their job. By Yolanda Gaudó 2º B

ANSWER A EMAIL…

Dear editor, I am writing this letter I’m response to John’s article “ if you recycle you save a little the earth” which appeared In your magazine yesterday. Personally I,m agree with him, on many of the things but he can explain:

FROM: Buffy Summers. TO: Sander James. SENT: 10th June SUBJET: Design a blog. ---------------------------------------------Hi, Sander! I’m fine thank you. And you?

Firstly, why if you recycle you save the planet? I don’t understand the phrase, because some people don’t recycle and the planet doesn’t change and they spent less time doing it because they put all the rubbish in the same bag and they throw in to the first dustbin that they see.

Now I’ve been reading a very interesting book called “How to design a blog” and I recommend it yo you because it has many ideas about different kind about blogs. But I think that clothes and apps are great ideas to write in the blog.

Next, other people says that the rubbish and the factories make a lot of air pollution but the article don’t make any reference of these and is an important topic to write because these and the vehicles makes a big hole in the ozone layer and this is a very big disaster because later this make the temperature of the planet come up and the poles melt in a few time.

If you want to design a cool blog I recommend you create it with Blogger, and if you want to talk about teenagers you have to make it interesting and nice. But you can also come to my house on Thursday at five o’clock in the afternoon to start the project. And if you want to buy a good printer you can go to Epson’s store, there are high quality printers. Answer me soon and I hope to see you on Thursday: Buffy Summers By María del Mar Jarillo 2º C

Finally, and if you can put any reference in your web page or a forum to talk about those topics because are some people who wants to have got a little information of these topics because they’re doing extensions works for class or they want to do an expositions in other classes. Cities September of last year , I went for an amazing week holidays to New York City; and I want to tell you my experience about this incredible journey to the Big Apple. The flight was 8 hours and my family and I arrived there at six in the afternoon. We started unpacking everything and went for a walk around the 6th Avenue and had dinner in an Italian restaurant. We were very tired, because in Spain at the moment we went to bed it was 2 o’clock in the morning. The next day we went to 5th Avenue and bought many clothes and other things and that is one of the reasons I liked the city so much, the shops are gigantic and have a lot of variety, and the games and shoes, mostly everything is much more cheep than any product that you can find here. Later that day we went to my favorite place in NYC, Times Square and had dinner in the biggest Hard Rock Café in the world. The rest of the week we went shopping and we also did a lot of tourism; we saw the MOMA museum, the Empire State, we went to Central Park and we went on a boat trip to Staten Island. The only thing I can complain is that some of the people there were a bit weird. By Pablo Martí 2º C

“INTERNET IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED” Fifty years ago, Internet did not exist and people lived perfectly without it. Currently, almost everybody has access to it from different gadgets such as the cellphone. Is this a good or a bad thing? Internet can be useful in a number of ways. Firstly it offers more possibilities to communicate. This can be very good to chat with people from other countries, for instance. Furthermore, by using Internet you have a much faster access to information, which could be very useful to make an essay. Finally, it gives you the possibility to spend your free time online, for example playing games or watching films. However, Internet has a lot of disadvantages too. Lately, a lot of new crimes have appeared. For example, cyber bullying, which is very common between teenager and young kids. There are also people cheating in essays by copying them from specialized websites, where for a small quantity of money, or even free, you can get your homework done. Another problem that has appeared recently is people getting addicted to cellphones or not socializing because of they are too busy online. To sum up, Internet is good for things like searching for information or being able to communicate with other people, but bad when it leads to crimes, cheating or damaging your mental health. In my opinion, Internet could be considered the best thing that has ever happen as long as we learn to make a reasonable use of it. By Blanca Torroja 3º C

INTERNET IS THE BEST INVENTION EVER Internet was invented fifty years ago approximately and lots of people have said that it is the most useful and important invention in history. Nowadays millions of people use it. Has the Internet got any relevant problem? Internet is definitely useful. Firstly, it has improved all communications, starting with world´s business and finishing with social networks. In addition, everybody has an access to the news with the newspapers and magazines. Finally, you can also go shopping in the net using the new eshops! In contrast, it is true that it has got some problems. I can sum up all the disadvantages with the word dependece, children are started to get addicted and having a change in their habits and routines, they prefer being in a social network than reading or playing sports. Furthermore, adults sort out their problems with it instead of doing themselves In conclusion, Internet has improved our world and has made a revolution in it. In my view, all the awesome advantages hide the problems, so we have to be aware if of them. By Eduardo Pérez 3º C

ernet Internet, tool or danger? Fifty-four years ago, an engineer called Leonard Kleinrock created a new international network: Internet. Nowadays, everyone lives connected to Internet and uses it daily. But is it really a good thing? Or is Internet a worse invention of what we believe? Internet is considered the best invention ever because of a number of reasons. Firstly, allows us to communicate quickly from almost everywhere. For instance, I can talk to my friends wherever I want through Internet. Furthermore, with the streaming technology, you can keep your files wherever you go, so you can work on them in every moment. However, Internet is not always good. Our data is not so safe in the net, and they can be stolen in a cyberattack. In addition, Internet contains a lot of information, some of it unpleasant and dangerous, like pornography, violence and terrorism, which can damage the mind of children. In conclusion, Internet has changed our world, for better or worse. In my view, we must be very responsible of the use we make of Internet. By Daniel Rodrigo 3ยบ C

Compu Is the computer the most important invention ever?

‘Computers are the most important invention ever’

A long time ago, only a few people had a personal computer, but nowadays everybody has one and sometimes there are two or three computers in each family, but it is a good thing? Computers are very useful for the following reasons. Students can use it to make essays or projects. Furthermore, people can download music or films and they can watch them at home whenever they want to. You can also type information easily or search it on the internet about the topic you want. Finally, computers can be used in our free time. For instance, teenagers play computer games or they chat on their social networks. It is also true that computers have some disadvantages. Children use them very often to play computer games or chatting with friends and in the future they may depend on computers too much and that would be a problem. What is more, adults cheat teenagers for getting their personal information with the objective of stealing them. For example, cyber bulling. In conclusion, computers are the best invention ever if we know how to use them. From my point of view the electricity is more important because without it computers could not work. Course 2014-2015

Nowadays, everybody uses computer for everything, from surfing on the Internet, to work every day with it and have all your information on it. Is the computer the most important invention ever? Computers make our lives easier. Firstly, we can store a lot of information, instead of having too many papers. Secondly, people can communicate to other people just in seconds, not like sending cards, because that could take one or two weeks. People can chat online or make video-calls, seen and listening to the person you are talking to. Finally people can surf on the Internet, that means that you can buy online, watch videos, chat online, search information and so on. However computers have disadvantages too. People depend on them too much and they can not live without one. They have all their information on it and sometimes, when they break in or someone steals it, they lose a lot of really important information. Another important thing is the time that people lose playing games and surfing on the Internet. One of the worst thongs of computers are their prices, they are so expensive. In conclusion, the computer is one of the most important inventions ever, but it has a lot of disadvantages. Personally I think that it has more advantages. By Carlos Sánchez-Blanco 3º A

uters “Computers are the best invention ever” Computers have improved a lot since they first came out and are now used for many different things. But, are computers always a good thing or can they be a bad one? Computers have been very useful over the years for a number of reasons. Firstly, they have suffered a lot of changes that have made them improve. They started off by being huge and not having many uses and they have ended up being an item that is able to be carried anywhere. Secondly, computers have many uses. For instance, they can be used for work, for socializing, for gaming and so on. In contrast, computers do have disadvantages at the same time. It is a fact that computers have to be fixed at least once every two or three years until their owners get tired of them and buy a new one. This would not create so many problems if people did no rely on them as much as they do now. For example, people store most of their information and work in the computer which makes it a problem when having it serviced because it does not work. To conclude, computers have both advantages and disadvantages, but in my opinion, the problem is not the computer but their owners and people should be aware of the problems that computers can have before buying one. By Olivia Oquiñena 3º A

Is the computer the most important invention ever? A computer is a machine that we use to write, sending e-mails, talking, making videos, shopping online, playing, reading, watching television, listening to music and so on. The computer is one of the most popular inventions ever, but, is it the most important one? The computer can be the most important invention ever for a number of reasons. Firstly, we can use our laptops everywhere, in the past; we would have probably used paper. Secondly, we can send, for example, an essay in just a matter of seconds. Finally, we can use computers for everything. However, computers have disadvantages too. Some people use computers as a way to do cyber bulling, or hacking computers of others. Furthermore, computers have a connection to the Internet and the problem is that we have to pay for it or find a free wi-fi spot. Personally, I think that the computer is a good invention, but it isn´t the best, other inventions like cell phones, that people use much more nowadays, are extremely important. Sights Visiting Niagara Falls

TRIP TO ENGLAND

Niagara Falls is one of the biggest falls in the world. It is a very impressive place to visit. You can see it from the USA side or from the Canadian side. I visited it from the Canadian side, which is better because the view is wider and closer to the water. In summer it is quite hot but in winter it is mostly frozen, the weather can be really bad and the days are short. So it is better to go in summer. The shape of the main waterfalls is like a semicircle. There is a tower, named Skylon Tower, from where you can see all around. There are some restaurants to eat and also a big park for picnics. Close to the Horshoe Fall there is an elevator that takes you to a tunnel that goes behind the water. You have to wear a plastic to avoid getting wet. Or you may prefer to take a boat that takes you very close to the fall, what is very impressive. Definitively, it is a place to see.

I would like to talk to you about a trip I did with my family last summer. It was to the Southwest of England, starting and finishing in London. I am not going to talk about London, as many people already know it. After three days in London we rented a car and drove to the city of Southampton. It is always an adventure to drive at the left side. At the beginning it was a bit stressful but, after the first day, my father (and the rest of the family) were more relax. In the way to Southampton we visited the village of Chawton, where Jane Austin lived with her family, and Winchester, where there is a beautiful cathedral. Close to Southampton there is a natural park called New Forest. Here we made a tour by bicycle through the middle of a wild forest. It was very exciting. Next day we went to Stonehenge, where we could see the impressive famous prehistoric monument from the Neolithic age.

By Miguel Caballero 3ยบ A

In our way to the West we visited Stourhead, one wonderful huge garden with a country house (see lower picture).

In the west side we visited Exmoor National Park, which I liked very much and after we went to Bath, the very popular roman city in UK. Finally we went to Stratford upon Avon, where Shakespeare lived and to Oxford. At a summary, I liked very much the places, the landscape and the weather (no hot) in summer. By Someone in 3ยบ A

Revie 4º O S E When I watched “American Sniper” I was quite disappointed because I did not expect it to be as it was. It came out two weeks ago and it starred Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller from the incredible and amazing director Clint Eastwood. It is a true story about a famous sniper who served in Irak, but it is also a story about how hard it is to have a family life when being a soldier. This awful film was based on the stunning memoir “American Sniper” by Chris Kyle, as it is an autobiography. The plot might be too simple. Chris Kyle is a normal rodeo rider who decides to join up the SEAL´s and turns out to be a fantastic sniper with a huge potential. Suddenly, he falls in love with Taya Kyle when he meets her at a pub. The relationship gets really complicated when Chris Kyle is asked to go to Irak to the war where he will be nicknamed “The Legend” because of his bunch of kills. What I hated the most about the film was how slow it is and how stressful becomes as it is very moving. Everything is too loud and deafening and is not vivid and fast-moving at all. On the other hand, it is very credible, inspiring and realistic, given that it is based on a true story. If you want to go to the cinema within the next four weeks, do yourself a favour and do not waste your time and money watching it. There are a lot of films which are far betterproduced and with a much better and interesting plot and performance.

