Rising culinary star, chef Connor McVay, has perfected his skills with the Wolfgang Puck team and now oversees Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air restaurant. McVay has been working at Hotel Bel-Air since 2016, forging his way from sous-chef to his current role as executive chef. His signature dish? Italian burrata with roasted butternut squash, toasted pumpkin seeds, wild rocket and aged balsamic vinegar, served with sourdough bread. Delicious.

‘Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories’ at Skirball Cultural Center delves into the stories behind 300 years of American quilts. The exhibition features works by more than 40 artists including Harriet Powers, Bisa Butler, and Sandord Biggers, celebrating the artistry and vision of a diverse and largely underrecognised group of creators. It brings light to stories that enrich, deepen and complicate our understanding of the American experience. The Skirball’s presentation will feature additional works by Los Angeles artists Sabrina Gschwandtner, Ramsess, and Sula Bermúdez-Silverman, as well as a quilt from its own collection highlighting key moments in American Jewish history.

J. Paul Getty Life and Legacy

A permanent exhibition at the J. Paul Getty Museum tells the story of the man behind the institution’s name. The art collector, philanthropist and business mogul donated much of his wealth to create the arts insti- tution. Renowned as the richest man in the world in the 1950s and 60s, Getty made his fortune in the oil business. Getty’s estate was given to his small namesake museum, along with a remarkably broad directive. The J. Paul Getty Trust was created, the world’s largest cultural and philanthropic organisation dedicated to the visual arts.

Alphonzo Bell was the real estate magnate who founded the L.A. neighbourhood, Bel-Air, named after him. Now the tycoon gets his own namesake at Hotel Bel-Air with the Bell Suite. The suite was Bell’s estate office in the 20s and features the original engraved wooden ceiling. The suite is glamorous and modern whilst steeped in founding history.

Together for Good

In the exhibition ‘Together for Good: Caron Tabb and the Quilting Corner’, the Skirball Cultural Center presents contemporary artist Caron Tabb’s touching work, ‘Fabric of Humanity— Repairing My World’, alongside an all-ages community quilt-making activity.

Pastel Portraits

Highlighting pastels by two of the most important women artists of the 18th century, Rosalba Carriera and Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, a focused installation at The Getty Center features works principally drawn from the museum’s collection.

The first of its kind in America, the exhibition ‘The Space Between: The Modern in Korean Art’ highlights aspects of Korean art from 1897 to 1965 with 130 paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures that show the influx of new media of foreign origins.

Nubia was the ancient region along the Nile and had one of the oldest civilisations in the world. The exhibition ‘Nubia: Jewels of Ancient Sudan’ presents highlights from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s collection of Nubian objects and features jewellery, metalwork, and sculpture exhibiting the richness and glamour of Nubian society.

Henry Taylor: B Side

An exhibition at MOCA celebrates a Los Angeles artist Henry Taylor, widely appreciated for his unique aesthetic, social vision, and freewheeling experimentation. Taylor creates portraits and allegorical tableaux populated by friends, family members, strangers on the street, athletic stars, and entertainers.

An exhibition at LACMA juxtaposes two important events in 20th-century political printmaking: the revival of German Expressionist graphics in response to a nationwide revolution in 1918 and the formation of the Taller de Gráfica Popular (People’s Print Workshop) in Mexico City in the late 1930s, highlighting their common traits and similar subjects.

Bungalow 5 at The Beverly Hills Hotel is the largest of the hotel’s bungalows, and it is one of the most lavish and luxurious. Truly fit for a star, it was once the favourite hideaway of Elizabeth Taylor, and it was here that she spent many of her honeymoons.
