As you read this, our communities are emerging from one of the most devastating events in its history. At the height of the crisis, five fires burned simultaneously across Los Angeles County, overwhelming our neighborhoods. Firefighters and emergency responders faced unprecedented challenges, battling blazing firestorms fueled by winds of up to 100 miles per hour. Their courage and tireless efforts over two and a half grueling weeks have brought the fires to a more manageable state. While press conferences have slowed, now begins the monumental task of rebuilding—for our families, our friends, and our community.
In late December, when the Franklin Fire struck Malibu, the devastation was overwhelming. As the owner and publisher of The Malibu Times, in addition to Calabasas Style, I was in the thick of it—covering the fire while my team grappled with its impact. As we navigated those challenges and worked to finalize this issue of Calabasas Style, the Palisades Fire erupted, further testing our resolve. One of my reporters lost her home, another lived just outside the evacuation zone, and the rest of our team was displaced. Despite these trials, our team came together to deliver timely and accurate updates to our readers. It was a whirlwind, and amidst the chaos, I found myself stretched thin, unable to finalize the magazine as planned.
Witnessing the fear, loss, and damage caused by these events has been heartbreaking, but it has also underscored the strength and resilience of our community. On this issue’s cover, we feature the remarkable Malibu Lost Hills Sheriff Captain Jennifer Seetoo and her beautiful family. Her leadership and dedication during this tragedy have been a beacon of hope. She and her team have been a godsend during a time of unimaginable pain, reminding us of the extraordinary people who guide us through adversity.
As I reflect on my second year of owning and publishing Calabasas Style, I’m reminded of the journey so far. This past year has been marked by challenges, changes, and difficult decisions that have profoundly shaped me and my team. I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support, which has been a constant source of hope and inspiration. Though I am a young entrepreneur with much to learn, my vision remains steadfast: to bring communities together and celebrate what makes them special.
With this issue coming out later than planned, our March/April issue will follow suit, arriving in late March. By then, we’ll be back on schedule. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate these adjustments. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. Bringing the focus back to this issue, we proudly present our “People to Watch in 2025,” highlighting inspiring leaders in our community. We also feature our “Health Check” segment, showcasing top physicians and healthcare providers dedicated to your well-being. And let’s not forget Valentine’s Day—we’ve gathered some great ideas to help you celebrate your loved ones and make the day truly special.
Life is a blessing, and we are incredibly fortunate to live and work in a community that prioritizes connection, support, and togetherness. As we rebuild and reflect on the lives impacted by these events, I am reminded of the vital role each of you plays in our collective journey. Your partnership, encouragement, and trust are invaluable to me and our team.
This experience has been a powerful reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of focusing on what truly matters. In the face of adversity, I’ve seen our community unite with unwavering strength and compassion. This resilience is what makes our community so extraordinary, and it inspires me to move forward, even in the toughest moments.
Thank you for standing with us through this past year. Together, we will continue to celebrate the beauty, strength, and resilience of our community through the pages of Calabasas Style.

What Documents Are Included in an Estate Plan?
Ioften meet families who are unsure where to begin when it comes to estate planning. One question I hear frequently is, “What documents do I really need?” Like most legal matters, my response is: It depends.
An effective estate plan is tailored to your unique circumstances. While each family dynamic and scenario differs, ensure that your estate planner includes at least the following foundational documents:
1. A Will
This is the cornerstone of most estate plans. A will outlines how you want your assets distributed and names guardians for minor children. However, a will alone may not be enough to avoid probate.
2. A Living Trust
For many families, a living trust is an essential tool to bypass probate, maintain privacy, and manage assets during incapacity. A properly funded trust ensures that your estate transitions smoothly without court intervention.
3. Durable Power of Attorney
This document designates someone you trust to handle financial and legal matters on your behalf if you’re unable to do so.
4. Advance Healthcare Directive
This document spells out your medical wishes and names a healthcare agent to make decisions on your behalf if you’re incapacitated.
5. HIPAA Authorization
This ensures that your chosen agents can access the medical information needed to act on your behalf.
6. Beneficiary Designations
While not technically part of your estate plan, updating beneficiaries on accounts like life insurance and retirement funds is crucial to avoid conflicts.
Ultimately, your estate plan depends on your family structure, assets, and goals. The best way to ensure everything is covered is to work with an experienced estate planning attorney. Every family’s plan is different, and yours deserves the right fit.

