Cocktail Hour Wine Selection Matua New Zealand Marlbough Savignon Blanc 2014 How it tastes Refreshingly good! This is classic Marlborough Savvy, with bright aromatic herbal notes and a complete array of aromas the style is famous for. Think sage and fresh mint, followed by delicious tropical fruits. This year, the palate has vibrant citrus and pineapple flavors with great length and structure. This is a real doozie.

Souverain North Coast Cabernet 2012 Winemaker’s Comments This storied wine is a celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby-purple in color, this Cabernet boasts bright and vivid aromas of roasted vanilla, mocha and baking spices which meet elegant layers of blackberry and ripe cherry flavors. The full mouth feel is extracted and rich and framed by thick mouth coating tannins. The fully balanced fruit, tannins and acidity, lead to a juicy and lengthy finish.

Souverain North Coast Chardonnay 2012 Winemaker’s Comments This storied wine is a celebrated Chardonnay. Inviting aromas of roasted pears, lemon citrus and subtle baking spice meet elegant layers of pineapple, lemonlime and crème brûlée flavors. The full-bodied Chardonnay offers a lush texture and balanced acidity. The wine has a lengthy, flavorful finish.

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz 2012 A medium to full-bodied wine with plum and fleshy/sweet dark fruits. Chocolate custard common to both aroma and palate. Pecan tart, wafer biscuit, vanilla pod. A seamless marriage between fruit, tannin and oak

The wine is well balanced with a great core of fruit and bright acidity. Chateau St Jean Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2010 TASTINGNOTES Bright and inviting aromas of cherry, raspberry, and cola greet in the glass of this Sonoma County Pinot Noir. The aromas lead to generous fruit palate with flavors of raspberry, plum and spicy notes of allspice and cinnamon. THE 2015 MARGARET PHIPPS AWARD PRESENTED TO

karen & mike Long ARROW ELECTRONICS The Colorado Symphony established the Margaret Phipps Award in 1993 to honor the philanthropic contributions and memory of Margaret Rodgers Phipps. A Denver native, Mrs. Phipps was celebrated throughout Colorado for her remarkable devotion to the arts community. She served two terms as the president of the Denver Symphony Association and was a passionate advocate of music and the arts. This year it is with gratitude that the Colorado Symphony (CSO) presents the 2015 Margaret Phipps Award to Mike and Karen Long. The Colorado Symphony’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to bestow this award on the Longs in acknowledgment of their generosity to the CSO. Mike Long is chairman, president and CEO of Arrow Electronics, Inc., a presenting sponsor of the CSO. He guided Arrow, Colorado’s Fortune 140 company, as it entered into an innovative corporate partnership with the CSO in 2012. The partnership has proven hugely successful and now serves as a model for the Symphony’s other sponsor relationships.

Mike has been with Arrow since 1991, serving as senior vice president and chief operating officer before being named CEO in 2009. He is an emeritus member of the Denver Zoo’s board of trustees. Karen Long has worked in sales and accounting for companies such as Lucent Technologies, Marconi Communications and Avaya. Her charitable work includes Families First, Cherish the Children, Volunteers of America and Children’s Diabetes Foundation. Among the highlights of the partnership between Arrow and the CSO is the collaboration of the original music that is featured in Arrow’s “Five Years Out” branding campaign and serves as the company’s “musical logo.” The Symphony included the full Arrow composition in its recent “Inside the Score” concert featuring new composers that was attended by 600 Arrow employees. Arrow has also presented a wide variety of CSO programming over the years, including Animaniacs LIVE; Gilbert & Sullivan: H.M.S. Pinafore; Cirque Musica and the Pops Series.

TONIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT THE COLORADO SYMPHONY The mission of the Colorado Symphony is to create extraordinary musical experiences that transport today's listener, from the best of the past to the edge of the future. The region’s only full-time professional orchestra, the Colorado Symphony embraces a tradition of musical excellence by presenting a diverse array of symphonic performances throughout the year. The Colorado Symphony performs in Boettcher Concert Hall and On Location throughout the state and region. Programs include education and outreach initiatives, and concert series for all types of listeners, including Masterworks, Pops, Holiday, Family, Inside the Score and Symphony on the Rocks at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. By presenting music that is both timeless and inspiring, while taking risks with new musical collaborations and interactive concerts, the Colorado Symphony is committed to reaching global audiences with the use of state-of-the-art digital media via live streaming and concert downloads. Scott O’Neil, Resident Conductor This is Scott O’Neil’s ninth season with the Colorado Symphony, and his fifth full season as resident conductor. O’Neil maintains a strong commitment to making music of the highest quality accessible to young audiences. He served as associate conductor for the Utah Symphony, which he joined in August 2000. In addition to a variety of guest conductor appearances throughout the U.S., O’Neil is prominently featured with the Colorado Symphony as conductor and creator of the Inside the Score series, in addition to appearances on each of the Masterworks, Family, Pops and Holiday series. THE DAVITA BLUES ALL STARS Born over a decade ago, the DaVita Blues All Stars have always been a band exclusively made up of teammates. Employed throughout the DaVita Village, the band comes from all departments and areas of the Village. The band members are from field operations to IT, and from So Cal to Nashville to the Bronx. The band’s purpose is to serve DaVita’s 51,000 teammates who serve the needs of 160,000 patients and advance

the need to address Kidney Disease. Through raising funds from performances, CD and Tshirt sales, they support Kidney Disease Education, and the provision of Dialysis Services in emerging nations that cannot afford to provide this vital, life-saving service. In addition to supporting the community, The DaVita Blues All Stars have also participated in the Fortune Battle of the Bands competition, reaching the finals competition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH in 2006 and 2010. The band is happy to do their part through the universal language of music; equal parts of funk, country and Rock and Roll. Members: Shaun Collard, Lead Guitar and Vocals (Vice President, Clinical Operations); Terri Lowe, Vocals (Facility Administrator); Dan Rolls, Saxophone (Senior Programmer Analyst); Jon Amichetti, Bass and Vocals (Desktop Support Analyst); Shane Simon, Vocals (National Sr. Director, Home Hemodialysis); Nick Wood, Keyboards (IT Director); Steven J. Casey, Drums and Keyboards (Manager Creative Services); Dave Hoerman, Drums and Keyboards (Vice President Wisdom); Jim Greenwood, Rhythm Guitar (Vice President Wisdom). TRACKSUIT WEDDING Tracksuit Wedding is the musical collaboration of Libby Anschutz and Ali Pashel Frankfurt, two grade school friends from Denver, Colorado. As adults, they reconnected and discovered their mutual passion for rock-and-roll music. They surrounded themselves with a group of highly talented musicians and spent several years focused on performing iconic hits from the 1970’s and 1980’s. Following a successful summer of playing some of Colorado’s biggest venues, including Red Rocks and Jazz Aspen Snowmass, the women began composing original songs in late 2014. The early results have yielded powerful and heartfelt songwriting, influenced by a collection of vintage rock and pop sounds. The band brings passion and outstanding musicianship to its live shows, which makes for an experience of pure energy and entertainment.
