This specially designed program introduces the instruments of the orchestra to very young children in venues throughout the metro area. Our 16-piece orchestra and narrator perform an interactive program which incorporates storytelling, singing, and movement with music. This year’s program, The Ugly Duckling, will delight young children, teachers, and parents. YOUTH CONCERTS Symphonic Time Travel Travel through time with your Colorado Symphony as we build the orchestra from its humble beginnings in the Baroque era of the 17th century through its growth during the Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, and Contemporary eras. Students will be guided through history using the orchestra as a sonic time machine! The orchestra will literally increase in size before their eyes as they learn the mechanics, engineering, and creative ingenuity behind some of the greatest symphonic music of all time. Historical timelines, fun orchestra and composer facts, and listening maps will be included with the Colorado State Music Standards and Common Core-aligned materials featuring this program’s repertoire, enabling classroom study in advance of the field trip. Grades 3-5 This imaginative, integrated arts program highlights the relationships between music and life sciences. Eco-systems and metamorphosis are combined with music concepts of theme and variations, and melodic development. This program combines well with Once Upon A Time: Aesop’s Times Two for Grades Pre K-2.
Mathnotes
Grades 3-5 An innovative and popular integrated arts program highlighting the relationships between music and mathematics. Combines well with Once Upon A Time: The Steadfast Tin Soldier for Grades Pre K-2.
Supermusic!
Grades 6-12 In this engaging program, students learn how composers effectively use leitmotif, themes, textures and rhythms to support film and television narratives. This program features music of such great film composers as John Williams, Klaus Badelt, Howard Shore, and Danny Elfman.
Classical Kitchen Sink
Grades 6-12 This thought-provoking program explores the development of classical music through a historical timeline and can incorporate multimedia elements highlighting art and architecture that help define each major historical period. CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS Music, Language Arts, Math, Science, History COST $400-$600 for 2 back-to-back performances NOTES Financial assistance is available. Not all programs can be combined.
Master Mentors
Grades K-12 This highly flexible program provides support for music students of any grade. At the request of the teacher, Colorado Symphony musician Teaching Artists lead instrument demonstrations, listening/singing/movement workshops, coachings for band/orchestra students, advice for students interested in pursuing a career in the musical performing arts, composition/ improvisation, or another specific request. CURRICULUM CONNECTION Music COST $120 per hour per Colorado Symphony Teaching Artist NOTES Financial assistance is available.