In the heart of Westlake Village, the Seetoo family has built a life defined by connection, community, and a shared commitment to service. Joe and Jennifer “Jenn” Seetoo, along with their two daughters, Selah (11) and Sophia (9), embody the values of family, faith, and kindness in everything they do. From their professional lives to their personal passions, the Seetoos are deeply rooted in the community they love.
Joe, a Partner at Morton Wealth in Calabasas, balances his demanding career with a dedication to health and well-being. A fitness enthusiast, he finds joy in Jiu Jitsu, weightlifting, yoga, and playing guitar. When football season rolls around, it’s a family affair, with Joe leading the charge as the biggest fan in the house. “Staying active and engaged is important to me,” Joe shares. “Whether it’s through work, fitness, or family time, I’m always looking for ways to grow and contribute.”
Jenn, serves as our beloved Captain at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. Her role is as challenging as it is rewarding, offering her the chance to protect and serve the very community she calls home. When she’s not in uniform, Jenn enjoys yoga, walking their Goldendoodle, Abby, and spending quality time with her family. “This community has given us so much,” Jenn says. “Being able to give back through my work and our family’s involvement in local initiatives is incredibly fulfilling.”
The couple’s daughters, Selah and Sophia, are vibrant, energetic, and already forging their own unique paths. Selah, a sixth grader, is deeply passionate about dance, spending four evenings a week rehearsing with Protégé Dance Studio’s competitive team. In her downtime, she enjoys playing tennis and joining her mom for yoga sessions. Sophia, a third grader, is equally active, balancing basketball, swimming, and Jiu Jitsu practice with her dad. After completing a season at Sports Academy, she is now gearing up for her swim team debut. Both girls love visiting Jenn at work, often donning police hats and pretending to be “Captain” for the day.
“We want our daughters to understand the importance of gratitude and helping those in need. It’s not just something we talk about; it’s
something
we live.”
The Seetoos’ journey to Westlake Village began in 2014 when they moved from Sherman Oaks to Agoura Hills in search of a more family-friendly environment. By 2021, they had found their forever home in Westlake Village. “The mountains, sunsets, and close-knit community immediately drew us in,” Jenn recalls. “It’s a place where our values of family and connection truly come to life.” Joe adds, “We’ve fallen in love with the area’s natural beauty and the incredible people we’ve met along the way. It’s more than a neighborhood; it feels like an extended family.”
A typical day in the Seetoo household is a balance of structure and spontaneity. Jenn starts her mornings with a yoga session at Westlake Yoga Company, a practice that grounds her for the day ahead. Joe, an early riser, often begins his day with reading and a workout. The girls fill the house with music, laughter, and dancing as they prepare for school. Weekdays are a whirlwind of activities, from
community outreach and council meetings to basketball practice and dance rehearsals. Weekends, however, are reserved for family time—whether it’s hiking, walking Abby, or hosting friends for dinner. “Weekends are our time to recharge and enjoy life’s simple pleasures,” Jenn notes.
The Seetoos’ love for their community extends beyond their personal lives. Joe serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Conejo Valley, while Jenn is involved with local charities, including the Future Foundation. The family also participates in volunteer activities, such as the annual holiday toy giveaway at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
“Giving back is a family value,” Joe says. “It’s something we’ve instilled in our girls from a young age.” Jenn adds, “We want our daughters to understand the importance of gratitude and helping those in need. It’s not just something we talk about; it’s something we live.”
Their commitment to community is matched by their enthusiasm for local businesses. The Seetoos are regulars at The Landing in Westlake Village, where they enjoy the cozy atmosphere and delicious food. They also frequent The Mulholland in Calabasas for a more intimate dining experience. “Supporting local businesses is one way we can contribute to the community’s vibrancy,” Jenn explains.
Travel is another passion for the Seetoo family. Recent adventures have included glamping in Paso Robles, with plans for a trip to Italy on the horizon. “Nature helps us reconnect and unwind,” Joe says. “It’s a chance to step away from our busy lives and focus on what matters most.” Whether it’s exploring California’s wine country or dreaming of European escapades, the Seetoos cherish the opportunity to create lasting memories together.
One of the family’s favorite traditions is hosting quarterly dinners at their home, where they invite a small group of
couples—often strangers to one another—for an evening of good food and conversation. “It’s a way to build connections and foster a sense of community,”
“We want to be the kind of family that shows up for others and makes a lasting impact on our community.”
Jenn explains. Another cherished tradition is volunteering at the Malibu/Lost Hills Station’s open house and holiday events, which the girls eagerly anticipate each year. These gatherings not only bring joy to their family but also reinforce the values they hold dear.
Selah and Sophia are learning the importance of service and leadership through their parents’ example. Both girls have started contributing to their community in small but meaningful ways. Selah recently participated in a charity dance event, raising funds for a local children’s hospital. Sophia has taken an interest in animal welfare, often helping her mom gather supplies for local pet shelters. “We want them to see that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference,” Jenn says.
“Our goal is to leave a legacy of love and laughter”
The Seetoos also prioritize sustainability in their daily lives, finding ways to reduce waste and support eco-friendly practices. They’ve adopted habits like recycling, composting, and minimizing energy use, setting an example for their daughters and their community. Joe notes, “Living sustainably is part of being good stewards of the resources we’ve been given. It’s another way we can give back.”
As busy as they are, the Seetoos always make time for their faith. They are active members of their church, where they participate in various programs and initiatives. “Our faith is the foundation of our family,” Joe explains. “It guides how we treat each other and how we interact with the world around us.” Their involvement in church activities provides a sense of purpose and a deeper connection to their community.
Looking ahead, the Seetoos are focused on continuing to grow as a family that embodies kindness, service, and positivity. They hope to inspire others to prioritize family values and community engagement. “Our goal is to leave a legacy of love and laughter,” Jenn shares. Joe adds, “We want to be the kind of family that shows up for others and makes a lasting impact on our community.”
We recently remodeled our home, and it truly reflects who we are. It’s not just about the design; it’s about creating a space that feels like us. Our designer focused on bringing the outside elements inside with organic stone and wood. We love the views, the sunsets, and how everything comes together to make the home warm, inviting, and full of love. Most importantly, it’s the people and the community that make this house feel like home.
Our home is a blend of modern and natural—transitional style with earthy tones, stone, wood, and organic materials. It’s simple yet sophisticated, and every element has meaning. We love creating a space that feels grounded and peaceful, a sanctuary for our family.
Our kitchen is definitely my favorite. It’s where we gather, whether we’re baking, cooking, or just hanging out. The kitchen is the heart of our family time, and the view during sunset is a perfect bonus.
For Joe, it’s the deck in the evening as the sun is setting against the Santa Monica Mountains towards Malibu, and the sky is filled with vibrant colors of purple, blue, and pink as the evening fades into the night.

