New Faces and New Spaces for the Arts in 2013 Christine Hoffman - Lower School Music Teacher Christine will be teaching primarily Kindergarten and First Grade students. She comes to us most recently from Hanover County, but has also taught in Japan! She has her BA in Music Education from VCU, and her Master’s in Music Education/Ethnomusicology from Northwestern University. She plays several instruments, including guitar, ukelele, percussion and piano. Her classroom is across the hallway from the Estes Multipurpose room. Teresa Coleman - Middle School Art Teacher Teresa joins us to teach Art to 5th - 8th grade students. She has previously worked at Collegiate as a member of the Summer Quest staff, and as a substitute teacher. She has spent the last 5 years teaching art at Woodville Elementary School. Teresa has a BA in French from Oberlin College, and her BFA in Art Education from VCU. She will be teaching in HCA 108 and in HCA 144. Steve Hart - Middle and Upper School Art Teacher Steve has moved from full to part time in the Planned Giving area of Development in order to teach Woodworking to Middle and Upper School students. Woodworking will continue for 5th and 6th Graders as part of the optional activities,. It will be added to the Fine Arts rotation for 7th graders and as an option for an 8th graders. Middle School Woodworking classes will be held in HCA Room 108. Steve will also teach Fine Craft Furniture I for Upper School students in HCA 145. Jere Williams - Upper School Art Teacher Jere joined the Art Department last year as a part time Upper School teacher and then as a sub in Middle School. He will be full time in Upper School this year. He will be teaching classes in Sculpture, Digital Media, 3-D Design, Woodblock Print Making, and Fine Craft Furniture II. He will also teach Entrepeneurship as part of Senior Seminar. Jere will be working in the new H2L2 woodworking studion, Room 145.
Dr. Pamela James - Choral Teacher - MS/US Pam comes to us most recently from Christchurch School where she was the department chair for the visual and performing arts as well as their music director. She earned her Bachelor of Arts, Music from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and her Masters and Doctorate in Music Education from the Shenandoah Conservatory at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. Steve Perigard - US Drama Steve will be joining us as Upper School Drama teacher (acting and tech theater classes) and Director of our Fall, Winter and Spring productions this year. Steve has been involved with theater in the Richmond Community for over 15 years as an actor, director, and educator. He has worked with Virginia Rep , SPARC, VCU Arts, and Randolph Macon College, amoung others. Zach Townsend - Technical Director Zach comes to us with 7 years of experience with SPARC and CYT in all facets of technical design. He has designed and built sets, as well as designed and run both sound and lighting for many productions. He is a graduate of VCU with his BFA emphasis in lighting design/technical theater. While he will call the sound booth “home�, Zach will work with faculty and students from all school divisions.
New Spaces in HCA Mary Arzt and her students will be enjoying the new North Studio, HCA Room 143. This has been set up as a ceramics studio with a new kiln, several pottery wheels, and plenty of storage and work space. It features plenty of natural light, with adjustable Solar tubes. plenty of glass windows with a view to the new Sharp Academic Commons, and glass exterior and interior doors for easy access. Jere Williams and Steve Hart will share the South Studio, HCA Room 145, for Upper School woodworking, sculpture and printmaking classes. In addition to the same great natural light enjoyed by the North Studio, this studio features wooden work tables designed for woodworking, and lots of built in storage for all of the raw materials and equipment.

Upcoming Events:
US Jazz Band and Chorus perform for Convocation Sept.13th. “Collegiate Creates” Art Exhibit featuring Alumni, Families and Senior Artwork fills the Hershey Center, Pitt Hall, and Flippen Hall during September and October. “Seussical” , our Fall Musical, will be on the Oates Theater Stage October 23, 24 and 25. Tickets on sale October 1st. The First Grade Play, “The Little Red Hen” will be performed November 8 in the Estes Multipurpose Room.
