'Tis the Season for Fresh Fruits and Veggies

One of the best parts of summer is the availability of locally grown fresh fruits and veggies! Great places the find them:

-the Lethbridge Farmer's Market on Saturdays at the Exhibition or Wednesdays in Festival Square

-local grocery stores like Urban Grocer, Save-On-Foods, Coaldale Food Market, London Road Market

-U-Pick strawerries are available at Broxburn, or saskatoons at Berg's Berries

-your garden!

Cooking with fresh ingredients make for delicious meals. Get the kids involved with picking the foods, trying them raw and then helping to prepare meals.

Fruit Breakfast - Add your favourite summer fruit to some yogurt. Sprinkle with oats, chia seeds and some chopped nuts.

Garden Greek Salad - Dice some tomatoes, chop some cucumbers, slice some sweet onion, spinkle in some feta cheese and olives if you like them. Splash in a little red wind vinegar and olive oil, mix and enjoy!

Garden Veggie Pasta - Lightly saute your favourite veggies wih some minced garlic, salt and pepper. Toss with cooked pasta, 1/2 cup of reserved pasta cooking water, salt and pepper. Add fresh herbs of your choice, some canned fish or beans and top with some grated cheese.
