PRIVATE CLUB GUIDE Clubbing Up WHILE NOT QUITE as strong as it was at the dawn of the new millennium, Colorado’s private club scene is thriving. Initiations and dues have rebounded, and waiting lists have returned. It’s not just the economy, either; Colorado’s clubs withstood the recession better than those in most states. Credit the success to a willingness among most clubs to shed the perception of being elitist, exclusionary and expensive. They’ve reinvented themselves by emphasizing year-round family programming, member incentives, community outreach and such non-golf activities as fitness classes, spa amenities and gathering areas with multiple televisions, craft beers, casual dining and indoor golf simulators. As the next 27 pages show, some combination of these factors makes today’s Colorado private club far more appealing and relevant than ever before.
