Dinner in White AUGUST 18, 2018 6:00 PM-10:00 PM

More than just another fundraiser. Since its first appearance in 2010, the Dinner in White™ has quickly become the summer event in Denver. Inspired by Diner Blanc held annually in Paris, this popular event is produced with the next generation in mind, balancing the right mix of philanthropy, fellowship, and fun. This exclusive event has a unique twist. The outdoor location remains a secret until one hour prior to the event when all paid guests are notified of the venue via email and social media. Like Diner Blanc in Paris, guests dress in all white and assemble together for Denver’s biggest “pop-up party.” The University of Colorado Cancer Center’s mission is to discover, develop and deliver breakthroughs in diagnosis, treatment and prevention that improve cancer care locally, nationally and globally. Net proceeds from this event will benefit collaborative cancer research at Colorado State University’s Flint Animal Cancer Center, a member of the CU Cancer Center consortium. Contributions less the estimated Fair Market Value (FMV) may be tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor. All gifts in support of the University of Colorado are processed and receipted by the CU Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable entity. CU Foundation ID # 84-6049811.

A NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE-DESIGNATED CONSORTIUM COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER

Dinner in White University of Colorado Cancer Center The University of Colorado Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center serving Colorado, and one of just 49 in the United States. CU Cancer Center is also one of 27 elite members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, setting the gold standard in national and international guidelines for clinical practice in oncology. CU Cancer Center’s scientists and physicians work at the University of Colorado Denver|Anschutz Medical Campus, University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado State University, University of Colorado Health, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and Denver Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Although advances in cancer research at CU Cancer Center have significant local impact and the clinical programs benefit hundreds of Coloradans, our scientific achievements have international reach and move the scientific community closer to more effective treatments and better quality of life.

Colorado State University’s Flint Animal Cancer Center The Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University is the world’s most comprehensive veterinary oncology center with nearly 100 scientists and clinicians. As a member of the CU Cancer Center consortium, the focus of the FACC is on comparative oncology research. Because cancer in dogs and humans is remarkably similar, comparative oncology research benefits both pets and people. FACC staff work to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of naturally occurring cancer in pets, and team with the human medical field to translate research findings to help people with cancer. The key to success is through clinical trials. Funding for studies at the FACC supports the discovery of new diagnostic testing and novel therapies for pet patients. The length of a clinical trial program at the FACC is often less than one year compared to five years in most human clinical trials. This accelerated timeline in pet studies can potentially decrease the time and cost of bringing new therapeutic options to people. Comparative oncology trials are a win-win in the fight to end cancer. Net proceeds from Dinner in White will benefit the FACC’s One Cure initiative. One Cure’s mission is to advance comparative oncology research through clinical trials. One Cure’s goals are to raise awareness and funding to support FACC's clinical trials program in the quest to find better treatment options for both pets and people on the way to finding a cure.

Dinner in White Facts about cancer In 2018 about 610,000 Americans are expected to die of cancer, almost 1,670 people per day. In Colorado, more than 1 in 2 men and 2 in 5 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Currently there are 15.5 million cancer survivors in the US (expected to increase to 26.1 million by 2040) Naturally occurring cancers in dogs and humans share many physical and biological features 1 in 5 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer. 50% of dogs over the age of 10

Research brings hope The CU Cancer Center is known for its robust and diverse Phase I clinical trials program —the only program of its kind in the region — and its personalized cancer treatment. CU Cancer Center has developed tests that find specific gene defects within an individual's cancer tumor, allowing each person’s cancerous tumors to be targeted with new drugs, positioning CU Cancer Center as a national leader for clinical trials of “targeted” therapies.
