The Mouth-WateringCheese Adventure

Written by Chitra Soundar Illustrated by César Samaniego
Mr Wren, the giant, lived alone in Stilton Castle. There he made all kinds of delightful cheeses.
2
Whiskers, the mouse, and Barley, the donkey, lived on a grassy patch behind the castle.
3
One summer’s day, a tempting smell drifted on the breeze. “Where’s that divine smell coming from?” asked Whiskers. 4

“It’s probably Mr Wren’s cheese. He won’t share it with you,” said Barley.

“He wouldn’t miss a little cheese,” said Whiskers. To tempt Barley, she added, “There’s a thistle pasture up there too.” Barley relished thistles! And so he decided to join the mouth-watering cheese adventure.

5
But there was one glitch … A spiky fence and a deep ditch surrounded Stilton Castle. Whiskers chewed a hole in the fence, but it was too small for Barley. 6
“I have a better idea: I can jump!” whinnied Barley. Whiskers clambered onto Barley’s back and he launched over the ditch.
