PROFILE: As a senior studying Interior Design at Anderson University in South Carolina, I am currently seeking a position at a design firm through my strong working knowledge of both architectural and graphic skills. My utilization of knowledge in architectural and graphics programs allows me to present a number of skills which would be helpful in the design setting. My body of work consists of both professional and educational projects, with a focus on commercial design and excellence in creating both aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Within the design community, we are given the opportunity to express our individuality and foster the growth of people within their built environment. As Julia Morgan once said, “Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings speak for themselves”. I feel as though the forms and space within an environment create the visual and physical places for patrons to use and see the space. These factors create an ebb and flow of how one might move through a particular space, and therefore give dimensionality to the finished work. It isn’t just about creating something beautiful, but about something that functions just as easily, and in these ways, designers are able to guide the users of these spaces in ways that would never have been imagined. Drawing inspiration from nature, observation and other factors seen in day to day life, I feel as though that I am able to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also serve purpose to everyday users. When beginning a project, I see research as a key tool in the investigation and understanding of how spaces work and interact with one another. This information creates a jumping-off point that allows me to dive deeper into the details and subtleties that each typology is presented with. While working through the schematic phase of a project, I utilize the skills learned during my foundation of design courses to offer up creative solutions that fit the needs of specific projects. As the design progresses into the design development phase, I am able to continue to fine-tune the details and see the forms and shapes come together to create a cohesive design. Additionally, I find it so important to continually rework areas that may not have turned out as well as I once thought. Design is about being open to change, both in your physical work and personal mindset; taking inspiration from the world around you and turning it into something great. Design allows me to utilize creativity, technology, sustainability, technicality, and other resources into the built environment. It gives me a better and deeper understanding of the world around me; how people work, interact, and move in spaces that have been designed rather than decorated. Design is something that some look down on and some give praise to, but no matter how big or small, design is always important.

Utilizing skills such as organization, communication and collaboration, I was able to create a number of 3-D renderings that focused on commercial and industrial projects, starting in my sophomore year of high school. Technical skills included the use of AutoCAD, Trimble SketchUp, Twilight Render, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

During this required internship between Junior and Senior year, I was able to continue to work on and develop commercial skill-sets that improved upon the skills learned with the classroom environment. Technical skills included the use of Revit, AutoCAD, Trimble SketchUp, Twilight Render and the Adobe Creative Suite.

During this additional internship experience between my Sophomore and Junior years, I was able to build upon the foundations of interior design in a residential setting, rather than a commercial environment. GROWTH SENIOR YEAR 2015 CONTR AC T DESIGN II [ID 453]

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Typology: Institutional Square Footage: Approx. 120,000 sq. ft. Within the United States today, there are nearly seven million persons that are under the supervision of adult correctional systems, including, but not limited to; probation, parole, jail or prison (U.S. Department of Justice; Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2014). With such a high number that has continually climbed since the establishment of our correctional systems here in the United States, many individuals have pondered the reasons why such a trend continues. The answer lies within our dealing with these criminals, both psychologically, and through their built environment. Looking at progressive countries such as Norway and Austria as inspiration, we see low numbers like 20 and 14 percent, respectively due to their beilief about the well-being of all citizens. “All persons deprived of their liberty shall be treated with humanity and with respect for the inherent dignity of the human person� (Organization of American States, 2008) Utilizing the various techniques described within both the Norwegian and Austrian Prison Systems, a space that full envelops their ideas on both psychology and the built environment shall be created.

TOVARSCHI CITY CLUB SENIOR YEAR 2015 CONTR AC T DESIGN II [ID 45 2]

Location: Moscow, Russia Typology: Hospitality Square Footage: Approx. 21000 sq. ft.

With some of the most prominent business figures and companies located in the heart of Europe’s largest metropolitan city, Russia’s Moscow capital is the prime location for a business centered city club to be placed. As Russia’s economy continues to improve, it is important that interior spaces are renovated and formed to create an aesthetic that promotes the new ideas of Russian culture, while also preserving the proud history that is held dear to the inhabitants hearts. Named the tallest building in Europe, Capital City, Moscow Tower is one of the most recognizable forms along the Russian skyline, with cubist inspiration found within the architecture and curvilinear forms found within the structure of the building, creating a stark contrast between the two ideas. In addition it was also one of Russia’s first sustainability constructed buildings when it was created in 2010, and lives up to some of the strictest European codes in its actual structural integrity. Using this space as inspiration, Tovarschi City Club was created with these ideals in mind.

HERMAN MILLER SHOWROOM SENIOR YEAR 2015 CONTR AC T DESIGN II [ID 452]

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina Typology: Showroom & Apartment Square Footage: Approx. 3000 sq. ft.

Due to its close proximity to Charlotte, North Carolina, a well-known design district specializing in sustainable and environmentally conscious design directives, Mecklenburg County was selected as the desired location for the new Herman Miller Showroom, which will feature both Herman Miller products, as well as its subsidiary companies and others that it works closely with.

The primary initiatives which have been set for this space includes education to both clients and staff on products, collaboration between staff and client, and engaged discussion to allow for thoughtful selections that are tailored to the specific needs of individuals. Using integrated technology, both portable and stationary, these various goals are able to come to fruition. Overall, this space seeks to educate individuals and allow them to see the various applications of furnishings, finishes, and other various interior selections.