Twilight “ The book thief” “The book thief” is a film directed by Brian Percival based in a Markus Zusak’s novel about war, death and nazis. The story takes place in Germany during the Second World War, when a girl, Liesel, has to start living with a new family to try not to be discovered by the nazis. It is then when she learns to read, and that is what finally, even if it sounds weird, makes her survive. Personally, I did not like the plot, it was all a big mess and I did not understand very well what the film was trying to say, although it is true the setting and the costumes were very in keeping with that time. To me, the dialogues were kind of boring and weak and the soundtrack was repetitive and badly chosen; it seemed they had composed only one song for the whole film and in the end it sounded redundant. All in all, I did not like this long, tedious film but many people do. I will not recommend it to anyone because as I see it, it is not worthy at all, but that decision is up to you.

Twilight is a brilliant film by Catherine Hardwicke. It is a romantic film between a teenage girl and a vampire. It was filmed in 2010 in the north of Ireland. The film is for all the ages. It starred by Kristan Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The film was nominated 11 times at the Oscars and the soundtrack was written by Carter Burwell. The plot is very interesant, it hasn’t got bored scences. The main character is a teenage girl, that has moved to another city with her father. She met a boy in her new school, the boy was very diferent to the others, and she found out that he was a vampire. They fallen in love, but they had to run away becouse there were vampires that wanted kill Bella. In my opinion, this is one of the best, it makes you have a lot of feeling at the same time. You learn that love can with everything and if you love someone, you do everything for that person. This film is perfect, if you like romantic and science fiction films.

ews ‘Into The Woods’ ‘Into The Woods’ is a fascinating film that is really popular at this moment, because it has been a blockbuster. It is a really incredible film about a little girl that is into lots of typical Disney stories, for example, ‘Cinderella’, ‘The 3 pigs’’ and so on. This film is every unpredictable because you don’t know which of the Disney stories is coming next, so it is a little bit mysterious. If you like children films or Disney films, this film is the one you had been waiting for so long. In my opinion, ‘Into The Woods’ is a wonderful film, not only for kids but also for adults. It is well-produced not only because of the context and the spectacular stories, but also because the actors do it really credibly, specially Johnny Depp, who is one of my favorite actors. Moreover, I really loved the soundtrack because it was lively and inspiring to this film, that is what I liked the most. All things considered, I would recommend you to watch ‘Into The Woods’ if my description has kept a little bit your attention. You absolutely won’t regret it! You will also enjoy it if you are a fan of Disney stories, or even if you are not, this film is convincing for almost everybody. By Carla Montero 4º C

GTA 5 Grand Theft Auto is a video game released in 2013; it was the most popular video game with millions of sales around the world. It was awarded the best and the realest game of the year. It took three years to make it and three years later to the throwing lots of people continuous playing with it. In GTA you have to choose your avatar, it makes it more fascinating because you can make it like you. The video game consists in surviving and makes missions or if you prefer you can play online with different people of the world. The creators came up with the brilliant idea to make you be able to drive a car and all types of vehicles. In my opinion, this game is really good because is the realest game, it is like the real life. It is different to the rest of the games. One of the things that I liked the most was the good graphics. They really helped me feel what it was like to live in USA. If you are fan of action video game, you will love that game, and if you are not a fan of GTA your opinion is going to change after playing it. By Enrique Gutiérrez 4º C

The Hunger games The Hunger Games is a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins in the United States. It had been published between 2008 and 2010. The first book is called The Hunger Games (2008) and it is the most stunning one. The second part of The Hunger Games is Catching Fire (2009) which is very gripping and intriguing. The continuation of this second book is Mockingjay (2010) which is splitted in two parts. The three novels have all been develop into amazing films. The second part of Mockingjay was released in November 2014 and was a completely success. The three novels have a little bit of everything that makes them really amusing for everyone. They have adventure scenes, some science fiction, drama, action and romance too. The main Character is a teenage girl called Katniss Everdeen who lives with her mother and sister in the 12th district of “Panem”. Every year two tributes of each of the 12 districts are chosen to go to a compulsory annual televised death battle in which they will have to fight up to death and face the results of every of their actions. The plot of the story is very deep and mysterious because Katniss´s sister is chosen to go to The Hunger Games and Katniss risks her life and stands instead of her sister. She goes with the other guy that had been chosen who is called Peeta Mellark. He is very perceptive and he always looks after Katniss all though he knows that only one tribute can survive and win The Hunger Games. They will finally get in love with each other and make the action of the film more romantic. In my opinion, the best of the three books and the most spectacular one is the first one because is very fascinating and well-produced. I really liked it because every time I read it, it caches my attention. You never know what is going to happen next, it keeps your intrigue until the end. I recommend this book to everyone, especially for young people and I suggest reading them first and watching the film afterwards. You will become a complete fan of them and you won´t be able to stop reading them. By Ángela Blanco 4º C

More The impossible. The impossible is a fascinating film by the Spanish director, Juan Antonio Bayona, but it starred English and Americans actors, the mains characters are Naomi Watts (María Bennet) , Evan McGregor (Henry Bennet) and Tom Holland (Lucas Bennet). It had its première on the cinemas in 2012, but the real story had happened in 2004 in the awful tsunami in Tailandia in which millions of people died. The plot of the movie is so sensitive because you know that this story is truth and the director shows us all the emotions that this Spanish family lived. This family goes to Tailandia for Christmas, their resort is so relaxing, there is a big beach, an excellent service, and so on. But suddenly everything disappears, the palms trees, the horizon and a deafening big wave appeared. When María (Naomi Watts) emerged is alone, but seconds later a boy called her “mum, mum!” He is Lucas (Tom Holland), one of her sons. This scene was spectacular. Then María and Lucas fight to survive and they try to find their family. The least minutes of the film are the most intricate part of the movie. In my view this film was well-produced, convincing and absolutely incredible. The characters are brilliant. The thing that I liked the most is the respect and the tactful way of producing that film. All things considered, if you like emotional films, watch it! By Berta Astasio 4º C

Review

Roald Dahl is such a stunning book written by Roald Dahl. It is an amusing tale set in the United States. Roald Dahl might have written it since nine years although Matilda is not an old-fashioned book, moroever english teachers and librarians recommend it if you have a good level of english. The storyline starts up at Matilda’s home where she lives since she had been adopted. Matilda finds quite appealing and soothing reading all kinds of books at the local library. However, the problema is that it comes to her mind to opt for going to school. As soon as Matilda has conviced her father, the story turns to be hilarous owing to the adventures she passes at school. In addition to this, Matilda owns an incredible mind due to the fact that she is the cleverest between her classmates. From my point of view, I found reading Matilda very rousing, inspiring and catchy because I have never read a book that had totally appealed to me. Roald Dahl wrote such fascinating and well-produced books that as soon as you end up Reading one, you quickly want to read another one. To sum up, whether you are a fan or not of reading stories that are amazing, spectacular and incredible, I suggest you reading Roald Dahl’s books furthermore you will not regret it. e reviews “The Mission” “The Mission” is a brilliant film of Roland Jofe, filmed in the 1980s. It is an historical film set in the jungle of South America. The plot of the story is very inspiring. It is about a missionary of the Middle Ages. He is a Jesuitic that defends South American indian life, because the Portuguese people want to enslave them. The missionaries fail, because the “Tratado de Madrid” gives that part of the jungle to Portugal, and the jesuitics are forced to leave Spain as the consecuence of stay there looking after the indian people. In my opinion, the film is very sensitive as we can see in the moral values. The landscapes of the jungle are spectacular. In my view, the film is very catchy. It makes you think about these problems. All the actors of the film have made and an amazing performance, because the film is very credible. It is also well produced, just look at the costumes of the characters. The soundtrack won the Oscar to the best soundtrack, because it is increadible and relaxing. All things considered, you will love this film. It is very appealing, so do yourself a favour, and watch it with an open mind. You will not regret it!

Fast Fourious is an amazing film whose best actor is Dwayne Johnson “ The Rock “. When I was a child this fil was been in the cinema for many months and it won a lot of money, and also awards. The plot of the story is really good because you are intriguing and you don´t know how it finished. It is about fastdrive and attack to the police to earn money but the stories that happen in it are fascinating. The soundtrack and the acting is well-produced. Furthermore it is a comedy film because you laught seen it with some expresions. There was one scene that was really emotional. A drawback is that the screen play is sometimes uninspiring.

THE IMITATION GAME The Imitation Game is a very recent film, it came out on January 2015. The film is based on a historic fact that happened during the Second World War when England and Germany were on fight. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing the well-known English mathematician, he has to solve a German code called “The Enigma” which is an essential element for winning that terrible war. There are some complications that make the film really catchy and brilliant, one of them is that the main character is homosexual which was a crime in that time.

In my opinion, is brilliant. I loved the storyline of the film because is convincing and you have a fun time seen it. The “ Fast Fourious 5 “ is among my top ten films ever. In conclusion I recommend you if you like action films, if not, this film is spectacular, there is not a waste of money, you will love this film. Sometimes is not credible but there is not any problem. See it now before the film comes out. By Ignacio Muñoz 4º C

I really like this film, not only because I am very into mathematics but also because I admire Alan Turing. In my opinion, he was a clever and incredible person and he confronted a very mysterious and intriguing code which was The Enigma. However, I would prefer The Imitation Game to be more fast-moving and lively. In spite of that, it is one of the best movies I have ever seen and in my view, Benedict Cumberbatch does an amusing role as Alan Turing. I would recommend The Imitation Game to everyone, whether or not they like complicated mathematics problems. The thing people would like the most is that the story happened in real life, so this is going to be inspiring and deep for them. By Isabel Enseñat 4º C

FILM REVIEW: Unbroken is a film directed by Angelina Jolie, a famous actress, which tells an incredible and real story of what an Olympic runner lived through the First World War. The film was released a couple of months ago. The plot is absolutely moving and catchy because the main character is an American young man who had a tough childhood because of his religion. However, he tries his best and becomes and Olympic runner so it is inspiring and can be a role model for all of us. Unfortunately, the entire film could not be happy as it would lose all its thrilling. Everything changes when war comes, his fighting plane crashes and he is captured by the Japanese who keep him as a prisoner with hundreds of others. He then goes through awful treatments and painful punishments. In my opinion, the film is unbelievably well-produced, the storyline was vivid through the whole film and the cast acting skills were amazingly convincing, for instance, when the main character lost a friend you could feel his sorrow just by his factions and his reaction. One of the things that I liked the most was that the film was based on true events and that made the whole thing seem more realistic and thought-provoking. All in all, Unbroken was a blockbuster and if you haven´t seen it yet, I really recommend you to see it because it will give you a hint of how war felt to someone who once had fame and then woke up with nothing. In addition, the main message of the film would be: ¨Not to let bad things bring you down¨, so I think the film is made for everyone to watch and to learn. By Isabel Menéndez 4º C

