There are more beetles in the world than any other insect and there are thousands of different varieties. You can find beetles in hot or cold countries and they come in all colours. Some even have stripes or spots!
Ladybugs come in many different colours but the best known is the 7-spot ladybug with a shiny red-and-black body. Like all beetles, ladybugs start off as tiny eggs that hatch in 3-7 days to become larvae. After a few days they shed their skin and look more like a shrimp. They continue to change until they become the adult ladybug you know.
• Beetles have hard front wings to protect their body. These are often brightly coloured. • Beetles have 2 pairs of wings and use their back wings to fly. • All beetles have 6 legs • Beetles have 3 body parts: head, chest, stomach

Squid are the animal kingdom’s equivalent to a rocket ship. By using a high pressured jet of water, squid become the fastest marine invertebrates in the ocean and can out-accelerate most fish! Some squid can shoot along at over 25 miles per hour. The squid’s sudden bursts of speed make it extra effective at capturing prey or escaping predators. The Squids Jet engine works in a similar way to when you let go of an inflated balloon. It shoots off quickly until it is deflated.
Strength Some species of sq uid can use their jet to bla st out of the water and fly up to 200 meters to escape predators.

Exciting illustrations, fun diagrams, photographs and short text blocks all set within a mad scientist’s laboratory, make this the perfect book for young or reluctant readers. Learning by stealth in its ultimate form.
The squid sucks water into it’s mantle, making it swell like a balloon.
Powerful muscles squeeze the water out of the mantle. This forces a powerful jet of water out of the funnel.

The jet forces the squid backwards at great speed.
Squid can control the direction of the jet to swim forwards. This makes them great at quickly pouncing on prey. The Jet makes squid super effective at hunting.

GHOST Stories
Come on a spine tingling journey through this anthology of ten terrifying stories, based on paranormal encounters that have haunted real people in real places. Read about the infamous Black-Eyed Ghost of Cannock Chase that has been terrifying the forest’s visitors for over half a decade, or about the illusive orphaned ghost children of Newsham Park Hospital trapped for eternity inside the building that used to be a Victorian orphanage. Read at your peril! ‘Tonight the ghost-busters go home disappointed; the evening has been largely uneventful. Tom, a veteran in the group, surveys his camera footage at home. Two hours into the interminable blackness he stares. His blood goes cold. For a fraction of a second an image flickers across the screen that forces all the air out of his lungs and the sound out of his ears. He rewinds the recording and watches again, his heart pounding in his chest. There it is again. Tom jumps up, and with shaking hands plugs his camera into his computer. He waits for the two to sync up impatiently, his breath ragged. The playback box pops up; Tom slows down the footage and peers at the pixelated image the computer screen illuminating his face in a ghostly light. Then he sees it. A white shape, just a few metres away from where they were standing, dashes across the forest so close they should have heard it. His neck prickles and Tom has the overwhelming feeling that he is being watched. His turns his head to the window, but there is nothing but the yellowish glow from the lamppost and a couple of garbage bins on the pavement. He exhales and turns back. Tom squints at his computer screen; despite the poor quality the white form was unmistakably the ghostly outline of a child. You can see the dress rippling as if its legs were moving. Tom has to go back. He glances at his watch, 3.28 AM at least a couple more hours of darkness before sunrise. He grabs his camera and car keys and sets off Cannock Chase.’

Very Naughty Fairy Meet Verity, also known by the other fairies as ‘The Very Naughty Fairy’, not because she’s naughty but because of her favourite saying — ‘That’s very naughty.’ Verity loves to point out when somebody has done something wrong or naughty, but unfortunately it’s usually Verity who has caused the problem in the first place… You see, Verity means truth, and that is exactly what she does, she tells the truth, ALL the time, and it often gets her into a lot of trouble!

Selling Points: Well known / classic stories with a new twist Young reader story with potential for a collectable series

Verity and her friends live in the Magic Kingdom where all of the fairytales co-exist and intertwine. It is the fairies that add all the magic to help good prevail over evil — making sure everyone lives ‘happily ever after!’ It’s a very busy and confusing job with many different familiar stories happening at once. You have probably heard the story of Snow White and how the Wicked Queen, Snow White’s vain stepmother, tried to kill her because she was jealous of her good looks. And you probably know that she often asked her magic mirror “Who is the fairest of them all?” But did you ever wonder where the voice of the mirror came from? Or why the mirror told the Wicked Queen that Snow White was the fairest? (Did the mirror not know the havoc it was about to cause?) Well, if you did ever wonder, then you should definitely meet Verity…

e s o o M Goose Versus
Goose and Moose are fierce rivals who compete at school and everything else. They live on two opposite cliffs across the sea from one another and after school they shout insults from their back doors. Each of them always wants to outdo the other, whether it means winning at a race, or eating the most sweets from the shop – even if it makes them sick. Their parents beg for them to make amends, but neither Goose nor Moose will. Goose moves out in a huff and builds his own house on his side of the cliff; Moose sees this and does the same. With each rival wanting to build the tallest house, neither sees the danger and both houses tilt and topple over into the sea. Stranded on the beach, Goose and Moose find that they must put aside their differences and work together to get back home. When they do reach the cliff top, Goose and Moose discover that though their parents could have helped them out, they wanted their children to see what they could accomplish when they worked together, instead of against each other. With their rivalry behind them, Goose and Moose rebuild one another’s houses and become best friends.
