Missions Week at CHCS

I love Missions Week at College Heights! It is a special time of year that our whole student body can be united through involvement and prayer support. This year our 9th-12th graders served in many and varied ways. Upperclassmen traveled to Jamaica, Mexico, and Beverly, KY (“Red Bird Mission”). Sophomores served at Cookson Hills Christian Children’s Home located in Kansas, OK. Freshmen were challenged to service at Ozark, AR and received training from the Youth With a Mission organization. The groups that traveled did everything from scrub toilets to share the Love of Jesus through drama, puppets, and the spoken word. Some students opted to stay right in town and serve in local groups. Those groups this year were Crosslines, Creative Expressions, Hispanic Outreach, Life House, Spring River, and Watered Gardens. Students worked hard – in both practical and spiritual ways – serving the Lord. Some painted, some cleaned, some visited the elderly, some taught children. We pray all were a blessing to those they encountered and in turn, were blessed as well. Middle School students have their very own service opportunities as well. After finishing their standardized tests on Monday and Tuesday, 6th graders cleaned up Cunningham Park in Joplin, and 7th & 8th graders worked at Maranatha Bible Camp helping prepare for the upcoming camp season. In addition, Middle School students encouraged the High School by giving each one a personalized journal for them to record their prayers and experiences in throughout the week. Elementary students love to be involved too! Each preschool through fifth grade student (as well as teachers and staff) received a prayer card displaying a specific high school student’s picture and the group they were serving with, along with suggested prayer points. We asked each one to pray for their specific student. They also showed support by donating muchneeded items to help the groups serve better in their specific projects (food, craft items, candy, hygienic supplies, etc.). Each year we have a theme verse. This year we chose Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens…” That is our desire for Missions Week in a nutshell! We wish to show people God’s love, not just during this one special week, but every day of the year!