Escaping a home during a fast-moving brush fire is a harrowing experience for anyone, but when large animals such as horses need to be evacuated, the situation becomes even more challenging. Many Malibu equestrians face this dilemma during the region's frequent wildfires, and during these emergencies, they often rely on the Pierce College Equestrian Center to shelter their beloved animals.
On December 11, as the Franklin Fire spread across the area, the Woodland Hills facility swiftly became a critical refuge for displaced animals. By Wednesday morning, the center had already accepted 19 horses from Malibu residents. As the fire intensified and containment remained at zero percent, the number of horses needing shelter increased to over 50. Pierce College Equestrian Center, located just over the hills from Malibu, can accommodate up to 200 horses. However, in an emergency, the students and volunteers at the facility also house other animals.
Donna Mae Villanueva, a dean at Pierce College, described how the center went above and beyond during this crisis. The center also accepted miniature cows, goats, pigs, and chickens from Malibu residents who had to evacuate. As evacuees arrived, they typically brought food for their animals, which were then cared for by county animal husbandry volunteers and students. "We're here to help out," Villanueva said. "We've been used as an evacuation center for live animals during fires in our surrounding areas, and we've always been very open and willing to assist the community.
We're open 24/7, and there's always someone here."
Malibu is home to other animal rescue facilities, and as the fire threatened the area, those in charge of these organizations quickly sprang into action. One such facility, Big Heart Ranch, a farm animal rescue and sanctuary, worked tirelessly to evacuate animals to safety. CEO Michelle Gerlis explained that volunteers at the ranch began moving 45 large animals, including draft horses, off the property near Trancas Canyon well before the fire was imminent. "It's a fine line between being paranoid and being preemptive," Gerlis noted, acknowledging the difficulty in moving 2,000-pound horses. "I didn't want to wait until we were full to move the animals to safer locations."
The ranch's animals, many of which had come from traumatic situations, required special care. Some were not used to evacuations, as they had never experienced the Woolsey Fire. Additionally, other animals like donkeys struggled with confinement, while smaller creatures were vulnerable to smoke inhalation or the risk of getting lost. "Everyone’s usually focusing on bigger animals," Gerlis said, "but we can't forget about the smaller ones."
In response, Erin Wu, a volunteer at Big Heart Ranch, coordinated the evacuation of smaller animals like bunnies and guinea pigs. "I'm not going to let them be exposed to fumes, and they're not going to get left behind," she said. Wu also made sure that two alpacas, who had famously posed for photos on Zuma Beach during the Woolsey Fire, were relocated to safety.

Pacific Festival Ballet (PFB) recently celebrated a remarkable milestone—30 years of presenting The Nutcracker, a beloved holiday tradition that has captivated families throughout the Conejo Valley and beyond. The 30th Anniversary Fundraiser marked this special occasion, reflecting on three decades of breathtaking performances, community engagement, and artistic growth, while expressing deep gratitude for the many supporters who have made this journey possible.
Founded in 1994, PFB has become a cornerstone of the local arts scene, known for its commitment to preserving the traditions of classical ballet while embracing the evolving art of dance. Over the years, the ballet company has expanded its reach, bringing world-class performances to the Bank of America Performing Arts Center and beyond. The fundraiser played a key role in ensuring this legacy continues, enabling PFB to offer high-caliber performances and nurture the next generation of dancers.
“Your support during our 30th anniversary fundraiser ensures we can continue to inspire, educate, and uplift through the art of ballet,” said Artistic Director Kim Maselli. “Together, we can keep The Nutcracker alive for years to come and cultivate the next generation of dancers.”
The event brought together supporters from across the region, all united by a passion for the arts. Funds raised will directly support PFB’s mission, providing opportunities for young dancers to perform alongside professional artists and inspire audiences of all ages.
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of upcoming performances for the 30th season, including a special “anniversary edition” of The Nutcracker. For three decades, this enchanting production has been a holiday tradition for PFB and its audiences. This year, Artistic Director Kim Maselli reimagined several scenes and introduced new choreography, costumes, and refurbished sets to give the performance a fresh, exciting twist.
“We’ve kept the elements our audience loves, but we’ve added new spins to make this year’s performance extra special,” said PFB Associate Director Deborah Collodel. The excitement surrounding the updated production grew, especially with a cast of over 100 dancers, including guest stars Tiler Peck and Roman Mejia from the New York City Ballet, performing the
Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier roles. Their chemistry offstage added even more magic to the production, particularly with their recent engagement, which brings a real-life love story to the stage.
Alongside professional dancers, the performance also highlighted rising stars from the California Dance Theatre (CDT), PFB’s official school. One standout was Ailis Kinney, a Malibu High School student who took on the lead role of Clara. Ailis’s dedication to ballet has earned her admiration from instructors and peers, and her family’s involvement in the production made it all the more special. Ailis’s younger sister, Ronan Kinney, also performed, and their father, Brendan Kinney, appeared in a supporting role, creating a true community celebration.
“Ailis is every teacher’s dream,” said her instructor, Romy Rapoport. “She’s focused, talented, and brings so much heart to her dancing. Watching her grow has been an absolute pleasure.” Ailis’s hard work is evident in her 30 hours of weekly practice, alongside her school commitments.
The 30th Anniversary of The Nutcracker served as a reminder of the importance of arts education and community support. By giving young dancers like Ailis the opportunity to perform alongside professionals, PFB continues to enrich the cultural fabric of the Conejo Valley, fostering creative expression and a deeper appreciation for the arts.
As PFB looks toward the next 30 years, the support of the community will remain essential to the company’s success. “With your help, we can continue to present world-class performances at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center and throughout the Conejo Valley,” says Maselli. The 30th anniversary season is a tribute to the dedication, passion, and teamwork that have made The Nutcracker a cherished holiday tradition.
To experience the magic of The Nutcracker and support PFB’s continued growth, visit pacfestballet.org. With ongoing community support, PFB will continue to inspire, educate, and uplift through the timeless art of ballet for years to come.