HERMAN MILLER SHOWROOM SENIOR YEAR 2015 CONTR AC T DESIGN II [ID 45 2]

Skills Utilized: Revit 2015: Used in the production of a built model, allowing for furniture and other components to be placed to create a two and three dimensional understanding of the space. Google Sketchup and Twilight Render: Utilizing Trimble Sketchup and Twilight Render to both import and model complicated models, as well as render the various images, a base was created to use markers and pencils on top of. Hand Rendering: Utilizing both Prismacolor Markers and Pencils, a hand drawn image was created that adds a dynamic approach to the more typical digital renderings done through Revit. Adobe InDesign CC: Used to create the board layouts and other various documents, which were included during the completion of the project.

SHARED SPACES SENIOR YEAR 2015 CONTR AC T DESIGN II [ID 45 2]

Location: Portland, Oregon Typology: Community Center Square Footage: Approx. 3,500 sq. ft. A sustainable, lively and engaging space which educates individuals within the community about interior designers and their work will be created in the heart of Portland. This space is to be an example of how sustainable interior design can influence ecology and community through the use of green techniques and practices such as: daylight harvesting, solar, wind, and hydroelectric energy harnessing, and the implementation of sustainable materials and finishes. This space works with the community to lower carbon emissions and reduce the overall heat island effect of Portland. An open plan, versatile furnishings and the integration of technology will help these individuals to meet, learn and collaborate for and within the community. This project was submitted by both myself and another group member, and won amongst the southeast region and has been submitted to the national level.

PEAK FITNESS JUNIOR YEAR 2015 COMMER CIAL DESIGN II [ID 35 4]

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado Typology: Fitness Center Square Footage: Approx. 5000 sq. ft. Focusing on the generation of photo-realistic quality renderings, and other finish work, this project builds upon the initial foundation of Revit skills found in previous projects. In order to create these finish works, students were required to generate a deeper understanding of Revit software, using the various tools found within the software. Once these initial renderings had been completed, students would have the option to import these images into a graphic editing software, such as Photoshop, in order to aid in their ability to manipulate and detail any additional information. Finally, students created presentation boards using the graphic software of their choice, allowing them to further develop skills in organization, layout, and other various design decisions. These along with final material selections shall help to tweak any remaining decisions.

FINAL CREATIVE PROJECT JUNIOR YEAR 2015 HISTORY OF INTERIORS II [ID 35 2]

Location: Manhattan, New York Typology: Residential Square Footage: Approx. 1000 sq. ft. Located in the heart of Manhattan, a new look on the centuries old Shaker architecture and design style was created. Through the various amounts of research done on the original Shaker community, a number of different elements were able to be incorporated into the design of this space. Using various elements, such as streamlined furnishings, bold wood details, integrated storage, and the inclusion of classic elements such as a woodburning stove, antique lighting and other aesthetic choices, a space that reflects these traditional values and ideas, but also caters to the new and innovative solutions of today was created. Once renderings had been completed, students would have the option to import these images into a graphic editing software, such as Photoshop, in order to aid in their ability to manipulate and detail any additional information. Additionally, a set of completed Construction Documents was created to aid in the construction of this space.

SCULPTURE PROJECT JUNIOR YEAR 2015 BUILDING CODES & SYSTEMS [ID 35 5]

Location: Greenville, SC Typology: Sculpture & Foundation Design Size: Human Scale piece With a newly revitalized downtown area, Greenville, SC has recently gained attention in the Arts District and has begun to incorporate sculptures throughout the downtown area. Using a highly reflective steel material to create a mirror-like surface, a piece of art was created which engages the viewer to think about the past, present, and future of this historic textile industry. Additionally, this project was presented to the Greenville County Art Directors boards as a potential option for incorporating along the Reedy River. With the historic “reflection” that was offered through the pience, as well as the “reflection” of the current and future times, the Council had a number of good things to say about the interactive qualities that had been exuded from the peice . In addition to the artistic directive used during this creation process, technical skills were needed to understand the overall structure and foundation as well.

Skills Utilized: Hand Drafting and Rendering: Used in the production of construction documents and renderings which were presented to the client in order to give a more comforting feel. Model Building: Used to create a replica model which was shown to the client in order to give them a better understanding of how the sculputre would interact with the environment. Adobe InDesign CC: Used to create the board layouts and other various documents, which were included during the completion of the project.

CREATIVE WORKS SENIOR YEAR 2015 CER AMICS I PAINTING I & II

Utilizing the various skills discovered in the art foundations courses at the Freshman level, I began to explore additional art courses during my senior year, focusing primarily on both Ceramics and Painting, in order to broaden my horizons within the art community. While taking these courses, I discovered a new passion for both painting and ceramics, particularly in working with both oil paint and terra cotta clay. My final works that have been created within these courses seriously reflect the education that has been put forth. Not only did I produce a full 4 piece dinner set, as well as two large 24x36� portraits. Utilizing these basic skills, I have continued to pursue my passion for the arts and have proceeded in the education of artistic skills through the enrollment of Painting II and my school’s Clay Club.

CREATIVE WORKS SENIOR YEAR 2015 CER AMICS I PAINTING I & II

Skills Utilized: Oil Painting: Based on the foundation learned throughout Painting I, oil paint was used to create two portraits of family members. Leo was the preliminary study to explore the use of greys and experience the accuracy of my values, while Violet was the culmination of the utilization of these various techniques. Ceramic Hand Building: Utilizing various tools and techniques taught throughout the course of Ceramics I, I was able to create a complete set of traditional Japanese Dinnerware, from teacups, to dishes, and even chopsticks. These items were created using terra cotta clay, and custom glazes and slips.
