Throughout the years, gun violence in the United States has increased rapidly. Uncontrollable use of firearms have lead to many mass shootings in the United States and elsewhere. Police brutality is becoming a common event and gun related deaths and suicide are occurring frequently, there is basically no gun control in the United States. But former President of the United States, Barack Obama, thinks that the 'Smart Gun' is the key to gun control in America. The smart gun is a gun that can only be fired when the owner of the gun triggers the fingerprint sensor installed on the device. Most shooters use someone else's gun to commit their crime, and that's the goal the smart gun is trying to achieve, to make sure that the gun can only be fired by its owner. Thecontroversy over the smart gun is understood as a disagreement about whether the smart gun will reduce the gun violence in the United States. Some people argue that the smart gun is unreliable and won't do anything to control gun violence; however, others believe that even with smart guns, the owners can easily use their weapon for murder. Another view that some people believe that the smart gun will help control gun violence because of the fingerprint sensors. The stakeholders are journalists of different magazines debating about the smart gun. The main question that the journalists/stakeholders are trying to answer is, "Will smart guns control the gun violence in the United States."

With gun related crimes steadily increasing, the spotlight has been on a solution to cease firearm problems. Firearms have been around for hundreds of years, and they are included in self–defense, sport, show, and unfortunately crime. The danger of the situation immediately escalades when there is a firearm involved. A plan to fix these issues has been talked about and looked at throughout the recent years, but there are many different aspects you have to look at when trying to find a solution for this problem. However, not allgun related situations are at fault, for most people follow the law, using and collecting the guns for sporting, collecting, and self–defense purposes. The second amendment in the constitution gives citizens of the United states the right to bear arms. Areas of concern that can be focused on to prevent future danger in firearm situations are gun control laws, process undergone...show more content...
Some citizens believe in a very strict policy when it comes to firearms, and they merely do not want people in the states to have many rights with guns. They believe that along with more gun control laws, there would be a decline in gun related crimes. Also, they strongly place importance on the benefits of enacting a plan that can stop the use of guns for illegal activity, whatever the cause. Opposing them, are the civilians that relate to guns and use them frequently throughout their life time; therefore, they want to keep the laws enacted with gun control to safe minimum. Some careers would have drastic changes, due to number of jobs related with firearms throughout the communities. These people stress that not all firearms are being used for crimes and controversial situation. All in all, there are two opposing sides involved with the topic of gun control, both state ideas why there should be more emphasis on gun

The issue of gun control has dramatically risen over the last century as the presence of gun associated violence rises. Gun control, in many regions, is poorly conducted and fails to display the proper techniques to enact the laws. People act against these measures because they're dubois about its impact and firmly believe the presence of guns creates an atmosphere of security. Although guns may serve as an accessory to tranquilize one's minds, implementing gun control should be a priority since it would reduce violence and create a safer society.
Gun laws in regions around the world would effectively be displayed through the reduction of violence seen. After Australia responded to a 1996 tourist shooting by enacting gun control measures such as the outlaw of private gun sales and implementation of background checks, they faced a "74% reduction in firearm suicides and a 60% decline in their gun related homicides" (Kaye). Scotland also experienced progress of a "55% decline in gun related deaths and a 44% decline in their gun associated crimes" after embedding gun control into their laws. Nations have undergone changes because they strictly reinforce them rather than passing the laws, and neglecting them afterwards. The effect itself was gradual, but nevertheless, gun measures would ameliorate the violence stirred by guns.
Strict laws for gun control would have the positive effect of lowering yearly crime rates associated with guns. Allowing guns to be within the reach of anybody without any proper training on how it properly functions normally results in fatal accidents. There is an average death rate of 7 children/teens who are accidently killed by a gun on a daily basis. Analysis proves that "89% of unintentional shooting deaths of children occur in the home–and most of these deaths occur when children are playing with a loaded gun in their parents' absence.". Guns stir an unsafe atmosphere for everybody and an abundance of incidents revolving around guns could easily be prevented if people were forced to learn how to properly use one.
Moreover, stricter gun control would theoretically morph the gun battle ground into a safer environment. As illustrated in the political cartoon, gun control
The United States has about 88 guns per 100 people, or 275,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capita number in the world. 22% of Americans own one or more, but that isn't bad considering over 300,000 people use weapons in self–defense. (ProCon.org) Gun laws go back to 1791 when the second amendment was created. Gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership deters crime. The Second Amendment of the US Constitution reads, "A well–regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." If you take guns away from the people who get them legally how will they defend themselves from those who get them illegally and can continue getting guns even after laws are made? Massachusetts is the strictest state for gun laws and they still proceed to ban gun attachments and AR–15'S the things that are never used for crime in places like Mass. Next, citizens say guns are rarely used in self–defense, "Of the 29,618,300 violent crimes committed between 2007 and 2011, 0.79% of victims (235,700) protected themselves with a threat of use or use of a firearm," . Although guns are used for self–defense 2.5 million times a year. The police cannot protect everyone all of the time. NRA Stated "61% of men and 56% of women surveyed by Pew Research said that stricter gun laws would make it more difficult for people to protect their homes and families." Then, gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking laws, it will just stop the people in the right. It's simple that the world we live in is filled with chaos but we need to fight fire with fire. Guns don't kill people; people kill people. And people need more gun education and mental illness screening to prevent massacres. The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute, Inc. (SAAMI), stated, "Whether in the field, at the range or in the home, a responsible and knowledgeable gun owner is rarely involved in a firearms accident of any kind." ProCon.org states the importance of gun ownership in their pro column of the article, "Although, armed civilians are unlikely to stop crimes and are more likely to make dangerous situations, including mass