The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to refresh your closet and set the tone for a stylish and organized year ahead. Whether you're aiming for a decluttered space, updating your wardrobe, or simply rediscovering what you already own, a closet refresh can bring a sense of clarity and excitement to your routine. Here are a few tips to help you start the year off right:
Start by sorting through your clothes. Remove items you haven’t worn in the past year or that no longer fit your style. Consider donating gently used pieces to a local charity or selling them online to make room for new items. A decluttered closet helps you focus on what truly suits you.
Once you’ve pared down your collection, organize your remaining clothing by category—tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, etc. This will make it easier to find what you need and mix and match outfits. Consider color-coding or using storage bins for accessories and seasonal items.
Take a look at your wardrobe essentials—basic pieces that can be mixed and matched for various occasions. Investing in quality staples, like a perfect white shirt, tailored jeans, or a classic blazer, will ensure you have a versatile foundation for your outfits.
Refresh your closet by adding a few trendy pieces that reflect your personal style. Incorporating statement accessories or seasonal must-haves can inject some fun and novelty into your look without overwhelming your closet.
To keep your closet in check throughout the year, adopt the “one in, one out” rule. When you purchase something new, make sure to donate or discard an item you no longer wear.

The Calabasas Chamber of Commerce has been here since the beginning— even predating the City of Calabasas. Established in 1955, the Chamber will soon celebrate its 70th anniversary. With over 300 members, the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce is a dynamic non-profit organization committed to supporting and empowering the local business community year-round. Our members are the pillar of the Chamber’s success, contributing to a legacy of growth and collaboration.
The Chamber celebrated the 40-year membership milestones of Mercedes-Benz of Calabasas and the Calabasas/Las Virgenes Historical Society, a testament to their enduring dedication and partnership. The Calabasas Country Club and Viewpoint School will soon join the ranks of our 40-year members, marking another era in our shared journey.
A city thrives when its educational institutions excel, its neighborhoods flourish, and its dining and service offerings continually evolve. By maintaining top-tier schools, fostering beautifully kept communities, and embracing a diverse array of businesses, we continue to build upon a vibrant place that enriches all of our lives. This would not be possible without the support of the community. Your decision to shop, dine, and hire locally makes all the difference.
Our businesses are overcoming the challenges of recent years and pursuing goals with renewed determination and resilience. Business professionals are making more thoughtful and informed decisions,
embracing the power of digital marketing, prioritizing peer outreach, and championing the success of fellow entrepreneurs.
The Calabasas Chamber of Commerce is also embarking on an exciting new chapter. Experiencing rapid growth and momentum, the Chamber has welcomed 50 new members this year! The surge in interest from businesses across the region highlights our expanding geographic reach and the strengthening business community that we proudly support.
Support is the cornerstone of success in business, and nowhere is this more evident than within the Chamber community. Our Calabasas Women’s Group, established in 2023, provides a welcoming and safe space where women entrepreneurs, students, and retirees can connect, learn, and share their experiences. The latest event at Logix Federal Credit Union in Calabasas provided attendees valuable insights into economic and market trends, effective investment strategies, and ways to build a legacy.
The Chamber also hosts monthly meetings, including the Attorney’s Forum, a gathering of legal professionals who network, share insights, and support one another; the Community Education Forum, which fosters collaboration among educational institutions and businesses; and the Government & Community Affairs Committee, which unites local, regional, and federal representatives to discuss key issues together.
Other events include partnering with the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District for a multi-city International Women’s Day celebration, demonstrating our shared commitment to inclusivity; joining forces with the City of Calabasas to host a public workshop focused on retail crime prevention and safety measures; and producing a fun fashion show showcasing the creativity and talent of local brands and businesses.

Peter Kraut has called Calabasas home for over two decades, and in that time, he has become a familiar face in the city’s civic life. From his involvement in shaping the city’s General Plan to his role as the current mayor, Kraut’s contributions have left a lasting impact on the community. His background as an engineer, his leadership within the city, and his dedication to Calabasas make him uniquely suited to lead the city during his mayoral term, which began in 2024.
Kraut’s journey in Calabasas began when he and his wife, Lesli, moved to the city to raise their two children, Andrew and Rachel. Both children attended local schools, including Lupin Hill Elementary School, A.E. Wright Middle School, and Agoura High School, where they grew up immersed in the community. For Kraut, Calabasas is more than just a place to live—it’s home. His love for the outdoors, especially hiking, camping, and backpacking, reflects his connection to the natural beauty that surrounds the city. This personal commitment to the environment and quality of life for families shapes much of his approach to governance.
Kraut’s educational journey led him from civil engineering studies to a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. His technical expertise has since served him well in his professional career as a mechanical engineer. Specializing in plumbing systems design, Kraut has worked on diverse projects across the country, including schools, hospitals, stadiums, and amusement parks. In 2001, he founded South Coast Engineering Group, a business he operates in Calabasas, employing 20 engineers, designers, and draftspeople.
His career and professional success speak to his ability to lead complex projects, but it’s his dedication to the community that has truly shaped his leadership style. His extensive involvement in local and national organizations, such as the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), Engineers Without Borders, and various local committees, demonstrates his commitment to both professional growth and community engagement.
Kraut’s journey into civic leadership began in 2008 when he served on the Calabasas General Plan Advisory Committee. His work on the 2030 General Plan, which has become the foundation for the city’s Development Code, set the stage for his continued involvement in city matters. From there, he served on the Calabasas Planning Commission from 2016 to 2020, eventually becoming the vice-chairperson in his final two years.
In 2020, Kraut took his involvement to the next level when he was elected to the Calabasas City Council. Over the years, he has served on numerous task forces aimed at addressing key issues within the city, including homelessness, open space, and economic development. As a council member, Kraut has worked on several initiatives to strengthen Calabasas’ financial position, ensure long-term sustainability, and create policies that foster a welcoming and thriving community.
In December 2024, Kraut assumed the role of mayor, a position he will hold for the next year. As mayor, Kraut presides over City Council meetings, executes legal documents, and represents Calabasas in legislative and ceremonial matters. However, his leadership goes beyond the ceremonial duties of the office. Kraut’s leadership style is deeply rooted in collaboration, transparency, and forward-thinking policy. Under his guidance, the City Council will continue to focus on issues that matter most to residents, including housing, sustainability, and quality of life.
Despite the absence of administrative authority in the mayor’s role, Kraut’s leadership is critical in shaping the direction of the city. His experience as a business owner, his work on committees, and his leadership within the Calabasas community have equipped him with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate effectively for the city’s needs at the local, county, and state levels.
One of the defining features of Kraut’s leadership is his commitment to building strong relationships, not just within Calabasas but across the region. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center Joint Powers Authority and the Calabasas-Headwaters Corner, among many other regional boards. His participation in organizations like the League of California Cities and the Valley Industry Commerce Association ensures that Calabasas remains connected to surrounding communities, enhancing its ability to collaborate on regional issues.
Moreover, Kraut’s involvement in the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Board underscores his dedication to preserving the natural beauty of Calabasas, which he cherishes as an avid outdoorsman. He also continues to mentor young engineers through Engineers Without Borders, highlighting his commitment to education and community service.
As mayor, Kraut remains focused on key priorities for Calabasas, including maintaining its high quality of life, improving public services, and addressing the challenges posed by growth and development. He has also made it clear that fostering a strong sense of community is a top priority, recognizing the importance of local engagement in shaping the future of Calabasas.
Countless books and articles explore the traits and characteristics that lead to success in the business and nonprofit world. As we step into 2025, may these stories inspire you to pursue your goals with purpose and passion in your chosen field.