REVIEW: ‘The Mortal Instruments’ is a fantasy and sciencefiction film based on a really good book, ‘The City of Bones’. It’s about shadowhunters, werewolves, vampires and all those Downworlders creatures. The writer was really ingenious when writing the book, so as to make everything fall in place, but the movie was actually really predictable and obvious. They chose great actors, Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell, but the writer didn’t rise them life that in our minds; the readers were expecting absolutely different faces! Lily plays de role of Clary, an ordinary girl that meets Jace (Jamie) and follows him around to find out that he’s a shadowhunter and that she is one too! The plot is fine, because their falling in love looks real, but the thrilling scenes aren’t as numerous as they are in the book, which makes it unappealing. In my opinion, they should have put more effort when producing the movie, as it’s too unreal. If they had chosen the right actors and if they had made it less fast-moving, it could have been wonderful. What’s more, the special effects were awful; this made it even more incredible! Even though it’s a fantasy film, they should have striven a lot more. However, what I liked about it is how much I learnt about Downworlders creatures, such as demons, werewolves, vampires and fairies. All things considered, I wouldn’t recommend this film at all and neither would a fan of the book! I’m sure anyone would love the book, as it’s truly catchy, but not the film! Now, go ahead and read the book and forget about the movie! Lucía Gómez del Río 4º A

“GONE GIRL” FIFA 15 My favourite video-game is fifa 15. It is an entertaining game about football in which you can play realistic and fastmoving matches on your T.V. It was invented in 1987 by a korean who was an incredible genious, he made possible to people being part of football, controlling each footballer and their movements. The game displays a big variety of playing football types. People might think that it is a predictable game where you only play football games, but is amazing that you can be also the coach of a team, which involves talking with your players and controlling the team economy. Another brilliant fact is that matches are always thrilling until the last minute, many times you score the decisive goal in the extra-time. Finally, the game inludes famous comentarists voices and relaxing music which will help you while you are setting the game. Personally the thing I most like is how catchy the game is and that you can play online with friends or just with strange people, which makes matches even more stunning and credible because you play against real people. All thing considered, if you are a football fan and you like killing your time playing video-games, you will love Fifa 15. I recommend to buy it now for only 50 dollars, I promise that it is a good value for money.

“Gone Girl” is a brilliant novel written by Gillian Flynn. It is a gripping thriller that you will not be able to put down once you have started reading it. It was written a few years ago, in 2012, but it is very popular now due to the release of the film adaptation, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. The story begins when Nick Dune’s wife, Amy, suddenly disappears on the day of their wedding anniversary. When the police start the investigation, Nick becomes the main suspect, even though he swears he has not done anything to his wife. Nick and Amy seem to be the perfect couple, but as you read the book, you realise that nothing is what it seems to be. The plot is very clever, full of unexpected turns and convincing, realistic characters that are full of secrets, which makes the novel an intricate and thrilling reading. Personally, I loved the book, not only because it is fastmoving, so you do not have time to get bored, but also because it is like nothing I have read before: original, credible and fascinating. The film adaptation is very well produced and almost as scary as the book. Pike’s performance is simply amazing, portraying her character, Amy, perfectly. I would recommend the novel to anyone who enjoys reading intriguing books. The film is a little violent in some scenes, but I would recommend it if you have read the book before. However, be careful, for I can assure you this book will leave you shaken!

Teena “The importance of being a teenager” What do you think about the importance that teenagers have nowadays? Do you think that they have opportunities for expressing their opinions? Let´s imagine that you are a teenager now, how would you feel? Do you like their situation with adults? As far as I´m concerned teenagers are now in the best age and they have to express their feelings to other people, to the world. But some people don´t listen to them and think that they are crazy or that teenagers are never right, however not everybody are like this. So, in my opinion the head of the newspaper should split up the articles and put essays written by teenagers talking about their feelings or wherever, because I think this could be good for them because this kinds of media is something that adults read very often, so they can know about teenagers. Lastly, in my view some people dont believe in teenagers, so consequently it is necessary putting an article about them, because if they write in a newspaper or in a magazine, people can see it and furthermore it will be perceived by others By ANDREA ARIAS 4º A

TEENAGERS FEELS What do you think your soon feels about him and other teenagers? Nowadays is difficult to be a teenager, 19 years old people nowadays. A lot of entertainment and they`re overwhelmed because they have a lot to study. This week I ‘was in the bus when a boy with his girlfriends went on the bus, he went all the time with his mobile phone later he didn´t get off in his bus stop because he’s go absent minded. When I saw this, I stance thinking about the how a teenager feels. Firstly I think that teenagers are so overwhelmed because they need to study a lot if they want to get a good job whence. I think this is their obligation. Secondly technology nowadays is an entertainment for young people, and I think the teenagers are absents because they spend all the time playing or chatting. Furthermore I think that this problem has an easy solution but it requires teenagers responsibility they can switch off the mobile when they are studying. In addiction I think all teenagers are perceived by others the same. Nowadays all teenagers are overwhelmed and sad because their spend a lot of time playing or wasting time. All in all I think teenagers can be happy and good people with technology or with other things but their need to be responsible. By Alberto Zaballos 4º A

agers HOW MAKE TEENAGERS GET INTO SOCIETY ? What means to be a teenager at the moment? Teenagers are not considered to be like adults, however they are not considered to be like children either. So who are they? Many people belive that a teenager´s life is the best life´s period. Because they are almost adults but they still have childhood privileges. For instance: they don´t have to work but they can get money without doing anything. As a result teenagers become troublesomes guys. That´s why elderly people think that teenagers licve in another galaxy and they don´t wnat to be in the same world as adults. Furthermore, they think that a teenager can´t be interested in real world. On the other hand i think that image of that adolescent should be deleted, because nowadays not every teenagers are troublesome, just a miniority vontinue being unruly. So if we let teenagers express their opinion, talk about their feelings a so on, it could be better for our country. If we integrate them into the society, we will be showing the world, they are not what they used to be, everything could change. All in all, I consider that adults should let them participate in the world and, consequently, in my opinion, if they are an important figure they could change the world. By Claudia de Miguel 4º A

SOMETHING WE ALL HAVE TO PASS THROUGH Being a teenager is not that easy and people should understand that, but that does not mean that we can do what we want. Everyone has been through this, haven’t we? Do you remember similar situations, don’t you? Let’s imagine for one second that you were me, would you feel the same way? At this period of our lifes, teenagers tend to think that they know more that anyone; in which i include myself, but moreover that we do not need advice. Furthermore, we want to be more independent and do things we are not supposed to do such as drinking alcohol and smoking. However, this is a consequence of fear; fear of not being accepted or being turned down. Therefore, we do things we do not actually want to di but still do them anyway. What’s more, we would all probably habe to admit that during the adolescence we have changes of humor, and so we tend to be more agresive and answer with badmanners to our parents. Despite all this, nothing is justified. In my opinion, there are teenagers that do treat their parents in a way they do not deserve. The thing is that this id not only about familiar setting, but also among the society. I know cases in where teenagers have comitted crimes, such as simple robberies up to murders. I consider their families should be controling and helping them when they have problems like becoming drug dealers. All in all, i think at this age people do stupid things and is there where the people that love you should guide you to demostrate you how important you are for them and, without problems, it is the most beautiful time of our lives and we should take advantage of it, although there are difficulties we have to get over. TEENS NEWS: Have you ever wondered what older people think about teenagers? Then you can just sweep through a newspaper to see the ideas that form into their minds about youth. For instance, there is this local story in which a group of teenagers were arrested by fighting in a supermarket. Last weekend, 5 teenagers were taken to the police office despite the fact of not having started the fight. They were involved in it and also were young and so the police did not think it twice of who the starter of the conflict was. Moreover, these teenagers were expelled from their institute as the bad reputation it will provide their centres. Personally, this contributes to create a wrong idea of teenagers because they missed half of the facts as in the end they were responsible for nothing. Although this may seem a typical item of news that no one

will spend much time reading, it I a clear example of old people’s ideas of teenagers. Firstly, there are thousands of bad things teenagers do and a few of good ones on the media. Secondly, that teenagers like freedom does not mean they are vandals or immature. Not only do we know what is right and wrong but also the future depends on us. All in all, in the whole world might be teen vandals but also older vandals and I do not think it is fair to judge all by the mistakes of a few. Nevertheless, teenagers are being welleducated and prepared to build a better future for all. By Isabel Menéndez 4º C

Teen h HEADACHES IN TEENS TIED TO OVERWEIGHT, SMOKING AND LACK OF EXERCICE How often we see teenagers just laying in the sofa eating and watching TV? Or maybe we see them with their friends drinking and smoking? Recent studies agree students nowadays tend to be lack of exercice and with overweight. This week an important sports company has showed the results of the studies they did to students month ago. As a result, they have probed teenagers nowadays are more lazy because of the technologies and they usually have more problems like headaches. Although, those are not the most important problems they have, they also develop cancer, viruses, illneses, etc. because of their habits. They smoke, they drink everyweek, they are overweight… and so on. However, many people have claimed for these bad publicity to students. Firstly, I think people always say bad things about teenagers and they avoid recognicing good things they have. Not only because criticizing them is easier, but also because they only focus on a little part of the population of teenagers. Furthermore, in my opinion it is adults the ones who have created this kind of adolescence. All in all, we should all be proud of our teenagers because they are our future. So we have to help them to have good habits. By Paula García 4º C

Headaches in teens tied to overweight, smoking and lack of exercise Have you ever heard about headaches in teenagers? I think the answer is going to be “yes, I have”. The story is nowadays scientist are probing why teens have frequently headaches and the sparks are related with health problems. This year a scientist team has been really interested in those problems, like headaches in young people, as this reason they got a conclusion, that it is link with bad healthy habits, like smoking being overweight, alcohol and so on. Whereas, there are many teenagers that do not think like them. From their point of view, problems like headaches are spark for study a lot, stress and things like that. As a result a new debate about teen´s health has been opened. However, personally, I think that the people who really know what are the reasons of each problems are the scientists therefore, they are who have studied about our health. Moreover, problems like overweight are provoking serious illness, or smoking as well, like cancer. So I think that somebody has to teach us how to get a healthy life style. In conclusion, I agree with the headline because at the moment those problems like alcohol or lack of exercise are provoking other illness so headaches could be provoking for the reason I explained before. HEADACHES IN TEENS TIED TO EVERWEIGHT, SMOKING AND LACK OF EXERCISE

What are headaches in teens tied exactly of? Well, this is the story about scientific studies made in the Madrid University that prove which is that mean reason and why does it happens to the most part of teenagers. Two days ago, a newsflash told us that university students in Madrid, have been investigating for a long time, which are the main reasons associated with teenagers headache. Firstly, thought that it wasn’t only because of the food that they’re eating, but it was also because they used to eat too much junk food and they are lack of exercise. Furthermore, the most part of teenagers at this time smoke, and so, that is why headaches appear. As far as I’m concerned, those teenagers must control what they are doing at this time because consequently, they’re going to feel much worse when they get older. However, not every teenager has headaches. In conclusion, I think that those newsflashes let us learn more about all the teenagers in the world and why they do have headaches.

