WELCOME FROM THE COLORADO SYMPHONY BALL 2013 CO-CHAIRS It is our honor to chair The Colorado Symphony Ball 2013, an evening that is sure to be as spectacular as the orchestra it supports. As Co-Chairs of tonight’s event, we’ve all basically been friends for around twenty years. Rich causes trouble. Bob stands around being good-looking. Ed drives the get-away car. Lindsey, Jenni and Jilliann sort of put up with it all. Tonight, we cherish the opportunity to turn over a new leaf and do some good for a change. While, of course, partying our tails off. The Colorado Symphony is the kind of cause that we love to support – it’s an incredible organization that plays a vital role in Denver’s cultural profile. We’re thrilled to take the stage with one of the finest orchestras in the coun-
try, and bring a new side of rock n’ roll to this wonderful crowd. A city can never be truly great unless it has a world-class symphony orchestra, and we’re here to ensure that the Colorado Symphony is around for a long time to come. Thank you for coming, and thank you for your commitment to making Colorado a premier cultural destination. Lindsay and Bob Deibel Jenni and Ed Haselden Jilliann Parker and Rich Kylberg
WELCOME FROM THE COLORADO SYMPHONY BOARD CO-CHAIRS On behalf of the Board of Trustees and our own orchestra, welcome to The Colorado Symphony Ball 2013. The Colorado Symphony’s longstanding tradition of innovation continues tonight, as The Moderators take the stage with the Rocky Mountain Region's premier orchestra for an incomparable melding of the classic and the contemporary. Tonight’s festivities pay thrilling tribute to a year of success for the Colorado Symphony – a year that was made possible by the unrelenting support of our sponsors and community. The Colorado Symphony’s pioneering programs and acclaimed artistry have propelled the organization forward as the heart of Colorado’s cultural enterprise, and the orchestra is determined to stay firmly rooted as one of the region’s finest artistic and educational institutions.
During the 2012/13 season and in seasons to come, the Colorado Symphony is focused on developing a sustainable business model while advancing the orchestra’s impact across the Front Range. The next few years will represent experimentation, challenges and learning experiences as the organization redefines itself as a true orchestra of the 21st century. The support of the community remains an integral component of the Colorado Symphony’s sustained success. Thank you for joining in tonight’s celebration and for your continuing support of this extraordinary orchestra. Mary Rossick Kern and Jerome H. Kern

THE 2013 MARGARET PHIPPS AWARD PRESENTED TO
the musicians of the colorado symphony orchestra The Board of Trustees is thrilled to present the 2013 Margaret Phipps award to the musicians of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. This prestigious honor recognizes long-standing service to the Colorado Symphony and the broader arts community, and the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to bestow the award upon the orchestra. Co-Chair of the Board and CEO of the Colorado Symphony Jerome H. Kern stated of the decision that “The Board of Trustees is honored to recognize the loyalty, contributions and dedication demonstrated by the musicians for more than two decades as the Colorado Symphony and prior to that as the Denver Symphony. ” The musicians have continually demonstrated a collaborative spirit rare in the orchestral industry, and their flexibility is the driving force behind the Colorado Symphony’s transformation
into a 21st century orchestra. They delivered world-class performances even during the Symphony’s most challenging periods, and their willingness to go above and beyond the industry standard of service is shown on a daily basis. Orchestra members travel to schools and venues across Colorado to ensure that every child and every community can experience the transformative power of symphonic music. The Colorado Symphony established the Margaret Phipps award in 1993 to honor the philanthropic contributions and memory of Margaret Rodgers Phipps. A Denver native, Mrs. Phipps was celebrated throughout Colorado for her remarkable devotion to the arts community. She served two terms as president of the Denver Symphony Association, and was a passionate advocate of music and the arts.

ABOUT THE MODERATORS The Moderators, Denver's premier rock-n-roll cover band, play more than just music - they play a vital role in the Denver philanthropic community. Comprised of CEOs from seven of Denver's largest and smallest companies, The Moderators have been playing together for nearly six years. They began as members in the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) who came together to make a cameo appearance at a YPO chapter event, and they’ve been playing together ever since. In that time, they have raised in excess of one million dollars for various charitable organizations in the Denver Metro Area. “We are thrilled to be partnering with one of Denver’s most iconic nonprofit institutions to present such an over-the-top musical event,” says Ed Haselden, event Co-Chair, guitarist of The Moderators and CEO of Haselden Construction. “ ‘From Bach… To Rock’ has allowed us to bring all of our musical talents, our community connections, and our time commitment to produce the most spectacular fundraising event the Colorado Symphony has experienced in recent years.”