For Sara and Hanna Shevin, real estate is more than a career—it’s a family legacy. Growing up in Calabasas, the sisters were immersed in the industry, watching their dad, Marc, and uncle, Rory, excel in their field. For over 30 years, Marc and Rory built a stellar reputation in real estate, and their passion for the business naturally inspired Sara and Hanna to follow in their footsteps.
“We were always surrounded by the business,” Sara and Hannah recall. “Whether it was listening to our dad share stories about his work or seeing how much he enjoyed helping families find their dream homes, it was impossible not to feel drawn to it.” After graduating college, both sisters returned to Los Angeles, earned their real estate licenses, and joined their dad on his team. “We are a close family, we have fun and enjoy every day that we work together.”
The family’s shared commitment to excellence has led to countless memorable moments. For Hanna, one of the most meaningful milestones was selling her first house with her dad and sister. “It was in Mountain Park Estates, the gated community where we grew up. It felt like everything had come full circle,” she says.

Sara cherishes the unique experiences that come with meeting new clients. “We’ve had the chance to work with such interesting people—from families buying their first home in Calabasas to professional athletes and entertainment industry professionals,” she explains. “Each client brings a new story, but helping families settle into Calabasas is especially rewarding. It reminds me of when our parents made the same choice to raise us here.
The Shevin sisters credit much of their success to the values instilled in them by their family. “Our dad always taught us the importance of honesty, respect, and integrity. That foundation has shaped the way we work and how we treat others.” Both sisters agree, adding, “We strive to provide a seamless experience for our clients and to build long-lasting relationships. It’s about more than just buying and selling homes—it’s about creating trust and making people feel supported every step of the way.”
Clients often praise the sisters’ dedication and professionalism. One client texted, “OMG, you did an extraordinary job. From start to finish, you were incredible!” Another shared, “Thank you so much! The Shevins… real estate dream makers.”
Looking ahead, Sara and Hanna are excited to continue growing their family business, helping new clients, and even assisting the adult children of their dad’s former clients in finding their first homes. “It’s such a privilege to be part of these moments,” Sara reflects. “We love what we do and are grateful to be part of this amazing community.”

Malibu today is vastly different from the community Kasey Earnest encountered 20 years ago when she joined the Malibu Boys & Girls Club (BGCM) as program director. Much of that transformation can be attributed to her tireless efforts and vision. When Kasey first arrived, BGCM had only 30 children enrolled. Initially unsure of Malibu’s needs, she quickly recognized the extreme levels of support required. Under her leadership, BGCM evolved into a cornerstone of the community, expanding programs to include academics, leadership development, health and wellness, and the arts. “It’s about graduating students who are confident, healthy, and ready to launch into the world,” Kasey explained. The club’s reach extended to multiple Malibu schools, with enrollment peaking at nearly 900 children before the Woolsey Fire in 2018.
Even in times of crisis, Kasey’s innovative spirit prevailed. She spearheaded the creation of BGCM’s wellness center, which integrates counseling services into Malibu’s public schools. “It’s a core pillar of who we are and what we do,” she said, emphasizing the importance of meeting children where they are. She also founded a social work department to support Malibu’s aging population after the Woolsey Fire, personally aiding seniors in need. “These Malibu citizens had lost everything. It was a no-brainer. We had to help,” she said.
For Kasey, the most meaningful moments of her career come from alumni who share how the club changed their lives. “When I run into alumni and they tell me, ‘The Boys & Girls Club saved my life,’ that’s enough. To change someone’s life, to give them opportunities they didn’t think they had — that’s a gift.”
Her impact has not gone unnoticed. Wade Major, president of Advocates for Malibu Public Schools, called Kasey a “local treasure,” praising her as an example of how parents can give back to the community. Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart echoed the sentiment, saying, “We are fortunate to have her making Malibu a better place every day.”
Looking ahead, Kasey is spearheading the development of a new teen center at Malibu High School, believing that partnerships between parents, schools, and city leaders will continue to strengthen the community. Reflecting on her two decades with BGCM, she said, “Having these types of organizations in your community, supported by the community, makes your community a better one. We’re a better community because we’ve extended our arms to support one another.”
When Kasey first arrived, BGCM had only 30 children enrolled. Initially unsure of Malibu’s needs, she quickly recognized the extreme levels of support required. “It was almost immediate upon arrival that there was nowhere else that I should be,” she recalled. “There was endless opportunity to be helpful and supportive and triage the different levels of need for the kids there.” Her dedication and insight led to her promotion to CEO just two years later.
Aaron T. Jones is the visionary founder and CEO of International Protective Service (IPS), an Albuquerque-based armed security and protection firm established in 2006.
Over nearly two decades, Aaron has built IPS into a trusted leader in the industry, offering an unparalleled range of security services that include armed protection, canine services, cutting-edge surveillance technologies, and aviation solutions. “Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide peace of mind in an ever-changing world,” says Aaron.
The road to success has been far from easy, but Aaron’s perseverance and steadfast commitment to his core mission have guided IPS through challenging times. “Staying in business when others couldn’t has been a testament to our team’s dedication and resilience,” he reflects. “Our officers put their lives on the line every day to protect people and property, and I’m endlessly proud of their courage and professionalism.”
IPS stands out from competitors by blending heart and soul with the highest professional standards. Aaron emphasizes the importance of treating clients like family while ensuring his team receives world-class training. “What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to ethics, excellence, and

