7. The Art of Lucas Beaufort

Lucas Beaufort, a W Hotels featured artist, is a painter, illustrator, filmmaker, and photographer whose vibrant, colorful work is inextricably linked with the cultures of street art and skateboarding, two of his abiding passions. Blending elements of abstraction and figuration, Beaufort’s work features tightly knit arrangements of interweaving, boldly-colored shapes, merging abstract patterns with more recognizable forms that resemble human figures, animals, and flowers.

8. San Francisco

Often cloaked by “Karl the Fog” and tucked inside its eponymous bay, San Francisco is packed with diverse cultures, scenic beauties, and fascinating stories. Though it was founded by the Spanish in 1776, it only started shining in the spotlight when gold was discovered in 1848. That ensuing California Gold Rush helped to make the City by the Bay into a burgeoning hub for commerce and culture within the American West. Continuing to grow and thrive throughout its rich history, San Francisco has become an epicenter for technological and socio-political progress over the past sixty years.

Like the city itself, the San Francisco skyline is brimming with unique eccentricities. Its architectural landscape includes the beautiful Beaux-Arts Flood Building, the imposing Neo-Gothic Russ Building, and the beloved modernist Transamerica Pyramid. In short, San Francisco has an unmatched vibrancy that beckons visitors and residents alike to this gilded city on a hill.

9. Golden Gate Bridge

Spanning a remarkable length of 1.7 miles, the Golden Gate Bridge stands at the entrance to San Francisco Bay as a symbol of American innovation and resilience. Originally planned as a hybrid cantilever-suspension bridge, the suspension bridge design eventually won out thanks to the ardent suggestions from Leon Moisseiff. Irving Morrow gave the Golden Gate Bridge its distinctive Art Deco style, iconic International Orange hue, and dramatic lighting.

As the Golden Gate Bridge’s Chief Engineer, Joseph Strauss led the charge into making the bridge become a reality from its groundbreaking in 1933 to its completion in 1937. Together these three trailblazing men would create the world's most spectacular bridge. Today, this engineering marvel serves as both a vital transportation link and a major travel destination for millions of visitors from around the world.

10. San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is one of the United States’ largest museums that is dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Founded by Grace Morley in 1935 as the San Francisco Museum of Art, this pioneering cultural center was one of the first museums to recognize photography as a fine art. Their enormous collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs, and media arts are stored within a dazzling building designed in 1995 by Mario Botta and expanded upon by Snøhetta in 2016. In keeping with its photogenic linage, SFMOMA also boasts the Pritzker Center for Photography – the largest gallery, research, and interpretive space for photography of any art museum in the United States. Passionately sharing modern art in the greater Bay Area community, SFMOMA helps to open the minds of its visitors through its unparalleled collections, exhilarating exhibits, and engaging programs.

11. Oracle Park

Oracle Park is a simply unmatched experience that combines charm, character, and breathtaking views into one ballpark. Designed by HOK Sport and opened in 2000 as Pacific Bell Park, the stadium was renamed to SBC Park and AT&T Park before acquiring its current name of Oracle Park. Brimming with Giants lore and ephemera, Oracle Park features unique attractions on both its left and right fields. For the left field, the colossal contour Coca-Cola bottle and the world’s largest baseball glove give the arena a sense of childlike whimsy. However, it is McCovey Cove just behind right field where the action really gets going. Named after Giants legend Willie McCovey, this cavernous cove offers fans the chance to catch a splash hit – home runs hit by Giants players that plop down upon the wispy waves of San Francisco Bay. All told, Oracle Park is an unforgettable adventure that is sure to make any Giants fan smile with glee.

12. San Francisco Ferry Building

What makes the Ferry Building San Francisco’s most illustrious landmark? Simply put, it’s due to its strategically centralized location on Market Street, its history as the city’s primary transportation portal, and its dramatic clock tower. Opened in 1898, the Ferry Building became the focal point for anyone arriving by boat, as passengers became entranced with its elegantly repeating arches and overhead skylights. Sadly, the good times had to end eventually, as the opening of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges in the 1930’s made commuting by ferry essentially obsolete. Thankfully, the Ferry Building was revitalized when it reopened in 2003. The Ferry Building now features a world class public food Marketplace that serves a mouthwatering cornucopia of cuisines from around the Bay Area. Whether you’re having a quick bite, traveling by boat, or just admiring its architectural beauty, there’s really nothing quite like the San Francisco Ferry Building.

13. San Francisco City Hall

The seat of government for San Francisco, San Francisco City Hall is both the People’s Palace and a frequently visited historic destination. Steel, granite, and marble make up San Francisco's symbol of resilience after the Great Quake of 1906. Designed by Arthur Brown, Jr. and completed for the World's Fair of 1915, the world was awestruck by the glitzy exterior detailing, the all-encompassing grand staircase, and the massive 307 foot dome. Over the past 100-plus years, the building has been home to major political upheavals, tragic deaths, groundbreaking celebrations, and cinematic magic. Today City Hall serves as an excellent site for weddings, as cheers regularly echo through the rotunda to celebrate these holy matrimonies.