If you are a teenager inclined to have headaches, you should pay attention to the next story about a girl that had a lot of headaches and didn’t know where they were coming from. We all have heard about people who suffer from strong headaches, but they are usually aged people or persons who have other health problems that lead to headaches. This brings up to the question of why some teenagers are inclined to have these headaches. Let me exemplify this question by giving an example of a girl’s story which I heard in the news last year. The girl was called Anne and she was 17 years old. She started to feel these headaches when she came back to school from the summer holidays in September. She could not concentrate at school owing to start getting lower grades and having a bad mood every afternoon that she came back home. She decided to go to hospital and asked the doctor about what was happening to her. The doctor eventually found out the solutions to Anne’s headaches. In other words, he told her that since she had come from the summer holidays, she had not been doing any exercise, she was getting overweight and besides that, she had recently started to smoke. Bearing what the doctor told her in mind Anne consequently decided to stop smoking. Furthermore she started to do more exercise at school and as a result of that, she stopped having those headaches. For me, the gist of the matter is that everyone no matter if you are young or old should have a health life to avoid having this kind of diseases. Furthermore schools should propose some key rules to follow so that teenagers could know what sort of things will help them to feel healthy and not to have any headaches.

TWO TEENS ARRESTED AFTER GRAFFITI PAINTED ON HIGH SCHOOL.

Two teens arrested after graffiti painted on undergrounds of Spain

How it is feel to be a teenager today? Then let me show you the new that is making headlines. This is the story of a group of friends had graffiti painted and after they were arrested. This week two teenagers painted a graffiti in them school, when two police acused them of doing something ilegal. They tried to explain that the headmaster had let them do it. Desoite they were saying the truth, the police were so rude. They went to look for the headmaster but he wasn’t at school. As a result they were arrested, days after the director called for said that the students were allowed to do it, but the police acused them of not being polite and not showing respect. Therefore the teenagers said that the policemen were playing jokes of them. In my opinion nobody has believed at teenager, and i think that the elderly said the thing that we always do bool things. We are the future so the elderly should trust more in us. The police should apologize.

How often do you hear about teenagers doing bad things? Then, let me talk about a graffiti band that operates on the undergrounds of Spain, causing a terrible damage to the urban services. Firstly, almost never there are news about goods actions of teenagers, and this is not an exception. This is the story of a graffiti band that on the nights, they paint the trains of some of the most important cities of Spain. Furthermore, they had painted more than five stations. The police arrest the band when they are painting a train. However, this is caused by their parents bad education. Personally, I think that old people’s opinion is that teenagers only wants fun, but they are not concerned about a commun cause of these actions, the parents. As far I’m concerned, this opinion has to change, because teenagers are humans, so they will understand the situation if experts and parents talk to them. On the other hand, I know that these actions are unacceptable, and consequently, this will have a legal consequence, may be the jail, or economic santions. To sum up, I think this is a key new to be concerned about how important is the education of teenagers, because a bad education can affect society.

arrested Disadvantaged adolescents prone to adult crime, drink and drug problems, study finds When you got home yesterday after work, did you switch on the tv? Did you whatch the news? If not, pay attention. A good research was shown yesterday about disadvantaged adolescents that will catch your attention. Whether we like it or not, there are lots of disadvantaged adolescents in our cities that they tend to get in drugs and crimes. Personally, I have not been a victim of them. Nevertheless, there are certain people they have. As a result of the increasing of adult crime and drug problems, a research was started two years ago and yesterday was published that almost all of the new people in drugs or crimes were disadvantaged adolescents. Althought this story may not seem to be so important, I think it raises some key points. Firstly, I think this adolescents shuld be payed more attention and goverments must give them more help. What´s more, I think that if they can live correctly they will not make crimes and all will be better. Because I do not think they are bad people but they need money so they steal it, if they had it, they would not steal. All in all, I think this ítem of news is significant because it demonstrates how important is to help disadvataged adolescents and give them a good education. By Rubén Domínguez 4º C

SEVERAL TEENS ARRESTED AFTER FIGHT MALL Have you heard about teenagers being arrested? If not, let me tell you one of the stories that its topic has been caught for writing books and has become bestseller. this story is inspired in a teenager experience’s, who went out last night. That weekend Silicon Valley, a shopping centre had been opened its doors to every sort of public and what’s more, it included a disco. Despite the fact that it is such weird that a mall contains a disco, that was the perfect idea for teenagers. Therefore, students near to the mall would spend a part of their weekend at the disco. However, there were a turn of events in the facts, such as the noise, which was caused by the high music and laughs of the adolescents, disturbing the neighborhood next to. The fights started to be a normal fact, and two of the teenagers went into trouble with one of the guards. As a result, the guard called the police and the two teenagers were arrested. Personally, I am against of this attitudes whereas the guard could have calmed them down. All in all, I think this item of news ought to be significant and shown to teenagers because it proves how important education is, and whether you have a problem or not, discuss it or ague it but never end up fighting. Teens TEENAGERS FEELINGS Many people think that teenagers live only for technology, but, could it be because nobody gives us the chance of telling our points of view in newspaper or magazines? This is the story of a 16 years old teenager that could be an example for that. Years ago, a teenager started writing some articles on the net. Firstly he was not too popular, but in only 2 months his articles were famous in all over the city. As a result, his school gave him the chance of working in the school newspaper. What is more, the head master wrote a letter to some magazines, not only recommending him, but also sending some articles for each one. Therefore, one very famous magazine in that moment contacted with him and asked if he would like to write an article every week giving his opinion about different topics. He thought about it a lot but lastly he accepted the job. Nowadays, with only 25 years, he is one of the most important journalist in the world and he is working in ABC, a Spanish newspaper. All things considered, I think that old people should give us more opportunities, like in the case of this important journalist, not only with articles, but also with music, art, drama… If they do that, I am sure that we will not spend so many time in front of the TV and we will be a generation with an amazing culture and creativity. Teenagers in the actually How does teenagers feel in the actually? Nowadays teenagers are influenced from singers, actors or programmers for example Justin Bieber. Teenagers are misunderstood in the society. We are the future. Adults think that teenagers only make parties, they drink alcohol and smoke but I think that teenagers study, listen to music and also do parties because it is the age for this. For teenagers is very important the friends for speak with them for example their feelings. I don´t like the persons that speak badly about the teenagers because they pass for this age and they do the same. Teenagers like music, parties, sports, all the things that the movement, they don´t like study but they want to learn more things for have a good future. Teenagers adapt to the times in which they live. In conclusion, it is probably that teenagers influence other, all of them have not personality to say but they develop in the future. TEEN SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED If you switch the TV on this morning, sure you have heard about the most important regional ítem of news today. This is the story of one teen who shooted his teacher in the middle of the manths lesson. One of the pupils was there when it happened, communicated us all what happened this day on this class. Firstly the teen closed the door, he went to the teacher ´s table and he started to beat him. What´s more some pupils stood and they tried to stop him but they weren’t able to. Consequently, the rebellious teen took out his gun. He shooted the teacher. As a result the people out the class heard and fastly went to the class. The reason why the teen wanted to kill the teacher was because he had failed all the exams. Teenagers, the key Teenagers are a very large group of young people, between 12 and 18, that nowadays seem to be really important due to the amount of problems they have. That´s why people don´t like us. So in this article we want to show you, if it´s true that live would be easier without teenagers. Of course my answer is no. Teenagers nowadays are a group of people that want to have fun and hang out with their friends to the cinema, shopping, or even play videogames. Despite the fact, the adults think that if we don´t study like them, we won´t successful because we are not concentrated in what´s important. As a result parents get angry. On the other hand, I would like to say that teenagers know what they do and some of them, the majority, study really hard to do in the future what they want, secondly we aren´t robots and we have our feelings and when we do something wrong we accept it, and finally we take care of people when it´s necessary, because we have our little hard inside. All in all, personally I understand why people think of us like that (sometimes we are very irresponsible), however they have been teenagers too, and I’m not sure at all, but maybe they think that what we do is weird because they used to do different activities. People develop and I´m sure that in the future my children would make things that I would not understand, but I´ll accept it. By Marco Moreno 4º A

Misce ARE WE AWARE OF CRIMES AROUND US? It is said that we are all victims of upcoming gangsters and that there is nothing we can do about it but, certainly, our fears could be bigger than the actual truth. It is claimed that we are aware of the danger among everywhere we go. They say we are truly familiarized with the possibility of an unexpected crime, as well as the knowledge of the rising statistics on crimes. However, authorities try to calm down people’s disappointment with safety, though uselessly. They try to allay our fears with no results at all. What’s more, it is also pointed out that forces of law and order even manipulate rates and statistics on the quantity of crimes to calm people down! They make us think we are safe and sound, but the majority of us don’t even give it a thought and act with responsibility and prudence, as anything could happen. Also, the reason for this awareness is that there is a large number of people with personal experience as victims in crimes. Anyway, although authorities don’t tell the truth nor do they try to be trustworthy and reliable, it is a fact that some of the most common kinds of crime were more usual years ago than they are now. But the real matter is, whatever the forces lie about, whatever they are told, whatever scares us, we are prepared to get hit below the belt. The only thing that people care about is how ready they are to get hit. The readier you are, the less it harms. By Lucía Gómez 4º A

DO ANIMALS DESERVE DIFFERENT HELP DEPENDING ON THEIR SPECIES? According to some specialists, what we basically need to do is to focus on protecting tigers, while others hold up the idea of protecting the animals most likely to survive. Personally, I find quite unfair letting other species fade away. What if what they do is meaning? Not only might they be helpful, but they do deserve life. It’s true that spending too much money on celebrated species is a loss, but they do deserve some help! I believe that the best way to help species without wasting any money or time, would be to focus on every species the same way. No unfairness, no waste! It is also true that making a change in that would cause a stir, because everyone would be shocked, but at long last, they would be made! Each species deserves the same attention, and, with everyone’s help, we could definitely do it. ellanea Central Station’s Customers Service PO Box 13599 Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to complain about an incident that took place six days ago at your book-selling vending machine, inside New York’s Central Station. Your system provides the possibility of choosing a book or keeping the money inserted back. When I had selected the book I wanted and inserted the coins, the line where the book I wanted was started to move forward. But, however, at a time, it got stuck. I waited and re-entered the code, but it did not work. Furthermore, it did not return my money when I required it. I went to the Customers Service and they said they would call me, but I haven’t gotten that call yet. Despite this disappointing service, I have never been allowed to speak to the principal and I have tried several times. I find this truly inconvenient and disappointing. I demand that you send me money back and the paperback book I wanted, as well as a convincing explanation of why the problem happened. If I do not hear from you promptly, I shall take my complaint to the Main Customers Service. Yours faithfully, Lucía Gómez By Lucía Gómez 4º A

“For a few to be immortal, many must die” Nowadays, less people is getting richer and living a luxurious life meanwhile an increasing majority is dying from illnesses and hunger. The way I see it, is that injustices happen all over the world even though we try to ignore them. The first thing to point out is that I consider that many people aren´t responsible for their situation whereas others deserved it. For instance, in Africa, life is determined by the circumstances you are born in and also determined by luck. However, someone who is addicted to drugs, live a life of misery by choice. What is more, poorness is seen as something from developing countries but there are plenty of people in need in our own cities and countries. Another thing to bear in mind is that there are also organisations that work to alleviate this situation and to reduce the high mortality in less fortunate places. We all know there are still powerful people who don´t care about the suffering of others and only look for their own benefit although there are more and more others who are willing to help at any time and even give their lives. All in all, some people try to ignore the injustices but I believe that a lot more people are getting aware of what happens in our world. Nevertheless, many people work to save lives and others contribute with their money. Not only that, we also should find new ways to help because there is still a lot to be done and to repair our world. By Isabel Menéndez 4º C