innovation,” he explains. Over the years, IPS has expanded to offer a full spectrum of services, including IPS Technologies for alarm, camera, and access control systems; IPS Global Aviation, which utilizes drones, helicopters, and aircraft for surveillance, firefighting, search and rescue, and even vital organ transportation; and IPS Tactical, a division supplying specialized equipment to law enforcement and fire agencies.
At its core, IPS is guided by the principles of truth, integrity, and honesty—values Aaron attributes to his small-town upbringing. “I believe in honoring your word. It’s the foundation of trust, and trust is everything in this business,” he shares.
Looking ahead, Aaron has ambitious plans for IPS. In 2025, he aims to expand the aviation division to play a greater role in fire prevention and intervention across California, the United States, and globally. “We’re not just a security company; we’re evolving into a comprehensive safety and protection provider,” he says.
Clients frequently express gratitude for the peace of mind IPS delivers. One testimonial reads, “IPS has been a gamechanger for our business. Their professionalism and attention to detail are unmatched.”
Aaron’s philosophy of perseverance and his dedication to making the world a safer place have cemented his reputation as a leader in the security industry. “Success isn’t just about staying ahead; it’s about staying true to who you are and what you stand for,” he concludes.
The Hollywood Mediterranean aesthetic is a style of timeless elegance blending the warmth and romance of Mediterranean design, the whimsy of Hollywood and the casual sophistication of California living.
As we enter 2025, I’m reimagining the style for modern lifestyles, embracing sustainability, innovative materials, and contemporary touches—all while staying true to its architectural history.
What elements make up the Hollywood Mediterranean aesthetic and how can it be adapted for modern living? I will answer these questions and offer practical design tips for bringing this style into your own home. I will also share with you inspiration from my Hudson House project, a Hollywood Mediterranean residence where I’m showcasing old world craftsmanship in a fresh new way.
This architectural style embraces timeless charm and the whimsy of Hollywood by using exposed wooden beams, vaulted ceilings, and wrought iron accents, complemented by earthy elements like terracotta tiles, stucco finishes, and red clay roofs. The color palette features warm, neutral tones inspired by nature—sandy beige, creamy whites, and warm nudes. A feature of this design is its seamless indoor-outdoor living, where courtyards, patios, and arbors extend the home’s living areas. Natural materials such as stone and wood are paired with rich, textured fabrics like linen and woven textiles, creating a harmonious blend of sophistication and comfort.
Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Choices:
Today’s Hollywood Mediterranean homes incorporate sustainable materials, such as reclaimed wood and energyefficient glass. In Hudson House, for instance, partnerships with eco-conscious brands like E&K Vintage Wood bring a modern, green twist to traditional design elements.
Simplified Elegance:
Modern versions embrace a less-is-more philosophy, opting for clean lines, furniture with sexy curves, and hand-blown Murano glass lighting fixtures instead of busy details.
Technology Meets Tradition:
Integrated smart home technology, such as Lutron lighting systems and Monogram kitchen appliances, enhances functionality while maintaining the aesthetic’s timeless appeal.
Layering Textures and Materials:
Combine rough-hewn wooden furniture with smooth, marble surfaces or pair vintage wrought iron with sleek, modern fixtures.
Play with Scale:
Large-scale artwork or oversized pendant lights can add a contemporary feel to traditional spaces.
Focus on Entertaining:
Prioritize spaces like living rooms, dining rooms and outdoor areas to encourage connection and relaxed living—which is key to California design.
Hudson House by Julia Wong is my personal project where I illustrate how the Hollywood Mediterranean aesthetic can be reimagined in a new way. Merging traditional craftsmanship with romance and whimsy. The partnership with brands like Kallista adds luxurious, modern lines, while the overall design embraces the soul of Mediterranean homes. It’s a space where Hollywood glamour meets cutting edge design. Hudson House by Julia Wong will set a new standard in luxury design/build.

