Emphasises the importance of consistency and continuity
Based on a wide range of handwriting research from around the world
Meet the editor
“If children can’t generate letters automatically, it interferes with their ability to read and write.” – Dr Jane Medwell
Jane Medwell started her career as a teacher in schools in England and Wales, teaching across the age phases. Her interest in languages, early literacy and English led her into university teaching, and she is now an associate professor at the University of Nottingham, conducting research into handwriting and primary education.
As a Happy Handwriting school, you have free access to our simple, modern font for use on your computer to help you prepare materials or displays for your class. As well as cursive and non-cursive variations, you’ll also get our Dot and Arrow fonts, which use glyphs to emulate handwriting strokes.
The Collins Handwriting font contains 90 characters: A-Z in both upper and lowercase, figures, basic mathematical symbols, essential punctuation and three alternative characters (o v w) with outstrokes. The font comprises five weights: Thin, Light, Regular, SemiBold and Bold.
