Student life at Chico State isn’t limited to the classroom. We are nationally recognized for our commitment to community service and engagement, and co-curricular activities give students a sense of belonging, an opportunity to build meaningful relationships, and realworld experiences they’ll carry into their future careers.

Clubs, Organizations, Activities

The University offers over 200 student clubs and organizations, which focus on everything from specific majors and professional associations to religious and cultural organizations. Our Recreational Sports program has 22 competitive club sports teams and our Fraternity and Sorority Affairs program has 34 campus-recognized fraternities, sororities, and culturally based fraternities and sororities. Our diverse range of opportunities allow students from any class level to meet others with similar interests and provide an opportunity to create lifelong friendships, develop leadership skills, and immerse themselves in the Wildcat family. Find out how to get involved at www.csuchico.edu/sll. Each Chico State student is automatically a member of the student union, the Associated Students (AS). The AS offers many opportunities for students to get involved, attend events, run for office, or find meaningful student employment on campus. To learn more, visit www.as.csuchico.edu. Community Involvement

Community is an integral part of the Chico Experience, and many student organizations spend time giving back. For example, students volunteering through Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) (www.as.csuchico.edu/cave) or the Community Legal Information Clinic (CLIC) (www.csuchico.edu/clic) contribute more than 60,000 volunteer hours each year to the North State and beyond. CAVE, CLIC, and other service opportunities allow our students to make a difference in people’s lives and grow into active, committed, and well-rounded professionals and community members. Civic Engagement

Faculty and staff in every discipline are committed to giving students hands-on training and real-world experience in their fields. Whether it’s gaining tax preparation experience by providing free services for those in need or counseling or program coordinating experience by interning at a local nonprofit, students can talk with their advisors or the Office of Civic Engagement, www.csuchico.edu/civic, to find civic engagement opportunities.

The first year at Chico State is an exciting time for students, and can be a bit overwhelming! To support student transition, First-Year Experience courses incorporate High Impact Practices, proven to provide the most benefit to college students of all backgrounds, including higher grade point averages, and higher student satisfaction with their education. These first-year courses fulfill general education (GE) graduation requirements and help students explore their identity and interests, develop successful skills and habits, and make close connections to peers and faculty. They include collaborative and active learning, peer support, and engagement with public issues that challenge students to get involved immediately, not eventually, as scholars and engaged members of the community. Research clearly shows that students who become active and engaged members of the University community in their first year are more likely to make it to graduation than students who do not. National and International Exchange Programs

By allowing students to study at institutions in the United States and around the world, the National Student Exchange and Study Abroad programs prepare future leaders to thrive in our interconnected world. With 85 programs in more than 30 countries, students can explore the world, become more culturally competent, develop a foreign language, and, of course, have the experience of a lifetime. At this time, Summer 2021, Fall 2021, and Spring 2022 programs are scheduled to run as planned. Don’t hesitate to contact us at studyabroad@csuchico.edu if you have questions or would like more information. Also, advisors have established an online calendar that will allow for students to sign up for one-on-one advising via Zoom. If students would like to schedule an appointment with a Study Abroad Advisor and have already attended an Information Session, they can login to Appointment Scheduler to set up an appointment. For more information, visit www.csuchico.edu/studyabroad.

Student Fitness, Sports, and Outdoor Adventures

Student activity fees ensure access to the Associated Students’ Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), which boasts top-ofthe-line weight and cardio equipment, four group exercise rooms, an indoor running track, a pool and spa, a 35-foot climbing wall and bouldering arch, three basketball courts, and a multi-activity court. In addition to the WREC, the Associated Students also gives students the chance to explore the beauty of the North State by offering more than 80 outdoor trips each year with Adventure Outings. Visit www.as.csuchico.edu/wrec to find out more.