It all started with a double click meanwhile I bought the product directly for the factory, they ensured me that the toy will arrive the 3rd or April of 2014, one week before the birthday of my little cousin. I was well aware of the receive of the product, but two weeks later it came and ended up in the house of the neighbours. That same afternoon the neighbours came to my house delivering me the box. Additionally, apart from making our little cousin cry, the toy came dismantle and without any battery. We spent five hours trying to put together the pieces of the toy, but there was no matter. Secondly, we went to five battery shops but guess what? None of them sold such a modern type of battery. The box clearly stated that the battery was inside. Dear Mr López, I am writing on behalf of all high school sophoners to complain about the removal of the end-of-course trip. I believe that this measure has not only been unwelcome, but it has also been ineffective. Whilst it is probably true that there are students that cause troubles during the trip, this group does not represent all of them. The vast majority of the students obey the rules and do not give any problem. The fact is that by punishing everyone merely because of a small group, they will feel encouraged to behave badly since they will be punished anyway. To make matters worse, as far as I am concerned this trip was a reward for all the work done along the school year. It was a way to encourage students to do their best and, as a result of not having any motivation, their marks could decrease. Furthermore, they can try to organise their own trip without any supervision. In this case, if any kind of problem happens they will not know how to solve it. In conclusion, what annoys me is that we have to bear a guilt that is not ours. Students know that if they want the trip they will have to show that they know how to behave. Once we have shwon this, I would like you to reconsider the possibility of restoring the end-of-course trip. Sincerely, Clara Álvaro By Clara Álvaro 1º B

Fashion Trends

Report on the importance of fashion in my country: Introduction:

This report is intended to show how important is fashion for teenagers in my country and to make recommendations to improve the fashion industry. Fashion nowadays: Fashion is always changing, but some trends usually come back. Now vintage clothes are everywhere following the 80s-style with ripped jeans, animal prints, jean jackets and sneakers. Furthermore, you can also see numerous capes, leather, military stamping or even girl wearing boy’s clothes. Celebrities are the trendsetters and people try to copy their style. The importance of fashion for teenagers: Some teenagers believe that following the trends is essential, while others refuse it. The main reason to come after the trends is to be fashionable and glamorous. However, as far as I am concerned this should not matter. Everyone has to wear what they like and not what is trendy, because clothes are a way to show your personality. In addition, we should look for our comfort to be able to do everything we want in our daily life. Recommendations for the fashion industry: Having taken everything into consideration, my suggestion is to find a balance between quality and price. This will encourage the costumers to buy the products and as a result it can create brand loyalty. I also recommend launching marketing campaigns in order to announce their brand to the buyers. I certainly believe this could be the way to open the world of vogue for everyone. By Clara Álvaro 1º B

It had been snowing all day, but my Friends and I decided to hang out and go to the cinema to see a cary movie. It was a cold night and by 9:00 pm we were in the mall ready to enter to the movie. We bought pop corn and soda and then entered to the cinema. The movie had begun so we tried not to do be really noisy while we were trying to find our seats. As we were there, we could hear how bad was raining, it was so scary heard the storm that it was freaking uso ut. When we were whatching the movie, suddenly the lights turned off, as quick as a flash I tried to get out of the room and go outside. We are lock! I yelled at everybody when I tried open one emergency door. People started calling the pólice

FASHIONABLE TEENS Introduction The purpose of this report is to outline styles or items of clothing that are fashionable at the moment and to explain and recommend fashionable items. The key is to make more ads to attract teenagers. Items fashion at the moment A considerable number of teenagers in my country use hoodies without hood and it is very common also to see lots of boys and girls with skinny pants. It is very fashionable in ye girls to wear bright colours like yellow, orange or pink. In boys however they are fashionable to wear shirts and ties. How important it is I consider it is important the clothes people wear because it can say a lot of things about them. Just by seen how someone is dressing you can guess them personality. It is also true that there are some people who don`t care and its appearance may be very different from their personality, but most people can be distinguished by their dressing style. Recommendation In my view the products should be of better quality to last longer. This, ever if the product price rises, I think people would still buy the products. The quality of the product is the most important factor we should be looking for while buying the product. Suggestion To improve the industry they should create better and witty ads on television focused on teenagers because most of the ads are or for kids or for adults, but not for the teens. The teenagers move a lot of purchases and generate a large amount of money. By Jaime Sánchez-Blanco 1º B

A story to report about what as happene, when suddenly the screen turnned on and a picture of a spiral moving appeared in it, people was confused but it relaxed them and made sea on their seats. It started raining even more and a big explotion had happened. I started screaming and when I looked around, my friends were baffling about me, they didn´t know that I just had a nightmare! It was all a dream! The movie was so boring that I fall asleep! Later I told my Friends what happened in my dream and they started to laugh about me! Nowadays they still making jokes about it! Hi daisy, How is things? Did you finally go to Yosemite National Park with your friends? I hope you did, the plan sounded really good, I’ve always wanted to visit that part of the state, to see the waterfalls, the big forest... So, as I told you in June, I went to Kauai, the northernmost island of Hawaii for ten days during my summer holidays. It’s an amazing tropical place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. As soon as we got there,we went straight to the beach and we snorkel led for a while, we saw not only goldfish, but also turtles, octopuses and some stingrays. The experience was awesome. We did some hiking in the jungle to see the canon, and of course we surfed a bit, but the waves were huge, so it was a bit tricky. Now I’m sad summer is over, but I’m looking forward to seeing you in the holidays to go to the fancy restaurant that you love and talk about our summer adventures. Hi Georgia, How ´re you going? Thanks for your last e-mail. Sorry it´s taken me a while to reply but I was on holidays last week. We went to Egypt to visit it. The place is beautiful, but you´ll never guess what happened in this trip. The plane took off at 12 p.m., but when we arrived at the airport three hours before, they said that our flight had recently taken off. However, it was Iberia´s problem, so we had to wait for 5 hours for the next flight. Despite waiting, we travelled business, so the trip was very comfortable. When we arrived in Egypt, we hired a tour to different places with a guide and a private car. While we were eating lunch, someone stole the car with our cameras and, most important, our passport! Therefore, you can imagine how we finished the holidays. We spent the next days in the embassy, and we couldn´t visit the pyramids. Next time you visit, I´ll show you the 3 photos that we took of the embassy and the airport. Keep in touch Lots of love By Cristina Ayuela 2º C Hi Marta, How is everything going? You should know what happened to me last weekend. It was my birthday on Friday and it was a full weekend. I had a lot of fun not only on Friday but also Saturday and Sunday. So, on Friday I woke up and I saw a huge cake and presents in the kitchen that my parents and my best friend gave me. It was a surprise to find them awake at that time. As soon as we ended having breakfast, I went to school on foot with some friends. After school, I slept to party all the night. On the following day, I went shopping with my mum to a famous street in the centre of Madrid called Fuencarral. I spent the whole day with my relatives from Italy and seeing them was great! You should come to Spain! Anyway, I will visit you in Italy as soon as I can. Can’t wait to see you! Lots of love. By María Muelas 2º B

Letters Lost in Valencia Hi Alicia, How are you doing? Do you remember the trip I took to Valencia last summer with my friend Alejandro? I forgot to tell you the unbelievable adventure that happened to us. So, Alejandro and I were visiting a museum where some Sorolla paintings were being exhibited. When they were about to close, we decided to return to the hotel. We left the building and started our way back. We kept on talking during the whole walk, but, suddenly, I realized I didn’t know where we were going. Then, I asked Alejandro if he knew the route we were following. He answered that I was the one guiding him and definitely not the other way round. In conclusion, we were lost. Finally, we could find Main Street and after a sweaty half an hour we were at the hotel hall safe and sound. All in all, I must say we had a lot of fun and it is a story I will always remember. And now I wonder: why couldn’t I get lost with you somewhere? We must plan a trip!

Hi David, I hope you are doing fine and that the start of the school is going smoothly for you. What are you studying? I’m worried because I don’t know what I would like to be in the future yet. Do you? Anyway, I have a serious problem so I need your help. You don’t mind, do you? The other day I was in the subway coming back home from high school when, suddenly, I found a wallet. I didn’t see anybody worried or looking for it so I decided to bring it home. When I got home, I realized that the wallet was full of money, roughly 1.000 dollars!! You know that I love to play the piano and I’m saving money to buy a new one. What do you recommend? Should I go to the police? Or take the money with me and buy the piano I was looking for? I’m an honest boy, but this fact is driving me mad. Your decision will be mine. Thank you David! See you soon. Jack By Daniel Samper 2º A

By Ignacio Vasserot 2º B Hi Manuel,

Hey Lucy! What’s up! Where are you? I don’t know anything from you for two weeks so I’m getting worried. Please answer me back as soon as possible. Love you, XOXO

How´s everything going? I´m so glad you´ve opened this new e-mail account, so we can talk more! Guess what? My birthday gift from my parents is a trip to Italy, to Rome! So, last Monday I was working so hard on my research for Music class, you know… searching information about Mozart´s and Bach´s lives and all that stuff, so boring! When my mum got into my room and told me to go to the kitchen. I was so scared because my mum´s voice tone was of anger and I thought that I had done something bad during the weekend, such as not studying so much, or not helping my father to build his new bookshelf, or not playing with my brother…Whatever, I went to the kitchen shaking when I saw this big bucket full of chocolate and sweets and in the middle of it, the airline tickets to Rome. I was astonished! Despite being so afraid and fearing the worst, the consequences of obeying my mum and going to the kitchen were super good. We are going to visit Rome this weekend, for 4 days and we are going to visit all Rome! Everything! I´m so thrilled! So when you´re in French on Friday remember me. I´ll be visiting the Roman Coliseum. I´ll show you all my pictures and also, I´ll bring you something from there. Can´t wait to see you, Ale.

