First Year Experience The First Year Experience (FYE) program is a continuing set of events that will take place throughout the academic year. These events are designed to assist first-year students in feeling comfortable with their new home. PHINS (Peers Helping Incoming New Students) lead tours into the City of Philadelphia, and
faculty, staff, and current undergraduate students introduce new Quakers to departments, resources, and research. To learn more, visit pennfye.com.
First-Year Seminars at the College Freshman seminars are an excellent introduction to academic life in the College, and are highly recommended for first or second semester students. The primary goal of the freshman seminar program is to provide every freshman with the opportunity for a direct personal encounter with a faculty member in a small class setting devoted to a significant intellectual endeavor. Seminars are open to students in all four undergraduate schools. While the seminars are not required, firstyear students in the College find them very helpful in enabling them to envision a level of engagement with a major that they might not otherwise be able to appreciate until they enroll in more advanced courses in their junior or senior years. Please visit college.upenn.edu/first-year-seminars for more information and course selection.
