Watercolor Mountain Landscape and Techniques

Instructor: Ronee Smith Discover new watercolor techniques and try something new! In this class, we will examine the art style of contemporary artist Jen Aranyi, practice drawing a simple, abstract mountain range, then outline it with black Sharpies, and finish the sky with watercolors to create a galaxy-like effect. We will discuss diverse ways to finish the foreground (in front of the mountains, such as trees, a river, a camping scene, etc.). Supplies will be provided. HAIKU

The Art of Haiku

Instructor: Dave Reynolds Level I – This class is for those with some familiarity with the medium. This could include informal use of the medium outside of the classroom. Haiku originated in the 1600s in Japan but remains widely read today. In fact, its concision and brevity lend itself to today’s life. In this class we will learn the history and various forms of haiku. We will read traditional haiku and examples from today, including the contemporary journal Modern Haiku. You will come away with a better understanding and appreciation of haiku, as well as a batch of your own finely tuned haiku. Supply list online. Drawing with Your Eyes, Head, Heart and Hands

Learn the practice of drawing through fascinating exercises, intense observations, refined coordination, and connecting with your subjects. Focusing on the Figure: Expressive Sumi Ink & Watercolor Figure Drawing

Instructor: Aly Davis Level I – This class is for those with some familiarity with the medium. This could include informal use of the medium outside of the classroom. In this course, you will create a series of short studies of the figure, both from observation and photograph. Utilizing paper, sumi ink and watercolor, we will explore contour line drawings to express our artistic individuality. In this class, there is no right or wrong way to draw, and by the end of the course you will have a new portfolio for your practice. Learn to paint florals in the style of Vincent Van Gogh with Dena Peterson, painter/ animator for the Academy Award nominated film, Loving Vincent. Vincent believed in painting what he felt, rather than just what he saw. We will capture the feel and energy of flowers, rather than simply rendering them, combining Vincent’s techniques with your own in this supportive and fun class. Supply list online. Instructor: Zandra Zieman-Foster Level I – This class is for those with some familiarity with the medium. This could include informal use of the medium outside of the classroom. One Ring to rule them all! Rings made of tiny beads are fun to wear and fun to make. One ring may not be enough to satisfy your creative appetite, and you may find it hard to stop thinking of more possibilities! Previous beading experience is helpful for this class as we will be using Delica beads, graph paper, and the flat Peyote stitch method. $15 materials fee due to the instructor on the day of class. Create fabric paper on muslin, prepared papers, and design with image transfers on tea bags, rice paper, handmade papers, and more! Discover the historic process of paste paper (paper design with colored paste). Create fabric fusion collages adhered to simple books and canvases. This mixed media class focuses on layering color with the use of pastel, paints, inks, and many new products. Learn to combine various materials on prepared surfaces, textured papers, and board, while creating fabulous visual and tactile textural works. We will explore wet and dry pastel techniques and Gelli printing and stenciling, layer upon layer! Learn innovative approaches in art. Wheel Thrown and Altered Bowls
