“
When I look back at the past 10 years of our foundation, I feel immense pride. With the help of travelers and employees, we have been able to change the lives of children around the world - giving them the opportunities to thrive. And we’ve only just begun.

Celebrating 10 Years of Global Giving All children deserve the opportunity to thrive. Our goal is to make this possible for every child, everywhere. Travel has the power to transform lives. It is something we see every day. Experiencing other cultures broadens our horizons and brings us benefits beyond measure. With all these benefits travel offers us, we feel compelled to give back. It’s why we set out 10 years ago to discover how we could have a meaningful impact and transform lives in the communities around us. Since we began the Collette Foundation, it’s been all hands on deck. Our team on the road explores philanthropic programs in communities abroad. Our employees give their time and improve communities through hunger and education initiatives. And our travelers seize opportunities to join us in the mission to give back to the world that gives us so much. It has absolutely been a labor of love. In the 10 years since we established the Collette Foundation, we’ve launched projects in countries like Ecuador, South Africa and Australia. And with our One Million Meals initiative and Impact Travel tours, we feel full of hope. Together we can change the world. And we will.

Working Together
TO CHANGE THE WORLD We approach giving as a team. Our dedicated Social Responsibility department fosters positive relationships with our nonprofit partners and shares our mission with everyone: our employees, travelers and travel community. Since the beginning, travelers have shared our mission, doing their part to help the communities where we have projects. We have been awed by their actions over the years. From knitting a blanket for every child at the Peruvian hogar that we support to funding a field trip for the children in Kenya at the Tenderfeet School, our travelers have made this journey with us and we are incredibly grateful.

Our People Every day, employees are out and about in the communities where they live and where Collette travels, giving back. With four hours each month of paid volunteer time, giving our time is not only encouraged, it’s a core value of the company, and something we enthusiastically take advantage of. Last year, employees gave more than 5,000 hours of service through over 1,400 volunteer engagements. Our goal is to spread good worldwide, and we know that this starts right in our own communities: Rhode Island, USA - Collette’s headquarters | Canada | The United Kingdom | Australia

One Million Meals TO FIGHT WORLD HUNGER! Hunger affects every country in the world and we have made it a central part of our mission at Collette Cares. We believe that hunger is a solvable problem and work every day to leverage our partnerships, volunteer program and travel resources to be a part of its solution.

Our One Million Meals initiative is a 3-year program that has unified hundreds of employees from our global offices, partners and travel community to contribute one million meals by Collette’s 100th anniversary. But this program is bigger than one million meals. For us, it’s about spreading hope, love… and food. It’s about coming together, empowering people and changing the game.

to one million meals
Rise Against Hunger is the lead partner of our One Million Meals initiative. This organization has sparked a movement to end hunger and poverty through education and hands-on volunteer experiences locally, which then promotes educational learning and skill-building programs globally. Its vision is to end world hunger by 2030 and we are proud to work together toward this goal. Collette has participated in global meal packaging events in Rhode Island, Canada, the UK, Australia and Lisbon, Portugal! With Rise Against Hunger, our employee volunteers have hand-packaged 245,300 meals and counting!

Edesia is based in Rhode Island, USA, where Collette is headquartered. And like us, the work they do touches global communities. Edesia manufactures specialized ready-to-use-foods that change lives. Each year, millions of life-saving food packets leave Edesia’s Rhode Island factory and are delivered into the hands of malnourished children all over the world by humanitarian aid workers.

Tenderfeet Education Center Tenderfeet Education Center is a place of hope and happiness that helps orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya. Tenderfeet gives these children access to an education and instills in them a strong sense of self-worth. A highlight of our partnership was building the children a new school. Travelers who have visited the school have been awed by the children’s appreciation for their school and their teachers, as well as the opportunities they have that so many of us take for granted.

Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC) Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC) positively impacts the lives of children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. In 2009, the Collette Foundation helped fund the building of a community center with the help of the local community. Here, the children have access to showers and bathrooms, English-speaking classes, as well as dance classes for both children and young adults. The Collette Foundation funded a reed pond for JWOC, which sends oxygen into the gravel and pulls out some of the pollutants as the water travels through. The end result is water that is clean enough to be used and consumed safely by the community. We have also supported JWOC’s Free Classes Program, which provides disadvantaged students educational opportunities to help them build better futures.

Drum Atweme
‘Atweme’ means to hit the drum. What began as a Friday program to incentivize at-risk Aboriginal girls to attend school daily throughout the week quickly turned into something bigger. The focus of this program, which began in the early ‘90s, is to create a positive influence and healthy atmosphere through the use of traditional music. When the group began, the girls loved it. They wanted to drum. And so began Drum Atweme, which operates with only one rule: to be part of the program, the girls must remain in school. The Aboriginal girls who comprise Drum Atweme fund the program through performances. They are also active in the decision-making of the group regarding performances, creativity and the budget, which has given the girls the biggest gift of all — a stronger sense of self-worth and self-esteem.

Koroipita Village Just outside of Lautoka, Fiji, you will find a tiny settlement called Koroipita, made up of low-income earners who have in the past been homeless. With help from the tourism community, Koroipita has been able to eliminate unbearable living conditions by building model townships that provide residents a home with all the other essentials to provide a safe environment for families. In the past 10 years, our project at Koroipita has provided 84 homes to families in need. The community also has provided the villagers with a day care center, bakery, safe parks, arts and craft center, a grade school to give children access to an education, vegetable gardens, and more.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation The Akshaya Patra Foundation aims to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in India, as well as promote education for children in need. The Collette Foundation supports their meal program that provides daily breakfast and lunch to 240 children attending Government Upper Primary School in Amer, Jaipur. In many cases, the meal these children receive at school will be their only complete meal for the day. This meal is not only their sustenance; it is their incentive to attend school and stay in school. Akshaya Patra currently distributes cooked, healthy meals daily to 1.3 million underprivileged children in 9,000 government schools through 19 kitchens in eight states in India.

Giving Back to Ecuador CHRIS & DOTTIE CAREY REFLECTIONS OF THEIR EXPERIENCES ON COLLETTE’S 2016 ECUADOR IMPACT TOUR
“
There were so many memorable moments but the faces of the adults and children showing their appreciation of our assistance will stay with us forever. We’ll always remember the glorious Andes Mountains that were the backdrop to our trip with their numerous snowcapped volcanoes rising to the sky. We felt more energetic than at the end of most vacations. Helping others is really good for the body and soul. We learned so much about the Ecuadorian people and their culture. Hopefully, our presence left behind a positive impact on their lives going forward; it certainly left a positive impact on ours.
”
Next up for us is the South Africa Impact Tour. Doing our little part to improve the lives of communities around the world was so rewarding, we really feel that this is just the beginning for us!
