BE FIT FOR LIFE Exercise to Reduce Stress
Exercise is a Proven and Effective Tool for Managing Stress
Exams, busy schedules, deadlines...stress is a fact of life, but consider getting active to help manage your stress load.
Physical activity improves attentiveness and de-stresses the mind. It can also improve your mood and energize your body; doing exercise or any form of physical activity can be therapy. Exercise boosts endorphins which improve our mood and help relax the mind and body.
With weather getting warmer try unwinding by running, jogging, walking or cycling. If you like water, try swimming. Don't have time for 30 minutes of activity at one time? Try splitting the workout into 3 parts, targeting 10 minute bouts throughout the day.
Take a break from all that sitting!
Use your coffee breaks, or lunch break to take a short walk, and bring a friend or co-worker along too. Try a three-minute full body stretch such as neck rotations, arm swings, some seated spinal twists, toe touches or side stretches every hour you sit. It will help relieve stress as well as imporove your posture, reducing neck and lower back pain.
Most importantly, find what you enjoy and make it part of your regular routine. Choose to move more to manage your stress!