In the ever-evolving world of beauty, 2025 is shaping up to be the year of smart simplicity. High-end skincare brands and experts are leaning into cuttingedge science, minimalist routines, and sustainability, making it clear that the future of skincare is about doing more with less. Let’s dive into the trends that are taking center stage, as shared by beauty insiders and leading publications.
“Consumers are embracing streamlined routines with products that multitask,” says Jessica Cruel, Editor-inChief at Allure. “It’s not just about saving time—it’s about choosing products that deliver real results.” Gone are the days of elaborate 10-step regimens. In their place, you’ll find multifunctional cleansers that double as gentle exfoliants and moisturizers infused with SPF, cutting clutter while maximizing efficiency.
Sunscreen is getting a makeover—literally. According to Allure, brands are now creating formulas that not only protect but also enhance. “The new wave of sunscreens feels luxurious, blends seamlessly with all skin tones, and even includes skincare benefits like hydration and anti-aging properties,” Cruel explains. This trend caters to the growing demand for protection that feels invisible yet effective.
Imagine giving your elbows and knees the same TLC as your face. That’s exactly what’s happening with the “skinification” of body care. High-end ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid are migrating to body lotions and scrubs, ensuring every inch of skin gets the attention it deserves. “People are realizing that body care doesn’t have to take a backseat,” a beauty expert told Vogue Business.
“NAD+ is the molecule of the moment,” writes Vogue
Business. Long celebrated for its role in cellular energy, NAD+ is now making waves in skincare. Dr. Karen Chu, a cosmetic chemist, explains, “This coenzyme is like fuel for your skin cells. It helps repair damage, boosts radiance, and keeps skin looking youthful.” With beauty brands racing to incorporate NAD+ into serums and creams, 2025 could be the year this ingredient becomes a household name.
For tech-savvy beauty lovers, devices like LED masks and AI-powered tools are becoming as essential as a good cleanser. The Scottish Sun recently spotlighted the trend, noting, “From microcurrent wands that mimic salon facials to toothbrushes that analyze your brushing habits, beauty gadgets are redefining at-home care.” These tools are transforming skincare routines, offering results once reserved for professional settings.
Skincare lovers are more eco-conscious than ever, driving brands to innovate. Sustainable packaging, refillable containers, and waterless formulations are just the start. “Our customers want products that are good for their skin and the planet,” said a spokesperson from a leading skincare brand, as quoted in Cosmetics Design.
Healthy skin starts with a strong barrier, and 2025 is all about protecting it. “Overusing actives like retinol and AHAs has led to widespread issues like irritation and sensitivity,” explains dermatologist Dr. Anjali Mahto. “The focus is now on soothing and repairing the skin barrier, with ingredients like ceramides and fatty acids leading the charge.”
Skincare in 2025 is about balance: high-tech meets holistic, luxury meets sustainability. As Jessica Cruel says, “We’re moving toward skincare that’s smarter, not harder.” Whether it’s through innovative ingredients like NAD+, game-changing tech devices, or eco-friendly solutions, the industry is redefining beauty for the modern consumer.
The future is clear, glowing, and, above all, thoughtful.

As we count the seconds to the sparkling new year, we embrace the magic of possibility, celebrating the opportunity for fresh starts and clean slates to put the past behind us. Father Time strikes midnight, and we are suddenly reborn through a worldwide celebration into an exciting chapter of our lives, resolving to be better, healthier, or more mindful versions of ourselves. While some of us keep those thoughtful resolutions, many become distracted by the rushing river of life and the storms that steal our attention, bringing us to our knees. Taking care of our families, difficult relationships, or navigating work often distracts us from our self-care. In this journey of shiny new beginnings, how do we resolve to keep those whispered promises to ourselves and grasp the future to be the person our heart wishes us to be? Here are a few ways to manifest the new you in the new year:
Time is money…and your most valuable asset. Rather than wait for a situation that forces you to treasure your time on this earth, seize this moment. Shift your thoughts to the wonderful things that make up your beautiful life and the people you’ve loved along the way. Positive “thoughts” carry an energy that vibrates on a higher frequency than fear, anger, or resentment. Try it. Notice
how different you feel when you think of something that gives you joy versus what upsets you. If you focus on things that are negative, or with people who drain you, you have, in essence, given them your money. Start by setting boundaries with people and situations that steal your time. Reconsider how you want to invest your time in yourself. Make a list of blessings and really feel that sparkling magic of gratitude…it’s contagious.
Pay attention…and observe. Your words, thoughts, and actions create your life. If you are complaining about your current situation, what are you actively doing to change it? Blaming someone else for your outcome in life keeps you stuck there— only you have the power to change it. When we stay in that cycle of hurt, it creates the space for disease in our body. Forgiveness helps you heal wounds and release toxic feelings that fester, but it never disregards the emotional impact that caused you harm. Write down what is bothering you. Some of the items on that list are temporary, and as ancient sages say, “This too shall pass.” Speak to a therapist, make an action plan, or think about making a “mind movie” with the images of the vision you want to create for your one precious life.
Create a ritual of self-care…and compassion. Your mental wellness is critical to your health and rules your physical body. Instead of feeling like you have to join a gym to be fit, start by just being mindful of getting a balance of healthy food in your day. Spiritual sages incorporate walking as part of their daily routine, also known as “forest bathing,” to reduce stress and create an opportunity to connect to yourself. Walking is an amazing time to connect to your intuition and ground yourself back in your body. Simple things like a hot bath, cup of tea, or a piece of dark chocolate are also great ways to center ourselves.
Most importantly, remember your breath that gives you life, and be conscious of when you stop breathing… it is critical to your survival. Just breathe three times and embrace compassion for yourself. All we have is this present moment. Right here, right now. Be selfish and invest your time, energy and love into your greatest asset: you.

CUTTING EDGE HYPERBARIC & HEALING CENTER
23166 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA 91364
818.839.2424 | cuttingedgehyperbaric.com
Cutting Edge & Hyperbaric Healing Center stands out in the San Fernando Valley by providing hospital-quality Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Advanced Wound Care in an intimate, private, spa-like setting. We use FDA-approved, medical-grade Sechrist monoplace chambers that pressurize the internal environment with sterile 100% oxygen, rather than room air. Our hyperbaric medical director, Dr. Pauline Jose, and our CEO and lead Advanced Wound Care doctor, Alireza Khosroabadi, DPM, lead our team.
A key differentiator is our use of 100% medical oxygen to pressurize the chambers—an approach few clinics offer. Most clinics pressurize chambers with room air and may or may not supplement oxygen through a mask or hood. By using sterile 100% oxygen, our chambers maximize oxygen absorption, benefiting the patient’s largest organ, the skin. Additionally, our system is anti-microbial, creating an oxygen-rich environment that inhibits pathogen survival. The oxygen delivery system, powered by a sterile liquid oxygen tank, ensures the patient is not exposed to germs that may exist in oxygen compressors or their surrounding areas.
Our center streamlines your healing experience by handling insurance billing for approved conditions while offering evidence-based treatments for faster recovery, reduced pain, and less inflammation. Conveniently located in Woodland Hills, adjacent to Calabasas, we specialize in diabetic wound care and cosmetic surgery recovery. We also offer ADA-compliant amenities and hyperbaric chamber gurneys to support your healing journey.

