A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS Welcome to our third College Gardens newsletter, with all our latest news and information about this outstanding development from the Jersey Development Company.

PROGRESS UPDATE Week 23 of 130 - and at long last spring is on the way and the rain’s stopped! Rok Construction’s site team is currently around 60 operatives and 8 on-site managers. Recent weeks have seen them move into the main building, the new Nightingale House. Rok’s Robert Matthews said:

'Working on an old building is always fascinating, but this project has been particularly rewarding.

To see the years of history peeled back layer by layer, preserved to reveal a unique and stunning building finally coming back to life is very special.’

The building has been stripped of all furnishings and walls, and all the masonry areas are being high pressure cleaned using a Doff cleaning method. Major internal strengthening of the structure is underway, as well as work to replace all the perimeter concrete lintels to the window openings. Perimeter scaffolds are now in place.

– We are now installing the reinforcement to the second floor slab, which was concreted in March, to allow the wall construction up to the roof to begin.

– All the excavations to the building have been completed - what a huge hole!

We are now concreting the basement slabs, installing drainage, concreting and reinforcing all the basement walls.

The ground floor podium slab work will commence in two weeks’ time.

– The excavation for the basement has been completed, buried drainage is underway and the sub-structure reinforcement and concrete works have begun.

– Excavation for the basement is due to start in two weeks’ time. Over the next nine months, we will see a huge increase in labour resource as we will be working on all six buildings at the same time, albeit at different stages so let’s hope for good weather!