Gun Control is one of the most controversial topics of the time because of the recent events that make people want to enforce it more or abolish it all together. Adding more Gun Control laws won't' reduce crimes and won't help the crime rate. Criminals will always find their way around laws and get guns illegally and that's not fair to the law–abiding. People think that enforcing the laws more and placing even more laws on guns will will make life safer. However, citizens abolishingGun Control laws would make guns easier to access to people who need to protect themselves against criminals.
Simply banning guns all together would be ineffective, and that is the first reason why banning guns is not an effective way to protect citizens. The Columbine School Shooting is a good example of random people getting guns illegally and going around the system. They acquired their weapons at a gun show and bought them from unlicensed sellers, making the deal illegal. They got these guns from someone who was just selling them like anything else, not knowing the actual consequence of the deal. This shows that people can still acquire there guns from almost anywhere they want, and use them anyway they desire.
Handguns might be the most controversial of all the guns types because they can be easily concealed, and they are the weapon of choice for criminals. The deaths by handguns in the 1990's was 10,561 and most of these were sold legally, and then sold again illegally. The number of

Only one of the two rifles used was bought legally, which means just a single shooting where at least four individuals were shot and slaughtered could have been prevented. Everytown for Gun Safety reports, since 2009 there have been 156 mass shootings, eleven of these shootings were committed by individuals under the age of 21. The NRA favors the 2nd Amendment rights over the lives of people. The sad truth is that Congress is not, and cannot be, responsible for anyone's personal safety. Those responsibilities falls on the hands of state government, people and the communities. When something bad happens that include firearms people instantly blame the NRA, but blaming people is not going to solve anything. People need to focus on the right choices and get people to follow so then the politicians will be have choice but to follow. Under government law, it is unlawful for a person younger than 21 to buy a handgun yet it is lawful for that same individual to buy a assault weapon like the AR–15. People want congress to banned firearms but that won't help or solve anything. There's other ways we can prevent future mass shootings and leave these horrible events to be history. There's things that state government or congress can do to help like increasing the age limit. By increasing the age limit it will make it harder for young adults to obtain a firearm that way they will not put themselves at risk of harming themselves or Get more content
The debate over gun control in the United States has waxed and waned over the years, stirred by a series of mass shootings by gunmen in civilian settings. In particular, the killing of twenty schoolchildren in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012 prompted a new national discussion about gun laws. However, legislation that would have banned semiautomatic assault weapons was defeated in the Senate despite extensive public support. In 2017, mass shootings at a music festival in Las Vegas and at a church near San Antonio have rekindled the gun control debate and invoked comparisons of U.S. gun policies and those of other wealthy democracies.