Hi Merry, I’m sorry I haven’t written for a while, but I have been very busy with schoolwork. All of a sudden everybody is working really hard this term, and there’s so much to learn. I haven’t finished my global exams yet! But in one week I will be free. Do you remember the last time we went shopping together? You won’t believe what happened to me when I was arriving home! I took the subway, line 4 to “Pinar de Chamartín”. I had 1000 dollars in the wallet so I was really worried and scared, I didn’t want to be mugged! After few minutes, I calmed so I started to use the mobile phone. I left the underground and, suddenly, I realized I didn´t have the wallet. OMG!! I began to cry, I couldn’t believe it. My first thought was that I had been stolen but… I was the luckiest girl over the world. The police called me. They had my wallet! So I went to the police officer as fast as I could and took it. I asked who had been the honest person and they gave me his personal details. His name was Jack and I got his phone number and thanked him. Now, I still talk with him and I´m falling in love. I will tell you more about this relationship. Best wishes XOXO

Letters Hi Jessica, What brilliant news in your letter! I´d like to congratulate you on your driving licence. Well Done! It would be a pleasure to be able to go anywhere and whenever you want without depending on your parents or even on public transports that could last a decade to arrive. Anyway, I´m writing because I have new many fresh news to tell you, and I consider a certainty you will love them. Firstly, as you know, I went to Canada last summer to a family-host during a month and a half and I got on well with them not only because there is a girl with my age but also because they´re thoughtful and have everything under control. They have recently written to me saying that their oldest son left home months ago, just after his weeding. As a result, they invited me to go back this year and also offered the chance of carrying a friend of mine. I must point out that in Canada there are two official languages, and they lived in the area where French is commonly used. It means we have to forget Spanish for a month and focus on learning and tweaking our French. I urge you to talk to your parents as soon as possible to start organizing the summer of our lives; I hope you will consider my suggestion seriously. I´m looking forward to hearing from you without delay. Keep in touch, XOXO By MARTA ÁLVAREZ 2º B

WRITING: AN EMAIL Hi Lucía, How’re you doing? You’ll never imagine what happened to me last week; I went to Vogue’s Fashion Night Out and it was amazing. So, last Thursday I went to this fashion event with my mum and a friend. I’d been planning that night with my friend since we first met two months ago. We went to the centre of Madrid wearing fabulous outfits; however, it started to rain a lot and we thought all of our plans would be ruined. Luckily, my friend’s uncle works at El Corte Inglés and he invited us three to the VIP zone; there were famous people, photographers, and free food and drinks, of course. We spent a really nice time there and we felt like celebrities for a day. Next year you have to come with us. I’m pretty sure you’ll love the fashion world! Hello Amy, It was wonderful to read all your latest news, especially the amazing trip you have recently made. I wish I could visit some of the places you have visited in just a summer. I´m really sorry I´ve taken so long to get back to you but I was taking exams and I didn’t have any free time even to answer you. However, lots of things happened these days and I´m feeling like telling you everything. Guess what? My friends prepared me a surprise party last weekend because of my 18 birthday. Well, just about everyone came- even that weird guy Sam from college! My parents told me that we would eat out in a new Chinese restaurant; it was such a credible alibi because they are my favourites. Then, I came into a dark place that seemed everything but a restaurant. Suddenly, I heard familiar voices shouting in unison “Happy Birthday”! I started weeping emotionally and a huge multitude moved closer and hugged me. Later, me danced a lot and had real fun. I have no doubt I will never forget this day; they made my dream come true. It´s such a pity you aren´t living here. What´s more, it would have been totally perfect of you were at the party. I miss you a lot! Next time you visit, I´ll show you some of the photos my parents took; there are some of them which are extremely comical. Can´t wait to see you next time you´re back. Discrimination Discrimination against other people is a crime

Discrimination against other people is a crime

The majority of people consider that discrimination is not a crime. Discrimination does not cause physical harm to the person but psychological, and it is as bad as the other. Personally, as I see it, it is the same damage and that’s why I consider it to be a crime and to punish to the guilty. The feeling of being discriminated against a person or group of people must be enormously offensive and it might cause changes in personality and sense of inferiority. It is a form of passive violence in which discriminators have a distorted vision of the essence of the individual person. Consequently, it produces a bad mood on the person to face their life naturally because they consider themselves useless. In conclusion, I seriously believe that discrimination is a kind of crime that needs to be solved because it produces hard damage to the people, although we can’t see any wounds.

Discrimination is a way of considering other people lower than you because of sex, race, religion or class. It is caused by the society so the discriminated person has two options: isolating or forgetting it. So, may do we consider discrimination as a crime? Personally, I don´t believe it is a reason for jail, but we would define it as a minor offence. As far as I´m concerned, discrimination is not a crime, but it should be punished with social work and learning that everybody has same duties and for this reason all the people are equal. Furthermore, people who receive this offence can have psychological problems because of insulting, hitting or bullying an it can cause lifelong depression. In conclusion, I definitely believe that discrimination is a minor offence based on a few respect to others that is imposed by parents. For this reason, it is a hard problem that a society has to fight to eliminate.

Discrimination against other people is a crime. Although in many countries and for many people discrimination against other human beings is not conceived as a crime, I totally disagree with those people, mainly because I consider discrimination as one of the worst crimes. Every act in detriment to a fellow man has to be considered as a crime, basically, because of the victim’s suffering. Discrimination causes serious wounds in people, both physical injuries and psychological wounds. Moreover, the vast majority of victims need to enroll in therapy groups, a fact that shows the importance to not let the culprits off the hook. Unfortunately, despite the great efforts made to end up discrimination, it still exists and, furthermore, while I am writing this opinion essay, many people all over the world, from children to seniors, are being offended, abandoned, and discriminated. All in all, I strongly believe that discrimination is as bad as killing a person, so punishment need to be toughened up. Although social campaigns are a good way to tackle discrimination, we must be aware of the importance of help and respect among us.

It is true that some people believe that they are superior to others just by a matter of sex, religion, race or even skin colour. Nevertheless, I have been educated on respect and tolerance; therefore I firmly believe that nobody should be discriminated. As it is clearly defined by the ethical concept of “citizens of the world”, every human being, merely because of the fact of having this condition, deserves being treated in a way which does not hurt their dignity. Bearing this in mind, discrimination is an offence towards someone´s integrity and, for this reason, it ought to be considered as a crime, an evil act. To sum up, I am concerned about the fact that we, humans, are all equal, as it is stated in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Consequently, I condemn discrimination of all types, considering it a serious offence.

against other people Discrimination against other people is a crime

Discrimination against other people is a crime

Most people are against considering discrimination a crime. But, would those people feel the same about it if they were the ones being discriminated? Obviously not. I personally believe that everybody should be treated as equal and that by forcing laws against discrimination we can help to put an end to it. I definitely agree with the idea of making discrimination a crime. Everybody in this entire planet is a person, and as people, we have the same rights and laws, even if we are from China, Spain or Australia. However, there are some who feel superior to others and believe that they are more powerful and that is the reason why they discriminate against others. Well these ideas and the damage caused, have to consider crime. To eradicate discrimination, we should force this bad people to pay fines, or go to jail. As a result, the number of people who discriminate against others and people who are discriminated by others will decrease significantly. To sum up, I seriously believe that, although most people don´t believe discrimination is a form of crime, we must consider it as one, because no one likes being discriminated and we must stop it.

The majority of people agree that discrimination should not exist in our present society in terms of equality and human rights. However, there are some others who totally disagree up to the point of cold-shouldering the ones that have a different race, religion or even sex. Is it fair? Personally, I don´t think it is and I feel strongly that discrimination should be considered as a crime because if not, nothing would change. I definitely agree that in these times social exclusion could not be a problem. Firstly, not only related to immigration but also related to different ways of thinking. We have laws opposing crime, discrimination and racism. This is because people have fought against these things in the past and succeeded in getting laws passed to prevent them. It seems to me that it could be an underlying problem in the past but now, we had better consider other people as ourselves, so that we can get along and build a place where everyone can feel well and fulfilled. In conclusion, I seriously believe that, although the situation could be worse than now, no intervention at all can´t be a solution in the long term. It is clear that punishing discrimination could always be both an effective and possible solution. As a result, the government body should begin taking this topic a bit more seriously and try to find ways of resolution.

By Alejandra Pérez 2º B

‘Discrimination against other people is a crime’ The majority of people agree that discrimination is a crime and should be punished. Nevertheless, despite this general feeling, are we really concerned about its spreading in every area of our society? Personally, I don’t feel that, and I really believe that legal actions ought to be taken to fight this particular kind of crime. I definitely agree that there are many ways of discriminating others, such as skin colour, height, weight, nationality, personality… Mistreating someone causes emotional pain, which could be even worse than physical harm; however, in spite of the consequences of discrimination, it is not always considered as hard as other types of crime and it is not fairly judged. To sum up, I seriously believe that every action that causes pain to other people is a crime and it should be fought not only by official institutions but by single citizens who want to create a better world. Discrimination against others is a crime

Discrimination against other people is a crime

Crime is a mayor problem in the world. When Reading a newspaper or watching TV, it is impossible not to hear about murder, robbery or violent acts, but, is discrimination consider as one of those? Personally, I believe that it is. Crime not only implies physical violence but also psychological.

We live in a globalized world where diversity of races, religion or ideologies is growing everyday. This situation may trigger discrimination. But is discrimination a crime? I strongly believe it is. The majority of people agree with my opinion, although there are a group that do not. I really feel that every human is equal to others and nobody has the right to discriminate people. I totally agree with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at that point. As I see it, any attitude that goes against these rights is a crime. In short, it seems to me that discrimination should be considered and punished as a crime because we are all citizens of the same world. As far as I’m concerned, neither physical appearance, nor intellectual matters are reasons to treat someone in a different way.

In general, society treats people differently, depending on their capacities, sex, and race… and as a consequence, in many cases, it separates the world instead of uniting it. Furthermore, discrimination is considered by many experts as one of the most harmful crimes, because it takes our dignity away and also could change our personality; therefore, many teenagers who suffer this can be lead to different problems as bulling, anorexia, lack of selfesteem…

By Mónica Rubio 2º B

To sum up, I seriously believe that although it doesn’t imply physical violence, it could also hurt people’s feelings. So if we want to develop our world, there must be equality among all of as, because it is clear that we all have the same rights and obligations no matter race, social condition, sex… By Coral Martínez 2º B

However, one day she forgot her hood at house, so when her mother realized was very late. It was night and there was full moon. She ran as fast as she could, but when she went to the grandmother´s house, there was a wolf. But he wasn´t a normal wolf, it was her daughter, who she had became a wolf man. Once upon a time, a man called John lived in Washington . He was an important archaeologist because he had found lots of important treasures all around the world. He was very famous and he was one of the most admired figures in his field.

One day of December he was at the Congress library looking for information about some ancient civilizations when someone started to talk with him. It was an old man who was wearing an elegant suit. The old man told him that he had a map about an old treasure. John, who knew a lot of information about that particular treasure, asked if he could see the map. The old man accepted to give the map to John but just when he was handing him the map he suddenly died. John, who didn´t know what to do, started to run away with the map. When he arrived home, he looked at the map and he saw that it was an old map that showed the location of an old treasure in Peru. John decided to travel to Peru and when he arrive there he started to look for the treasure. In Peru, John travelled to different cities in order to find out more information about the treasure. He arrived to a small village where he talked to an old man who knew information about the treasure. The old man told him to enter the jungle and follow the map because the treasure was an ancient village. He did what the old man said and two days later he found the ancient village. It was a village with lots of pyramids and temples. In one temple he found a big treasure so he decided to talk with the authorities of the country in order to report his finding.

What a medley! Once upon a time in a small village lost in the countryside, there was a young girl nicknamed Little Red Riding-Hood, because of a garment she wore. A sunny morning she decided to go out for a walk, but what she did not know was how special that adventure was going to be. Firstly, she waved at her neighbours, who were seven dwarves and a young woman whose skin was as white as snow. Then, a small rabbit appeared from nowhere and started shouting: “I shall be late!” Secondly, she was nearly run over by a carriage that looked like a pumpkin and found a shoe in the middle of the street. Later on, she saw a wolf blowing at a house, where a conceited lady was asking her mirror who the most beautiful girl of the kingdom was. Finally, she met an old woman who held a red apple and a talking cricket who told her that everybody lived happily ever after. The key

Family

It all began when I found an old key at the back of a kitchen cupboard. I was cooking when the cupboard fell off an l found that strange key. I didn´t know the used of that because the cottage house where l was spending a fantastic days with my family, there wasn´t any lock. The mysterious of this key was thought by all my family. We said many possibilities but no one knew which was the right one. Suddenly, my brother knew the answer, they told us and we followed him to the garden where there was a tiny house to keep the tools. But the key didn´t work. Three days later, l was at the library of the house when l took a book and suddenly, l saw that behind there was a box inside the wall. I was so excited because l knew that the key could work this time. So l tried to open and the key successfully worked. I told everyone that l solved the key´s case and when we saw what was in there, we were surprised. There were photos of the nineteen century. My family was annoying because they expected other kind of things. However, l am trying to find out who is the person of the photos so I won´t sleep until find it.

