CHAIRMAO Notes from the little Purple book of COLFC Chairman, Paul Manning.
Welcome everyone to tonight’s big game (yes it’s another big game!) in the second leg of the Macron Cup Semi Final, against our friends from Manchester Avro FC.
with some of our fans who sang something unsavory to these eight year olds about their drum – so it’s a two-way street. As far as I was concerned it was all good humoured and if we give some stick out in songs, we have to be able to take it as well (especially from schoolkids!!) We all remember how good it felt to win the Macron Cup Semi Final at Chadderton back in 2017 and on that night, we were a 1st Division side and came back from a two goal first leg deficit to take the tie to penalties and ultimately win, so we cannot count our chickens yet. I know that Robbo will be drilling it into the lads that the tie is far from over and we have to gout and perform, or else Avro can and will dump us out the cup! In the league we head to Burscough on Tuesday as we enter the final furlong of the Season. We have five league games in April and with our final league game being Irlam on the 27th, tonight’s cup game is the first of six crucially important games for the club. It would be lovely to book our place in the Macron Cup Final tonight, so that we can then forget about it until May and concentrate on getting 15 points from our final league games (if we end up needing that many!) Anyway, its always OGAAT with me so I am not looking too far ahead. Just securing our place in the Final tonight will be good enough for now.
Last Saturday’s game was a keenly contested affair and Avro had good spells in both halves to get goals, but thankfully we managed to get three in the onion bag and missed a fair few chances ourselves, with three lobs in the second half all going close to extending our lead, plus a header off the line in the 1st half and hitting the bar in the second (Avro also hit the post). It was a very good game of football played in a tough, competitive spirit and there wasn’t a bad tackle to be seen. Even the sending off was a bit unfortunate as it looked like the lad’s foot just hit the top of the ball and on into Jamie’s leg. The set-up at the Vestacare Stadium was great and there is still lots of space for improvements as well, so I expect the Directors will be using that advantage to push on into the NWCFL premier Division next season and probably beyond as well. I’d like to thank Rob & Malc for their warm welcome and assistance throughout the day, everyone enjoyed the hospitality and the match atmosphere. The Avro ultras out sang the Partians at times and whilst a few people moaned that the kids were singing that particular song, I also had to have a word

Your support and atmosphere Saturday was again no surprise, let’s get as many supporters as we can to these last 6/7 games to support these players who have given their all, all season. My job is to prepare and motivate them but it is made easier by your support and the atmosphere you create. It’s a part of the season where sometimes tactics don’t come into it, it’s about showing how much you want it and giving your all as a player and your support will help that for one last push to get us over the line, as like I’ve said before we’ve achieved nothing yet! Our last home game we beat Barnoldswick 2-0 which was a great professional performance I felt we controlled the game and looked strong in our shape and I can’t remember Ben having a save to make. It was a big three points and leaves us with five more league games to go. Saturdays first leg semi final was a great win and we’ve put ourselves in a good position going into tonight’s game. We scored three great goals and credit goes to young Jack scoring a hatrick with his head, which he

avrofc The history of our club begins in the years just before the start of the Second World War. A.V.Roe established an aircraft factory at Chadderton, which was situated in fields at the end of Moston Lane in North Manchester.

After a lot of hard work and lots of meetings on the part of our Chairman Rob Fuller, we were granted a lease on the former Whitebank Stadium in Limehurst Village, Oldham. Again, after an enormous amount of work to bring it up to standard, this has become our new home ground ; The Vestacare Stadium, a hub of the local community and also shared now with Oldham RLFC. In Summer 2017 the new management team of Lee O’Brien and James Hampson took over and along with 1st team coach Paul Armstrong and goalkeeping coach Paul Urbano they led the team to Manchester League Premier Division title, and the Manchester FA County Cup in their first season. The move to the new stadium has allowed the club to pursue its ambitions of Step 6 football in the North West Counties Football League, which finally came about in May as we were promoted into NWCFL Div 1 North on the back of the double win.
The factory would become the home of the famed ‘Dambusters’ aircraft – the Avro Lancaster, as well as the famous Cold War ‘V’ bomber - the Avro Vulcan. A.V Roe purchased a smaller factory in Failsworth, where the Lancaster Club was located. 1936 saw the 16th century Lodge purchased by the AVRO works manager Mr Roy Dobson prior to the company opening their main Chadderton factory. In 1950, the Lodge was opened up to all personnel of Avro and took on the Lancaster Club name. The Grade II listed Lancaster Club then became the clubs headquarters for the next 67 years. We joined the Manchester League in 1954/55 season and won the Division 1 Championship in 1988/89 and re-established our junior teams, but lasted just three seasons in the Premier Division before being relegated in 1991/92. We again won Division 1 in 2003/04 and promotion to the Premier Division, but we were again relegated after three seasons in 2006/07. We bounced back immediately and were back in the Premier Division in 2008/09, where we have been ever since. There followed a period of success with us capturing the Manchester League Premier Division title in in 2009/10. By this time Oldham Council had bought the Lancaster Club

captains notes It was nice to have a bit of a break from the league on Saturday and enjoy a good challenge in the cup. Avro were a good solid team and gave us a good game and we are ready for the game today and know we will have to be at our best to progress to the next round.
we are in we want to win, as a player there is nothing better than winning trophies and we are in a great position to win a couple this season and it excites us as a group that we have a big chance to win silverware this year. I was made up for Jack on Saturday scoring three headers, I said after his first he reminded me of big Dunc but don’t think anyone was expecting him to score another two! But it just shows how good he is and we are lucky to have him at our club. The support on Saturday was unbelievable as always, and we need you more than ever now. We are down to the final hurdle of the season and we are on the verge of doing great things this season and we need your support to get us over the line.
I though we dominated the game on Saturday and could of won by a few more, we played some great football on a pitch that really suited us and some of the goals we scored where excellent. Tonight will be a different game as the pitch won’t allow either team to get it down and play so it will more be more of a battle, but we will give everything to get through to the final. No matter what competition

With the ongoing success of our football for everyone project and our brand-new walking football initiative we are starting to put the wheels in motion for our next scheme, Kits4Kids, a scheme which aims to provide children in the local area with the equipment and kit needed to participate in football. Families are struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their head never mind forking out £40/£50 for a pair of boots every year plus shin pads, kit etc, if you have more than one child you’re suddenly looking at spending a few hundred pounds, and that’s before any subs need paying. An analysis by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) reveals cuts to benefits and tax credits under the Tory government will see children hardest hit, forecasting that around one and a half million more under-18s will live in households below the relative poverty line by 2022. The research, which analyses the
impact of welfare reforms between 2010 and 2018, shows households with lone parents and children are set to lose an average of £5,250 – almost one-fifth of their total net income, compared to a loss of £3,000 for couples with children. This will see the child poverty rate for those in lone parent households increase from 37 per cent to over 62 per cent. These children are of great risk of being isolated and abandoned socially. The life skills learned through football help empower individuals and enhance mental wellbeing, such as increased resiliency, self-esteem and connections with others. These features of football are beneficial to people of all ages, but they are especially vital to the healthy development of young people. We must do more to increase engagement and encourage young people into football, not stand by while they are priced out of the game through no fault of their own.