He has medium energy, walks well on a leash, and loves to “shake” for treats. Loyal and eager to bond, Apollo is looking for a family to include him in their adventures and give him the home he deserves.
is a 4.5-year-old German shepherd mix who came into the shelter with nine puppies, all now adopted. A wonderful mama, she raised her pups beautifully and is now ready for her forever home. Buffy has a special light about her, though she’s a bit shy at first. With time, she warms up and gives the best hugs. Meet Buffy and her adoptable friends today!

For the Salad
5 Medium-large red or golden beets
1 tablespoon (15mL) extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
freshly ground black pepper
1 small head fennel fronds reserved
For the Dressing
1 tablespoon (15mL) extra virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons (10mL) fresh orange juice
2 teaspoons (10mL) fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon balsamic glaze
kosher salt
freshly ground black pepper
2 navel oranges trimmed and cut into segments
Whipped Ricotta
1/2 cup whole fat ricotta cheese
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Rinse and scrub the beets under cold water. Place the beets in a large bowl and toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil and generous sprinkle of salt and pepper. Wrap each beet in aluminum foil and roast the beets on a sheet pan until easily pierced through with a knife, about 50-60 minutes, depending on the size of the beets. Keep beets wrapped in foil and set aside until cool. Meanwhile, trim the tops and bottom of the fennel bulb and slice in half lengthwise, removing the core. Then, slice each half crosswise into very thin slices (roughly 1/8inch thick). Once the beets are cool enough to handle, trim the ends, peel, and cut into quarter segments. In a large salad bowl, combine fennel and beets and add the olive oil, orange juice, lemon juice, balsamic glaze, and toss gently. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Prepare whipped ricotta
Combine ricotta, olive oil, salt, and pepper in food processor. Pulse until very smooth.
For the Cake
2 ½ cups (310g) all-purpose flour
2 ½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
1 tbsp lemon zest (about 1 large lemon)
¾ cup (180ml) unsalted butter, softened
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup (120ml) fresh lemon juice (from 2–3 lemons)
1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
¾ cup (100g) diced fresh strawberries
½ cup (80g) pomegranate arils
For the Vanilla Icing
2 ½ cups (300g) powdered sugar
¼ cup (60ml) unsalted butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla extract
2–3 tbsp milk (adjust for desired consistency)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans with parchment paper. In a medi-
um bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar and lemon zest. Rub them together with your fingers until fragrant. Add softened butter and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract. Gradually add the lemon juice and buttermilk, alternating with the dry ingredients, starting and ending with the dry mixture. Mix until just combined. Gently fold in the diced strawberries and pomegranate arils. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Vanilla Icing
In a medium bowl, beat softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Add vanilla extract and 2 tbsp of milk, beating until the icing reaches a spreadable consistency. Add more milk, 1 tsp at a time, if needed.

Rent an ATV or a dune buggy for an exhilarating ride over the sand hills, or explore the area on foot to take in its rugged beauty.
If you're visiting between late October and February, don't miss the Monarch Butterfly Grove. Thousands of Monarch butterflies migrate to this eucalyptus-shaded haven, creating a breathtaking spectacle of fluttering orange and black wings. For family-friendly fun, head to Dinosaur Caves Park. Perched atop a rugged bluff, this park features scenic trails with sweeping ocean views and a playful playground for kids. It's the perfect spot for a picnic or simply taking in the coastal breeze.
Pismo Beach is a haven for foodies, with a culinary scene that highlights fresh, local ingredients. Seafood takes center stage here, and no trip is complete without sampling the famous clam chowder. Splash Café, a local institution, is renowned for its award-winning chowder served in a warm sourdough bread bowl. Pair it with fresh seafood options for a meal that captures the essence of coastal cuisine.
For a more upscale dining experience, head to one of the oceanfront restaurants where you can savor dishes like grilled halibut, seared scallops, and locally sourced wines. Start your mornings at Esteem Coffee, a cozy café known for its artisan coffee and friendly atmosphere. Their expertly brewed lattes and locally sourced pastries will energize you for a day of exploring. The Central Coast's wineries are just a short drive inland, offering tastings of award-winning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in scenic vineyard settings.
Pismo Beach's charming downtown is perfect for a leisurely afternoon of shopping and exploring. From unique boutiques to surf shops, there's something for every taste. Don't forget to stop by one of the local art galleries to pick up a piece of coastal-inspired artwork as a keepsake. For shopping enthusiasts, the Pismo Beach Premium Outlets offer great deals on top brands, while the California Welcome Center provides tips and maps to enhance your visit.
Throughout the year, Pismo Beach hosts a variety of events that celebrate its rich culture and community. The annual Clam Festival in October is a highlight, featuring a parade, live music, and, of course, plenty of clams. During the summer months, the Concerts in the Park series fills the air with music and good vibes.
Pismo Beach offers accommodations to suit every traveler, from luxurious oceanfront resorts to charming boutique hotels and budget-friendly motels. Families will appreciate kid-friendly accommodations, while couples may opt for romantic vacation rentals with private gardens and sunset views. Pet owners can take advantage of pet-friendly hotels, ensuring no family member gets left behind. For those who love the great outdoors, beachfront RV parks offer year-round hook-ups and opportunities for picnicking, pier fishing, and wildlife watching. For a truly memorable stay, consider booking a room with a balcony overlooking the Pacific, where you can fall asleep to the sound of waves and wake up to breathtaking sunrises.