Cold drops of sweat are running down my temples, and the armchair starts to feel unconfortable. The sound of the clock fills my ears, it a quarter to one.

She died a year ago in weird conditions and I took all the responsability of the house. She was very appreciated in town, and in the family he loved her the most as she had been his guide almost all his life. When the investigations were over and nothing came out to explain the unusual death our hopes fell apart. Her loss made him unstable, gloomy, badtempered and aggresive; despite the good education he got, he ended up in a group of radical and violent people. You wouldn´t have expected him going into drugs, but I had to pick him up from the police station a couple of times, and after that, they didn´t let him leave with me, so they took him to a medical hospital in the main city. He finished a six months rehabilitation and I wellcomed him back home. But I noticed he was different, something in his eyes had changed, was it the hospital which had affected him? Or did he know something before being imprisoned? First he met a scruffy guy in a supermarket. Secondly he started to make up every short of excuses to go out, and then I found a packet of cigarrettes under his pillow. Marie would have died again if she had known he was smoking. After a few weeks he became very interested in gardening and bought some tools and a big shovel, although he never touched uncle John´s plants enciclopedia. I guessed he liked the Forget-me-not as bounches of them grew on the back yard. Everything seemed perfectly normal, until a few weeks ago, while doing the laundry, I noticed some red dirty marks on his trousers and shirt; I first thought of tomato sauce but they turned out to be blood spots. The next night I waited awake hidden in the parlor an what a surprise when he went out of the house and arrived two hours later with a big black plastic bag. That mornig a new bunch of Forget-me-nots was liberating its leeves from the earth. I decided it was enough and talking to him seriously I established a curfew at eleven o´clock. But now it´s almost one. I can feel the cold touch of the gun against my leg, and when I glance through a window I become aware of a shadow, it must be him. I walk slowly towards the door preparing myself for the fight, angry feelings arouse when I think he is blood of my blood. When I look through the peephole I can see him carring on his shoulder a frightening man-shaped plastic bag. I pluck up courage and open the door shouting: “What the hell are you doing Dad?” By Alejandro Ruiz 2º A

ries Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess named Victoria living all alone in a kingdom far way. In fact, it was so terribly far away from everywhere that nobody came to see her, and perhaps nobody even knew the castle at all existed. In the mornings, she usually went to sow seeds to her own vegetable path and, in summer, she collected a huge variety of products; in other words, the crop she grew. In the evenings, she usually went to her favorite place, which it was also kind of mysterious: the edge of a cliff that was two hours away walking from the palace. Finally, at night, when she was very tired, she enjoyed chatting with the animals that came to her window. One sunny day, when she was on the brink of beginning her routine, a young handsome gentleman went into her garden. As the princess did not remember the last time she had seen other people, she became very nervous, not knowing what to do. Lately and red-faced, she decided to stick out of the window and ask him what he was doing there. The man of honor answered he had to tell her something important and convinced her to let him coming into her palace. The story is about they fell in love each other, got married and lived happily ever after. THE END

Dreaming awake A long time ago, in an abandoned barn in Mexico, Maria lived with her mother and all their friends, Ronie the pig, Lucy the cat and Augustus the cow, whome she used to play all day with. One day, when Maria went where the animals used to sleep to wake them up, she found out that nobody was in there. There was just a note which said: “Hi Maria, we apologize for not being here today, see you soon.” After reading this, Maria started getting really nervous by thinking that maybe she wasn´t going to see them anymore. So she decided to do something and looked for them in every single place where they could be in and asked about them to every single person she saw. With no answers, at the end of the day, she really needed to go to sleep. But when she went into her house, all her friendes were there waiting for her with a surprise party. Finding Dory. Finding Dory is the second part of the movie “Finding Nemo”. The characters are the same in both films and the vast majority of them are aquatic animals. Nemo, the son of Marlin, and Dory are the main characters. The action happens in the sea and Dory gets lost due to the hugeness of the ocean and her loss of memory. This is one of the possible plots. Every day, Nemo goes to school alone because he doesn’t need his father´s help. After a hard day, Nemo plays with Dory, who is learning too. They are having fun, when suddenly; a black shark comes out of nowhere. The shark astonishes nemo and Dory and when they react, it is too late. Nemo escapes but Dory was swallowed. Afterwards, Marlin and Nemo start to find Dory. Both of them know that it will be very difficult to see Dory again. Nevertheless, the clues given by other aquatic animals will bring them closer to the shark and therefore to Dory. If you want to know the ending, go to the cinema tomorrow. I regret not to give you the details of the ending but my boss doesn’t allow me. I haven’t made up the story, I just inquire for the real plot. I am not completely sure though. Anyway, I highly recommend the movie. By Daniel Samper 2º A

MONEY TO HEALTH OR TO HISTORY? What to do during a stressful period. Exams at schools and universities are not as easy as they seem to be. They demand a high amount of knowledge, such as vocabulary, grammar and ideas related to the subject. The obligation that students have to demonstrate all those things provokes an unstoppable feeling of stress and panic. It´s important to know how to control stress, because if not, the outcome won´t be as successful as we would like it to be. The first method which can help students is a structured revision timetable prior to exams. The organization that we have before a terrible and long week of hard exams is fundamentally important. So we need to make a timetable to make sure we don´t waste time. Studying every day is vital, maybe not for 8 or 9 hours, that´s excessive, but 3 or 4 is perfect to revise what we´ve done during lessons, just to remember everything, not to forget it. Following this method we shouldn´t have to study everything the day before each exam. Knowing what we´re going to do makes us feeling relaxed. The second method should be having time for relaxation and leisure activities, such as listening to music, doing sport, reading… This is probably the most important method. Studying everything, every day and having the feeling that we´ll have the highest marc in our exams is great, but not always if we fail in relaxation. You can know everything, however if you´re really stressed, you´ll fail for sure. We need to remember that there is more to live than exams and as humans, we need to make time for ourselves, for our family and friends. A part of studying we need to live the life, because life is too short and we have to relax to lead to success, spend a little bit of time doing crazy stuff, calling a friend, hanging out with them, going to grandma´s house or maybe going to the cinema and forget about everything that causes us anxiety. In conclusion, success comes when we mix organization and relaxation. We need to study everything every day, but also have time for ourselves and keep our minds free. We have to study Maths for 2 hours, stop to have a little snack or rest and then continue with it or with another subject, but always combining studying and relaxation, it´s the key to success and not being stressed. Facilities in every town are very important. They help people to cultured theirselves, have a healthier life or even communicate with others. But we do not use them as much as we would like to. As far as I´m concerned, local authorities, should spend a lager quantity of money and make the buildings even better so they will make people go to them. Giving money to sports centers is so important. Nowadays people usually eat a lot of fat food and after it, take a really big nap or lie on their sofas and watch TV. People see, to forget about having a healthy life, they are so lazy that they do not go cycling, or running. Spending more money on gyms, making them bigger, with lots of sports facilities will make people come to them and as a result, having healthier people. Museums are very relevant too as knowing what´s happened on your country´s history is important. However, people think that they are so boring, that history is a useless thing in their lives and they don´t visit them. If local authorities gave more money to remodel them, they will make them look more attractive and will finally get more visitors and cultured people. In conclusion, local authorities should give more money to museums because they are essential if we really want to have people who knows a lot about the history of their town, city, country or even the entire word´s history. In the Western world we now effectually have everything we could possibly need. Nowadays the Western world is the most developed area, as a result, we think that we could live without pour countries such as South Africa or Korea, but it is truth? Have we got benefit indirectly? On the one hand, important inventions are designing in our country or others of the Western world. The most important person who are responsible for major decisions and people who are intellectual live in this part of the world. What is more, we are not only developed in technological gadgets, but also in education and health. Furthermore, in this kind of society we are able to find a job and house easier than other Eastern countries. On the other hand, we not only use things that we make, a good example can be clothes or toys, if you see the tag, you can check that is usually made in China, Thailand or somewhere the workers are exploited. In addition, some food such as tropical fruits are collected in this part of the world. As far as I´m concerned, we need Western and Eastern world. Because in both parts we have benefits not only of materials, but also of society. By Cristina Ayuela 2º B

Opinions What do you think about living a week without TV?

Your teenage years are the best years of your life

The majority of people agree that is possible to survive a week without television. Nevertheless, when you arrived home, did you switch the TV on, or was it already on? Did you have dinner watching TV? Personally, l definitely have to admit that television is part of our daily lives. As far as I´m concerned, TV is a way not only to relax watching certain programs , but also to watch the news of our country or others, or to know more general culture about scientific knowledge. We are addicted to TV and this is going to increase over the years, although there are other activities such as reading a book or listening to music that probably would be better. To conclude, I ´m sure that we could live without TV for a week, but some of the consequences of this would be positive and some negatives. Television is a way of life that everybody like it and it could be very difficult to live without there.

The majority of people agree that teenage years aren’t the best period of their lives. Nevertheless, despite this general opinion, your responsibilities don’t decrease with age and adult life is harder because of them. So is it better than being a teenager? Personally, I don’t believe it is and I definitely agree that teenage years are the best. I feel strongly this period is a time between adulthood and childhood so teenagers can have the best of both worlds. They have to study to prepare themselves for the real world but they have a lot of fun and they are young enough to see life with an optimistic point of view. However, they have a lot of freedom too because they needn’t work and they get money from their parents. Consequently they can enjoy their hobbies, discover the world… To sum up, it seems to me that being a teenager is more comfortable and easier than being an adult. They don’t have a definite life so they have all the opportunities, therefore teenage years are the best period of anyone’s life.

