Group exercise classes add fun to the fitness. With a motivating instructor leading the way, people have been flocking to studios and clubs for decades and today’s options are growing as fast as ever. “We have seen a definite change in the make up of our membership and the need for more creative classes and programming options,” comments Alison King, IXL’s Club Manager at the Saugerties club location. IXL Health and Fitness has offered group exercise classes like Zumba, Yoga and Body Sculpting in their large studio in Saugerties for nearly a decade and that is still the foundation of its dynamic program. Over the last two years, new classes and 30 minute formats customized to meet the needs of members committed to fitting workouts into their busy schedules have been launched. The introduction of TRX, the leading suspension training equipment, and airdyne bikes with the Windjammer program began the fusion of group classes and specific training equipment unique to IXL. That is just the tip of the group class programming going on now and coming soon to IXL. “One of the most unique combinations in our group programming involves treadmills,” sites the club manager. “Tread and Trim is a 30 minute class for a small group of members challenged by an instructor to follow her commands as they turn that treadmill into a windy and hilly road in Ulster county without ever leaving the club.” IXL launched the famous P90x, Insanity and PIYO LIVE programs earlier this year. Not stopping there, a small group training class curriculum is in development for this fall to add another component unique in design and focused on the short and long term goals of its participants. “The expansion of our group exercise studio will be completed in time for the ‘back to fitness’ crowd this September,” announced Ms. King. It looks like IXL Health and Fitness is not sitting on its laurels as the defending and 3-time winner of the Hudson Valley Magazines Readers poll as the Best of the Hudson Valley.