Gun ownership in the United States is rooted in the Second Amendment of the Constitution: "A well–regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
However, the right is not unlimited. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld some firearms restrictions, such as bans on concealed weapons and on the possession of certain types of weapons, as well as prohibitions against the sale of guns to certain categories of people. The Gun Control Act of 1968 prohibits persons under eighteen years of age, convicted criminals, the mentally disabled, dishonorably discharged military personnel, and others from purchasing firearms. In 1993, the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act mandated background checks for all unlicensed persons purchasing a firearm from a federally authorized dealer.
At the same time, the U.S. Supreme Court has rolled back certain gun laws. In 2008, the court struck down a Washington, DC, law that banned handguns.

School should be a place of peace and opportunity, but gaps in the system of gun control threatens the safety of faculty and students. School shootings have killed a total of 297 lives, young and old (Slate Magazine). Gun control has been a continuous nationwide debate for many years. It seems that no one wants to take a stance against guns unless they are personally affected. In order to take control of the matter and prevent more incidents from continuing schools need to change. To achieve a safe environment in schools need to educate faculty, safe and students, heighten security, and assess mental health issues.

Improvement in security will also contribute to a safe environment. High schools should implement the use of metal detectors as well as random searches. Although, it may be tedious to remove all metal and coins from your pockets, it will ensure safety. This security measure can be specific to each school. An example being to make the checks random throughout the week or only require it for students to have a late arrival. Random searches can also be specified such as only searching lockers or classrooms. Motion sensored cameras can also be a very effective with safety. In many school's cameras are only in the hallways and lunchroom, but what happens when violence occurs in a classroom? All evidence will be based off hearsay. This is not an effective way of assessing the incident considering there are 3 sides to every story. Adding motion cameras to classrooms will make evidence accurate. Not only will student–student altercations be recorded, but teacher–student altercations will be recorded. Security guards themselves should also be improved. Security guards should be posted in hallways upon children arrival, during passing periods, and upon school dismissal. Security guards should also be fit enough for the job. "The results indicated that utilization of multiple security measures reduced the likelihood of exposure to property
Gun control is one of the most talked about topics in modern day America. 43 of 50 states have the right to bear arms. Most states have to background check you in order for you to purchase or sell guns. Some other states prevent carrying guns and some other ban assault rifle weapons. People who support the gun laws say that the second amendment was meant for militias and that gun restrictions have always existed. People who oppose that say that guns are needed for self–defense from people who invade houses or are actual threats. Although both of those are correct, there will always be two sides for control laws. According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), guns are used 2.5 million times a year for self–defense. The police cannot always get there in time to stop the crime in place; so therefore, this is one of the reasons why the gun laws should be less strict. They deny people's safety when an intruder in coming inside of their property. Nelson Lund stated, "The right to self–defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right that grows out of the right to life" and "many [gun control laws] interfere with the ability of law–abiding citizens to defend themselves against violent criminals.(Lund)". Another reason why gun control laws are not a good idea is because gun control laws will not stop criminals from getting guns or breaking the law. Guns would be taken from law–abiding citizens while criminals still get their hands on weapons and completely ignore the law. While that is happening, some people think with gun laws getting stricter, it increases of the control to the government and may result in tyranny. Wayne LaPierre stated, "if you look at why our Founding Fathers the Second Amendment there, they had lived under the tyranny of King George and they wanted to make sure that these free people in this new country would never be subjugated again and have to live under tyranny." With that being said, the second amendment is there because they don't want another tyranny rule again. On the other side, many people believe that there should be stricter gun laws. People say that high–capacity guns should be completely banned because there are too many mass

A world of potential destruction may or may not be preferable to one containing concentrated power to murder a community. Gun control policies, a controversial issue discussed in modern society, can become the difference between the safety and assurance of civilian lives, or a destructive and lethal environment for families. Through multiple researches and debates, conclusions have been expressed on whether or not gun control policies should be preserved, or terminated in communities. Although some believe they are unnecessary and somewhat dangerous for the defense of individuals, others believe that it influences the peace as well as assurance for society. Being a highly evaluated issue in modern communities, gun control includes benefits and costs, with the positive outcomes evidently higher than the consequences. History has proven, that the utilization of gun control has conveyed its rigorous process and development since the idea was created. Different nations have adopted various methods in dealing with the production and use of firearms, including the Second Amendment of the Constitution in the United States, in which people are given the right to bear arms; other nations include Britain, in which the people are capable of having firearms for their defense (Cooper). To enforce peace and reduce mayhem, policies have been created to reduce the implementation of firearms, such as the policy used by the Americans, in which Native Americans were prohibited, or simply the policy that enables individuals to own a limited amount of guns (procon.com). Consequences have abruptly occurred through multiple events of history, in which the nations have developed a more organized idea to prevent occurrences, such as an age limit to which an individual can own a gun, as well as the documentation of the firearm itself (Cooper).Throughout the history of many nations, gun control policies have been created and manipulated to form a better society. Policies which prohibit the output and use of guns, otherwise known as gun control, are necessary in the security and safety of families and individuals of a community. Generally, the violence and consequences of firearms have decreased dramatically through time, as

