COUNTY — The fate of Diablo Canyon Power Plant seems slightly puzzling at this point. Up until recently, it was assumed the nuclear power plant would be closing around 2025. Overseen and moni tored by the Nuclear Regula tory Commission (NRC), the plant is licensed to operate Unit 1 into 2024 and Unit 2 into 2025. However, it is likely that it will continue to operate beyondAmidstthen.annual California heat waves and knowing that the continuous use of elec tricity surges during times of excessive heat, state lawmak ers recently approved SB 846, which keeps Diablo Canyon Power Plant open until 2030 and gives operator PG&E a $1.4 billion loan to do so. NORTH COUNTY — Templeton and Paso Robles high schools left big marks on this year's Morro Bay Invitational cross country meet in Morro Bay, with one Eagle winning the boy's race and a Lady Bearcat crossing third in the girl's race.

Held Sept. 10 at the high school by the beach, the Morro Bay Invitational drew some 40 schools from across California, including powerhouse North County programs.

Bell clocked a blistering 14 minutes, 53.6 seconds to take home the first-place medal. There were 206 runners in the boy's race this year. And while the meet doesn't keep team scores, it does hand out medals to the top 15 finishers in each race.
Templeton High School junior Joshua Bell led the boy's race wire-to-wire as he took an early lead through the campus portion of the 3-mile course, and out onto the sands of Morro Strand, by far the toughest going in the school's challenging cross country course.

In the girl's race, also a 3-mile course, a top runner from last year's state meet ran away from the pack and also led wire-to-wire. Nicole Bridges, a junior from Liberty High in Bakersfield, clocked 18:28.2 to win going away. A junior, Bridges last year finished in the top 10 at the state meet.

The Paso Robles Youth Arts Center (Youth Arts) is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 by Artist and Philanthropist Donna Berg. Her vision was to provide all children in Paso Robles and surrounding areas a safe place to learn about and participate in the arts, regard less of their socio-economic status. By encourag ing the arts and creativity, the Youth Arts is a venue where children can remain children. The arts provide a creative outlet and a positive way to deal with the pressures of the world. In this way, it has helped over 10,000 students find their voices, strive for higher education, and avoid gangs and trouble. The Youth Arts has provided children ages 5 to 18 with free classes in the visual and performing arts for 24 years and currently offers 37 classes per week, fills approximately 3000 student seats, and serves 700 individual students per year. Programs are open to all students who wish to enroll. They offer art, dance, music, theater, and creative enrich ment which includes unique opportunities like video production, digital music creation, and culinary arts! Aaron Hogue (61) died Sunday, Sept. 18, while racing his L-29 Ballista in the Reno Air Racing Association’s (RARA) Stihl National Championship Air Races.Hogue, who won Rookie of the Year during last year’s races, died when his jet suddenly crashed into the ground during his last race. He was the only person involved in the crash.

Paul Flores is on trial for Kristin’s murder. The 19-year-old Cal Poly student went missing following the Crandall Way party over Memorial Day weekend in May 1996. His father, Ruben Flores, is accused of helping his son cover up the crime.

Ed didn’t wait until retirement to enjoy life. He was a member of multiple bowling leagues, traveled many miles on the Amtrak, was active in his chil dren’s schools, and was involved with the Boy Scouts. He regularly visited with friends over a cup of coffee, often offering to pick up the tab. Ed enjoyed playing his harmonica at St William’s Catholic Church in the worship band and played at the weddings of all of his grandchildren. He’s most famous for his harmonica appearance with the magic piano at Chicago Union Station.

Joe married Ann Uehling in July 1962. Daughter Carrie was born in 1964, and son Glen in 1966. An avid golfer, Joe enjoyed playing at the China Lake Golf Course, where he had a hole-in-one on the 6th hole on June 22, 1972 (he would want you to know it was a five iron, 188 yards). Joe partic ipated in years of Steve Lee’s Back yard Players Productions, known for his comic acting ability. According to Jeannie Malik, producer along with Friends of the Atascadero Library, this year has been the most successful DWOS event since its inaugural debut in March of 2010, and the final numbers verify that.

Their complaining was sinful, and when the Lord heard it, He began to burn the outskirts of the camp with fire (Numbers 11:13). The people cried to Moses for help and relief. Moses again prayed to the Lord and the disci pline was stopped. The Lord’s reac tion to complaining reveals that it is a serious sin. However, this disci pline didn’t hinder the people from continuing to complain.
The people began to weep and cry out to Moses. Moses took the problem to the Lord and admit ted that he could do nothing to appease the people by acceding to their demand. The Lord’s anger was greatly aroused (Numbers 11:10). Moses was given help from the Lord to handle the burden of dealing with the people (Numbers 11:16-17). Seventy men were chosen to assist Moses in overseeing the needs of the people. The Lord then promised to provide meat for the people. Moses responded to God’s promise by saying it seemed to him that it was impossible to provide meat for so many people (Numbers 11:18-22).
My 50th high school reunion got canceled due to COVID, but it's just as well. They had plans for a dance, a golf tournament, and a barbecue, but I don't know how to dance, broke four windows and wrenched my back the last time I played golf, and my doctor put me on a new diet: I can't eat anything that tastes good. Plus, I probably would have had to wear shorts to play golf, but the local community beautification committee asked me to NEVER wear them in public again because my white legs, knobby knees, and protruding varicose veins were scaring the tourists away.

In a large bowl, beat sugar, pumpkin, oil, eggs and water until blended. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves; gradually beat into pumpkin mixture until blended. Stir in pecans. Pour into two greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pans. For topping, in a small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and cinnamon; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in pecans. Sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks. For variety, consider adding fresh or thawed frozen cranberries, pistachios, or miniature semisweet chocolate chips. Cheers!

When I went into the drugstore to buy a box of cheap wine for my wife on Valentine's Day, the clerk asked to see my ID, while a restaurant tried desperately to give me a senior citizen's discount. I swore to them that I'm not eligible because I'm only ... holy cow, I'm 70 years old! When did that Okay,happen?Iadmit I'm wearing loafers now because I dislocated my back trying to bend over to tie my work boots. And I walk with a cane or walker these days, but who doesn't? I'll also reluctantly admit I watched a replay of last year's Super Bowl game, and not only was I not aware I'd already seen it, I also couldn't remember who won. I used to be able to sleep all night without getting up, but for some reason, now I have to get up several times to drain my radiator. Personally, I think it's because of all the preservatives they're putting in our food. And since when did a gallon of water start weighing eight pounds? The gallon jugs seem to be much heavier now, probably because of all the minerals and impurities in the water. That's my theory, anyway.

In 2016, PG&E partnered with labor and environmental organizations on a joint proposal agreement to retire Diablo Canyon Power Plant at the end of its current Nuclear Regulatory Commission operating licenses.
After four years, the decision to close the power plant has switched but has been met with concerns and also praise. Lawmakers adamant about protecting climate change and using renewable energy are switching gears because they see no immediate fix to the situation and find keeping Diablo Canyon Power Plant in service is the necessary remedy while further research in renewable energy is completed.

Yet, many are appeased with the power plant not retiring so soon. According to nonprofit news organization Cal Matters, Newsom says, “Climate change is causing unprecedented stress on California’s energy system, and I appreciate the Legislature’s action to maintain energy reliability as the State accelerates the transition to clean energy” (CalMatters.org).