Speed cameras are not a good way to make our roads safer. Generally known as RADAR, speed cameras are a recently invent with the purpose of making the roads safer. There are progressively more of them and more accurate. However, despite of the good goal they try to reach, I completely believe that speed cameras are not a good way to make our roads safer. The most important fact it is that speed cameras force people to slow down. This jam on the brakes causes accidents and only to not be fined. Another thing to have in mind it is that we stop paying attention to whatever is happening on the road because we search for future radars on the mobile phone or GPS. All the distractions causes more accidents and deaths. Moreover, the vast majority of the deaths are innocent people and this results reveal the necessity of finding a new way to tackle this problem. To sum up, I personally think that the government uses speed cameras as a way to get money. I also consider that the best way to make our roads safer is to make people be aware of the dangers and seriousness of using cars, motorbikes… By Daniel Samper 2º A

Damage to the environment is an inevitable consequence of worldwide improvements in the standard of living. Development like way to improve our standard of living has been controversial for decades because it causes serious damage to the environment. Some people think it is necessary to keep looking for ways to improve the lives of everyone. Nonetheless, others argue that our lives are based on nature and we can’t destroy it or injure it. For environmentalists, nature is the best thing that people have because of that we can live and because it gives us life. So, it is very important to take care the environment. Furthermore, we must look out for environment because we can have a lot of risks if we don’t. However, we should consider both sides of the argument. Improving the world and the standard of living of everyone is so useful to remove the disadvantages that nature has, like diseases, or make advances to discover the world to have more knowledge about it. On balance, the important thing is to improve living conditions of everyone and development to discover all we can about the environment, without forgetting to care about nature. As I see it, damage to the environment will continue to be part of worldwide improvements in the standard of living. By Andrea González 2º B

Genet Genetic testing is a good thing The field of genetic testing is rapidly expanding. Some people claim that today we live in a very technologically advanced society so we should take advantage of that. However, others argue that numerous ethical issues are arising, within genetic testing, such as privacy issues, the potential of discrimination, how to convey the information properly. On the one hand, this Project would be very expensive, so only a few could afford it. Moreover those who can, could have problems if they received a positive genetic test because it can lead to an increased level of anxiety and they may feel guilty for having potentially passed alteration on their children. On the other hand , there are many benefits which can arise as a result of genetic testing. Individuals identified as carrying potentially genetic alterations can receive regular check-up. This can lead to a reduction in cancer incidence and mortality. Furthermore, newborn screening can identify genetic disorders early in life, so treatment can be stared as early as possible. On balance, every advantage is welcome, as long as we used it for good purpose, because I feel strongly that in near future this will save many live. By Coral Martínez 2º B

Genetic testing

Genetic testing is a good thing

Since Mendel enunciated his laws, many breakthroughs have taken place in Genetics, from crossing over in meiosis to genetic testing, which has lately aroused controversy. Furthermore, some people believe that it is better to leave things as they have been naturally created, while others see in science an instrument of improvement. Some surveys have shown that a considerable amount of the population that lives in the most developed countries is still reluctant to the use of genetic testing. The causes of this behaviour could be found in fear, personal beliefs or even in ideas related to religion. Nevertheless, genetic testing is a tool that could perfectly help humans foresee and diagnose possible future illnesses that a specific individual may develop. To sum up, I consider genetic testing a good technique that could serve and ameliorate medicine as long as it is set on an ethical basis, boosting positive, never negative eugenics.

Genetic testing has been controversial for decades, and opinions are still divided. Some people think that genetic testing can improve the quality of life and reduce the risk of suffering from diseases in the future. However, others argue that manipulating genes means going too far and implies many ethical problems. On the one hand, every breakthrough that is made in human health involves many ethical problems; human beings have rights and not respecting them is a crime. Manipulating genes can create a group of super humans and introduce a new way of discrimination in our already unequal society. On the other hand, being able to reduce the possibility of suffering from certain illnesses in the future is very positive; it allows people to live longer and happily, minimizing the cost of national health care because the population would be healthier. On balance, I consider genetic testing a good thing as long as it respects human rights and it is made to help the humanity.

testing

Genetic testing is a good thing Genetic testing is a medical diagnosis that provides information about possible genetic diseases. Some people see genetic testing as a way to improve their lives. Others argue we should not explore it because it will have negative emotional consequences. One of these emotional consequences is the anxiety that people develop when they realize they are prone to have a genetic illness. Therefore, there are people who choose to live in ignorance. However, test results can point a person in the right direction regarding available prevention and treatment options. Genetic disorders can also be identified early in life so treatment can be started as soon as possible. From my point of view, test results can help people take decisions about managing their health care. Nevertheless, I also understand the opinion of the ones who disagree. By Mónica Rubio 2º B

GENETIC TESTING Genetic testing has been controversial for decades. Some people claim that this may promote discrimination while others argue that as long as it prevents genetic malformations, it is justified. The fact is that it enables finding out genetic disorders before they develop in order to prevent the appearance of new illnesses. Thanks to this thousands of illnesses have already been caught in time. This is the case of cancer. However, if we consider both sides of the argument, it is important to mention the social integration problem genetic testing might cause. Having your genes modified may make people underestimate your value as a real human and compare you to some kind of monster.

GENETIC TESTING IS A GOOD THING Genetic testing has been a bone of contention in the last recent decades since important scientific breakthroughs discovered make possible these laboratory procedures. Some people think that it has the capability of improving and lengthening human life. However, others argue that it is unethical for us to dabble into the genetic realm like this. Issues such as Health insurance, privacy or employment should be considered when having genes tested. For instance, if employers know of an applicant who is susceptible to a serious deadly disease, they could most likely search for another candidate who is perfectly healthy. Furthermore, those who are against genetic testing, also bear the weight of their opinion in the injustice of charging higher premiums to someone who has the potential to contract a life-threatening illness. However, we should consider both sides of the argument. Some experts advocate that if used in an ethical manner, genetic testing can eliminate unforeseen suffering and distress. Information can always still prove useful even if there is no treatment for the disease you are highly probably diagnosed to develop, above all, in terms of procreation. As far as I am concerned, according to geneticists, it has been proved that the early detection of illnesses means the possibility of preventive measures such as changing current habits like overeating or smoking. However, I realize that genetic testing is still under a cloud and we do not know yet all the pros and cons it will lead to. By Marta Álvarez 2º B

On balance, I support genetic testing and at the same time, I would modify the way in which children are taught some basic behaviour towards life. However I realize that while changes are not done, opinions will still divided. By Inés Ortea 2º C

Genetic testing is a good idea Nowadays more and more people are investigating about biological issues related to improving our lifestyle such as creating new organic food or preventing illnesses. However, others argue that as long as it has many advantages it also has side effects on the future. On the one hand, genetic testing will develop in a way where it can create the “perfect man” who is provided with the best qualities, so it may replace normal human being. Moreover, companies can have this research of each person. Consequently, they only will hire the best genetic testing. On the other hand, genetic testing must help to prevent illnesses and control the diseases such as genetic ones or harmful ones like cancer. In addition, science can develop in this genetic testing and find new medical breakthroughs. On balance, as far as l´m concerned, genetic testing has more advantages than drawbacks. Nevertheless, we must have some limits because it can be used to damage aims. Furthermore, we don´t know if it has side effects. By Cristina Ayuela 2º B

Genetic testing is a good thing

GENETIC TESTING IS A GOOD THING Genetic testing can confirm a suspected condition, c.e, and important disease and determine person´s chance of developing or passing it. Some people argue that no person should know if they will have any kind of illness because they would live to worried. However, others believe that, if you know it, you will live every day of your life as it was the last one. On the one hand, for some people having the knowledge of what type of diseases they will have in their live, boost them to take the advantage of every single moment of their lives, such as doing activities they have never dreamt of and trying to figure out how to treat their disease. On the other hand, others claim that living without knowing your future is much better, with no worries about what will happen tomorrow and just live the life calm and relax. They prefer to live every day as a normal day, with their corresponding tasks, work schedules, activities and moods. As I see it, being conscious about your future, and specially about your future diseases is a completely mistake, because you reduce your life to a limited period of time full of stress and anxiety of not leaving anything to live.

The development in genetics allows humans to diagnose possible illnesses we could pick up in the future. Nevertheless, this improvement is being used by companies for the purpose of detecting future unhealthy employees. Nowadays, money moves economy and, due to this fact, many companies are beginning to make genetic testing to the people that have applied for a job. Although it seems to be a good thing, they make these tests to avoid having sick employees. The healthier, the easier to take on a business. Furthermore, the people that are more likely to be ill in the future need money to treat their disease, so if they do not work, they do not earn money. On the other hand, genetic testing shows accurate information about someone’s health. Hence, people are aware of every illness they could catch in a near future. Moreover, they are in time to start a treatment which facilitates their defence against the disease. Another thing to have in mind is that these people would be capable to confront the illness, reducing the number of deaths. All in all, as far as I am concerned, genetic testing is a good thing, partly because we can prevent sickness and continue living. Besides, it would increase life expectancy. Nonetheless, if the vast majority of companies introduce it, they should not use genetic information to sack or not hire people.

Some people agree that genetic testing is a good idea to detect diseases and anomalies. However, there are some others who suggest that it is ethically incorrect. Personally I definitely feel that it is the best way to get to know the sequencing of the human DNA deeply. It is said that people who know their DNA tend to modify details of it that don’t like such as the color of the eyes and simple things that change their anatomy. This can be considered incorrect for future generations although it is possible because of the breakthroughs that are having. Some others believe that despite having these ethical problems, it is a reliable way to take a closer look of the human genetic. It seems to be favorable in order to make a diagnosis of mutations, illnesses, etc. For that reason, it is definitely advantageous. To summarize, I completely agree with the idea of using genetic testing to identify problems in genes because it is much faster and easier. I strongly feel that we need to take advantage of technology and we should carry out with these discoveries.

What do you think about educating children at home?

HOW MUCH IS INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS AS A MUSIC STAR DUE TO IMAGE AND GOOD MARKETING RATHER THAN THE MUSIC?

The majority of people agree that children should be educated at the school and never at home. Nevertheless, despite this normal distribution, the number of children who don´t go to school is shocking, not only because of the impossibility that exists in African countries but also because there are still parents who prefer teaching them under their rules. Personally, I don´t think it´s the best way and I feel strongly that schools keep going due to all the advantages they have. I definitely believe that nobody would argue that contacts between children of the same age are very important for bringing your child up. In addition, children need space to run and make noise, to jump and cry, activities which are not appropriate in places where it is possible to bother neighbors or residents of the same town. Consequently, kindergartens are built in places where children have all the space they need. In conclusion, I seriously agree that carrying your children to a kindergarten is almost an obligation because it seems to me that it involves many more pros that cons, and in the long run, children will be grateful both because of their friends and their personality. Is the internet bad for young people?

Nowadays, there are lots of music stars, who are singing great hits and are famous worldwide. The question that it arises, is the image and good marketing that makes them famous or is it the music? First of all, it is known that we are more easily attracted by the beautiful people, so being beautiful could really help someone be famous. In addition, the stereotypes that exist today want almost everyone who is famous in the music world to be gorgeous. Moreover, it is really important that for their producers to launch a good marketing campaign; otherwise, no matter how talented someone may be it would be really difficult to get noticed. We should not forget that in most cases the media are those who make someone famous or bring them down. On the other hand, the singer also needs to be talented. If the singer or the musician is not at all talented, they might be famous at a first glance, but when their fans go to see them live, they will understand that they are not as worthy as their reputations are. Furthermore it is likely that neither any producer will want to have them as client, because they do not see the point of trying to change someone who is completely untalented into a star. As far as I am concerned, it seems that actually if anyone wants to be a music star, they do not only need to have the right connections or both to be beautiful and cool enough, but they also have to be skillful and well qualified.

The internet has stirred up the entire world. Now, many people are able to get what they want using computers or other appliances. Nevertheless, the internet can be dangerous for those who do not use it correctly. Using the internet implies spending time in front of a screen. This fact can produce illnesses such as short-sightedness. Another thing to bear in mind is that there are “Hackers” that use the internet as a way to get personal information to steal people. It is very easy to click the wrong button so we could be in danger. Furthermore, people, generally teenagers, can be playing online games for hours and so that they forget to do their chores as studies. However, the internet allows people to get information about whatever they want. Now, research is much easier than before and it is also very fast thanks to the wireless access or new systems. Moreover, people can continue being in touch with their friends regardless of wherever they are. Also, the internet is taking the place of the press (newspaper) since people are informed immediately about the current news of the world. To sum up, as far as I am concerned, internet is possibly one of the best inventions of the mankind. It has so many advantages and, also, it globalize, I mean, that the internet connect countries and people. Nonetheless, we should be aware of the dangers of browsing the net.