Many times an over zealous government takes actions that cannot be justified. A good example of this is the Ruby Ridge Incident, where a mans wife and son were killed over a minor firearm offense. Some States have enacted their own laws. Florida has allowed its citizens to carry a concealed weapon. Since this law was enacted the murder rate has dropped by 29%. Over the same period of time the nationwide murder rate increased by 11%. This clearly shows that guns in the hands of law–abiding citizens can prevent crime. In contrast many of our countries major cities have banned all guns. In 1976 guns were banned in Washington DC. Since then the murder rate has risen 400%. According to a CBS poll, 64% of Americans rightfully understand and don't believe gun control laws reduce crime anyway. Gun control is the set of laws and policies a country puts in place to regulate the manufacture, possession, sale, transfer, or use of firearms by civilians. Most countries will restrict the use of firearms with the exemption of those who get a permit. In is estimated that there are about 650 million civilians with guns. The United States civilians account for 270 million of theses guns. That is almost half the worlds guns in one country. At most illegal ownership of guns accounts for 1.4 percent of the total. In most countries holding a firearm is considered a privelidge, in the united states it is considered a right.

During 1996 the new prime minister John Howard of Australia introduced gun restrictions in response to a national crisis that occurred. On April 28th 1996 a twenty eight year–old man named Martin Bryant traveled to the coast off of Tasmania with an AR–15 and an FN Fal. It was here that he took the lives of 35 and injured 22. This was the greatest massacre in Australian history committed by an individual. The public was outraged and demanded that something be done. Within twelve weeks gun legislation was introduced that changed the political landscape of gun ownership in the country.
Howard convinced the states to adopt the National Firearms Agreement. While two of the more conservative states were hesitant, they agreed that this was the direction the country was headed. The statute bans all fully automatic guns, semi automatic guns, self loading weapons, pump action shotguns, and handguns. It makes it so that to obtain these weapons there is a tight licensing process. One could not obtain a gun claiming that they wanted it for self defensive purposes. The permits allotted guns for those who would use them for sport, hunting, and collecting. After this there was a mandatory buyback system in which the Australian government destroyed around 600,000 guns. Buying the guns at market value using money from a levy on income tax, Australia was able to get rid of over half their guns in two years.

There are many issues with Guns as they are the third leading cause of death in children here in America. Many altercations between people of whether guns should be banned or not is always talked about when this concern is brought up. I feel that a proper education system of teaching children awareness of guns can potentially help many Americans save countless of lives. Then additionally, there are not set guidelines as of education for the people and also children to know what to do if they find a weapon and if they are in a situation of an active shooter. If a state were to train children on the basics of gun safety and if active shooter were to happen what they can do to survive the situation. In essence, attempting to figure what can diminish and prevent fatal shootings all through the states is a challenging achievement. Efforts like applying armed guards in public places, metal detectors at schools, and fire arm licenses with extensive background check has done some bit in decreasing gun violence. All of these policies that are mentioned are debated back and forth between citizens that it violates our rights or that guns should be banned in general. An advocate for trying a tougher policy was Barack Obama in his term, he tried to make stricter background check, but he was outvoted because people felt violated of their rights. There is many debates that keep reoccurring and not much of a common ground found to prevent fatalities. Ultimately, this comes down to which solution can fit best between the two groups of those that want guns and those that don't. A solution that can be in favor of both sides is introducing guns into our children education at school. Not an education use obviously, but on how dangerous it is and what mechanisms to identify when they

