IN THE NEWS Davenport Art Museum Exhibits Work by ISU Architecture Students

An exhibition of work by ISU advanced undergraduate architecture students is on display in Davenport through Oct. 23. “Innovative Objects of Design: Museum Proposals for Columbus, Indiana” opened Sept. 3 at the Figge Art Museum. A public reception, including remarks by ISU architecture Lecturer Rob Whitehead, who curated the exhibition, and Rod Kruse, principal with BNIM Architects, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the museum’s Mary Waterman Gildehaus Community Gallery. Turkish American Society of Iowa Vice President to Share Ceramic Art

David R. Evans, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, will talk about traditional and contemporary Turkish ceramic art and share a selection of works from his own collection in an event Thursday, Sept. 29, at Iowa State University. Evans, who is also vice president of the Turkish American Society of Iowa, will present “Turkish Ceramics from Istanbul to Iowa” at 5:30 p.m. in the ISU College of Design’s Gallery 181. This will be followed by a brief Q&A session and a reception featuring traditional Turkish foods. The event is free and open to the public. [Read more]

Leslie is First Pickard Chilton Professor in Architecture

Thomas Leslie, an internationally recognized expert on the history of technology and architecture, has been named the first holder of the Pickard Chilton Professorship in Architecture in the College of Design. A member of the ISU architecture faculty since 2000, Leslie is an award-winning teacher and author, and previously was an architect with Foster and Partners, one of the world’s leading design firms. DID YOU KNOW? Presidential Candidate Forums this Week

Finalists for the presidency of Iowa State University will be on campus this week to meet with university constituencies, and will each participate in a one-hour open forum. Each forum will include a presentation by the finalist followed by a Q&A period. Students are invited and encouraged to attend the forums and provide comments on the finalists to help the search committee gather as much input as possible in the selection process. You can find more information about the finalists on the presidential search website. The open forum for Kumble Subbaswamy, currently provost of the University of Kentucky, Lexington, will be at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, while the forum for Steven Leath, vice president for research and sponsored programs for the University of North Carolina System, Chapel Hill, will be at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, both in 2019 Morrill Hall. Candidate evaluations will be due by 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26. An online comment form will soon be available on the presidential search site. For those who cannot attend the forums, they will be recorded, and videos will be posted on the search site. Comments still will need to be in by 9 a.m. Monday.
