Friends of Historic Saugerties is pleased to present a TALK BY LOCAL AUTHOR VERNON BENJAMIN ENTITLED, “NOTABLE WOMEN IN HUDSON VALLEY HISTORY.” 2 pm in the Community Room of the
Saugerties Public Library, 91 Washington Ave., Saugerties, NY. (845) 246-4317. Vernon Benjamin is an adjunct lecturer who has taught Hudson Valley history, art history and writing at Marist College, and has taught at Bard College as well. He was a journalist for 15 years and an aide to Assemblyman Maurice Hinchey in the New York State legislature from 1982-92. He currently serves as Special Operations Coordinator for his hometown of Saugerties, New York. His most current books include: The History of the Hudson River Valley: From Wilderness to the Civil War (2014) and The History of the Hudson River Valley: From the Civil War to Modern Times (2016). Overlook Press, New York. All Friends of Historic Saugerties events are free and open to anyone who is interested in history. COACH HOUSE PLAYERS – 12 Augusta St., Kingston will be opening its 67th season with Arthur Wing Pinero’s romantic fantasy “The Enchanted Cottage”. After its Broadway run which began in 1921, the movie version starring Robert Young and Dorothy McGuire opened in 1945. When pilot Oliver Bashforth returns home from the war disfigured and maimed, he wants to hide his ugliness from his family and decides to live alone in a seaside cottage. He befriends Laura Pennington, a homely, gentle woman. The two marry for companionship and eventually fall in love. They discover their feelings for each other transforms them. He appears handsome to her and she appears beautiful to him. Coach House’s presentation of “The Enchanted Cottage” is under the direction of Sue Regan, and assisted by Linda Primiano. The cast includes Scott Woolley as Oliver Bashforth, Grace Jarrold as Laura Pennington, Betsy LaPolla as Mrs. Minnett, Ken Thompson as Major Hillgrove, Mike Harelick as Rigg, Lynnann Madison as Mrs. Smallwood, Rich Quinn as Mr. Smallwood, Bill Russell as Rev.