On an early Sunday morning in March of 2016, a masked man armed with a hatchet and destructive plans walked into a 7–Eleven. He swung his weapon at a customer and the clerk, but was fatally shot by a customer with a concealed carry permit. If the well–meaning customer had been unable to buy a gun, this incident could have ended much deadlier. Gun–control advocates say that stricter gun regulations are necessary, while opponents believe these regulations would be ineffective and unnecessary. Increased gun–control prevents people from feeling safe, it is unconstitutional, and does not decrease gun violence. Guns, or more specifically, who can buy guns has been a majorly controversial topic of debate for quite some time in the United States. According to SIRS Knowledge Source, "Guns have been part of American society since the arrival of the first European settlers." The writers of the United States Constitution even addressed the highly debated topic in the Second Amendment, which guarantees "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms." The gun conflict has also made its way to the Supreme Court multiple times; for instance, in a 2008 case, District of Columbia v. Heller, a gun ban in Washington, D.C. was eliminated.
The possession of guns allows people to feel more comfortable and secure. Many real–life instances have proven that guns usually just help people calm their mind, not act violently. In a New York Times article titled "Why This Professor is Armed," a professor shares an anecdote of a time that there was a strange man who looked like a burglar outside of his house. When he saw the man, the professor's "first instinct was to grab a gun," then call the police. He did not have his gun because he wanted to shoot somebody, but "as a last resort" so he could defend himself if necessary. After the encounter, the professor admitted he may never actually need to use his gun, and says that "We are a planning species," comparing having a gun to buying fire insurance because "most of us will never need it," but "It's what feels rational." People are left defenseless and unable to feel a real sense of security in their own homes if they cannot get access to weapons. Owning guns gives people a sense of security

For these reasons, one can assume the dangers assigned to gun violence will subside with the enactment of
Having lower rates on guns has kept guns out of criminals' hands and weapons like AR–15's out of civilians' hands as well. As of October 8th, 2017, a few days after the mass shooting in Las Vegas; Congressman have rallied together to find a solution to this problem. Some say that the right to bear arms is in the Constitution, but certain gun policies aren't taking effect in United States. With this implemented, Congressmen agree these policies are the answer to their prays. The information discover is agreeable but not what I would suggest being the only thing that the government considers. Mental along with physically results should be examine before disbursing guns. Gun control has been reviewed for a while now and now that this incident has taken place, it makes it more obvious that this issue needs to be address. One of the most heated and debated issues in today's community is of gun control. Lately it has been a problem to many Americans due to recent gun crime, but with new laws it may not only affect those who oppose firearm but those who rely on it for self defense. Society benefits from firearms in the hands of responsible citizens. Attempts to keep firearms away from such citizens does more harm than good. For many years guns have been in our generations through war in the battlefields, in the streets, and even in our backyards. "Now with 270 million firearms registered in the Unites States"(navojotalkersadim 2) to take guns away now will not benefit anyone but create chaos. Citizens have the right of the second amendment that states " A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." This amendment is important for those people who value their protection and security and take things into their own hands. Many americans buy guns as protection against mugging, housebreaking, and assault because they don't feel that the police can protect them at all times from violent crime. Criminals are everywhere and at any moment can enter your home without warning. Having a weapon for self defense would make the victim less afraid and ease any fears they might have. " In the state of Florida 6,000 woman took a course on how to handle and fire a gun. The number of rapes in Orlando decreased by 90 percent that following year and the rates of burglary and assault also dropped"(Geraldine and Harold Woods 54). In many known areas criminals have been frightened off by a possibility of violent resistance and crime has been reduced significantly. It is obvious to say that guns are not for everyone but for those who are responsible to take care of one. Opponents of guns will say guns kill people but in reality "guns don't kill people, people do"(Geraldine and Harold woods 51). "There has been laws that were passed that takes away the right of innocent american people to bear arms because of crimes committed by others. Overpowering the media, firearms have adapted the image of protest signs in a fight for limitation on the weapon's usage. While the right to bear arms is the Second Amendment, stricter gun control should be implemented in America due to suicide gun deaths, the guns per person statistics that connect to the violence, and the public mass shootings that are commonly occurring in comparison to other countries around the globe. In contradiction to what most believe, the majority of gun deaths are suicides. Not always broadcasted in the media, gun–related suicides are extremely important because they represent the reason for gun control.
