Military Artistic Healing: Ceramics
Instructor: Sandy Friedman Level A – All levels welcome. This ceramics class will allow you to have an arts enrichment experience and unleash your inner creativity. You will learn the handbuilding techniques of pinch pot, coiling, and slab building to successfully create forms of your choosing. You will also explore how to add exterior texture on your pots as you create them. Additionally, you will learn glazing techniques and finally, have the opportunity to try throwing a pot on the potter’s wheel if you like. Supplies will be provided. Bemis ArtTrax: Clay Sculpture
Instructor: Cara McKinley Javernick Bemis ArtTrax is a new curriculum created to provide equitable and accessible pathways to the arts. ArtTrax courses introduce the fundamental concepts of painting, drawing, and sculpting through a series of engaging exercises. Emphasis is not on producing a finished work of art but on developing basic skills set through practice and repetition. No prior knowledge or experience in the medium is needed or expected. The courses proceed sequentially, each lesson building upon what was previously presented. Supplies will be provided. 16–Adult ATS1 $85 ArtTrax: Sculpture I Tue 4 wks 1/24–2/14 6:30–8 p.m. In this course, you will learn how to use vocabulary, tools, and the process of creating in clay to create a functional vessel using slab building and cone 5 glazing techniques. ATS2 $85 ArtTrax: Sculpture II Tue 4 wks 2/28–3/21 6:30–8 p.m. Building on knowledge from Sculpture I, you will learn how to design and create plaques and/or tiles out of slabs using hollowing techniques, finishing techniques, underglaze, and low fire glaze. ATS3 $85 ArtTrax: Sculpture III Tue 4 wks 4/4–4/25 6:30–8 p.m. Synthesizing the knowledge from Sculpture I and II, you will learn how to design and create a small sculpture using an armature, hollowing, and single firing techniques.
Wheel Throwing
Instructor: Jamie Howard Level I – This class is for those with some familiarity with the medium. This could include informal use of the medium outside of the classroom. Build on your basic knowledge of throwing and further your technical understanding of clay. More complex functional forms, refinement of throwing skills, advanced decorating and glazing techniques will be demonstrated. Introduction to Ceramic Sculpture
Instructor: Jantzen Peake Level 0 – This class is for the true beginner with no prior experience in the medium. A fun introduction course to handbuilding ceramic sculpture that will allow your imagination to soar. You will be guided on how to plan your sculpture through drawings. Take your concept drawing to the next level and create a threedimensional sculpture creating interest from every angle through unique texturing, glazing applications, and so much more! Learn handbuilding techniques and explore traditional and non-traditional tools to sculpt with, including creating some tools of your own. Take your ideas to the next level. Wheel Throwing
Instructor: Alyson Blanton Level 0 – This class is for the true beginner with no prior experience in the medium. Wheel throwing is an amazing activity that has been around for thousands of years. Come touch clay while you connect with the basic skills of this ancient pastime. Learn centering techniques to produce forms such as bowls, mugs, and vases. Crystalline Glazes
Instructor: Jamie Howard Level III – This class is for those who have significant experience in the medium — two or more classes or a year or more of experience. Learn how to properly make, apply, and fire crystalline glaze while discovering the most attractive forms for these spectacular glazes. Rock ’n’ Roll & Stamp: Clay Texturing Tools
Instructor: Rui Haagen Level A – All levels welcome. Make your own expressive set of clay texturing tools from clay! Build hollow balls, eggs, flying saucers, rolling cylinders, rolling coils, and stamps, then carve your unique textures into leather hard surfaces to be bisque fired and ready for texturing clay. The possibilities are endless! Impress plants, transfer your own designs, and create your own signature stamp. Press found objects in the clay and create sprig molds. The Magic of Raku: Texture & Wall Hangings
Instructor: Maggie Quinn Level A – All levels welcome. Learn the magic of the Raku firing process with special attention to texture on clay. Wheel Throwing: The Wolfe Approach

Mugs, Mugs, Mugs
Instructor: Rui Haagen Level A – All levels welcome. Have a blast learning to handbuild irresistible mugs from pre-textured clay slabs. Start with cylinder mugs with buttons, make footed mugs, then move on to bot-bellied square bottom mugs using fold-up flat patterns. Glazing for textured surfaces will be taught. Small Sculpture

Build a figurine, small bust, or even an abstract expression in this workshop style class. Learn to form, hollow out, coil build, sgraffito, and more! Throwing Off the Hump
Instructor: Rui Haagen Level II – This class is for those who have taken at least one class in the medium. Students should be comfortable with the basics of how to use and manipulate the medium. Rough center only once, fine center just the top, then throw off the hump! Learn to throw multiple repeated shapes; mugs, tea bowls, small plates and bowls, hollow ornaments, mortars and pestles, and spoon rests. Learn how to remove the pot from the hump and then how to trim that pot. You will be able to modify the form while still on the hump. Get creative and find more possibilities for throwing off the hump. Various glazing processes will be explored to finish off your works of art. Let the Clay Speak
Instructor: Sandy Friedman Level II – This class is for those who have taken at least one class in the medium. Students should be comfortable with the basics of how to use and manipulate the medium. Do you want to learn how to work better with clay and develop advanced techniques? Then, this is the class for you! This course is open to intermediate and advanced level students. You will learn new techniques to create more advanced forms in wheel throwing. You will also have the opportunity to pursue handbuilding, sculptural work, and/or a combination of any of these methods. Cuttin’ Up: Piercing and Carving Thrown Forms
Instructor: Rui Haagen Level II – This class is for those who have taken at least one class in the medium. Students should be comfortable with the basics of how to use and manipulate the medium. Push the envelope, cut through, and carve into clay walls! Experience the excitement of creating your own designs for carving and piercing a thrown or handbuilt vase, bowl, or sphere. Learn how to create and transfer your design onto a 3D ceramic form, and control clay hydration for the perfect surface. Functional or not, the textural and piercing possibilities are endless! Build a Container

Jars, Jars, Jars
Instructor: Rui Haagen Level III – This class is for those who have significant experience in the medium – two or more classes or a year or more of experience. Go from throwing small to throwing big! Create a tall thrown sculptural jar by stacking multiple smaller segments together. You will learn to connect two to three six- to eight-inch-tall thrown cylinders to build a jar. Once the jar and lid are thrown, modify the form through the addition of textured slabs to create sculptural elements. Explore the possibility of carving and/or sgraffito decoration. Just Scratching the Surface: Sgraffito in Clay
Instructor: Rui Haagen Level A – All levels welcome. Sgraffito comes from the Italian word for scratch, so just scratch the surface to reveal your design! Explore the exciting visual and textural possibilities of sgraffito decoration on white clay using contrasting and varied colored underglazes. Learn a cool hack to easily transfer design onto 2D and 3D surfaces! Make a tumbler and a platter. Look at wood or linoleum block cuts and prints for your textural design inspiration.
