THE SEA OF SUNSET This is the land the sunset washes, These are the banks of the Yellow Sea; Where it rose, or whither it rushes, These are the western mystery! Night after night her purple traffic Strews the landing with opal bales; Merchantmen poise upon horizons, Dip, and vanish with fairy sails. - Emily Dickins
Sunset is a special moment in a day, which divides the day and night. In ancient myth, it represents the end of time and the death of belief. It is the time when the god of Sun gives his carriage to the goddess of moon. Red-violet is the dominant color of sunset. It varies from the warm color of sunshine to the cool color of moonlight, which connects two different worlds, the day and the night. During just half an hour, the sky slightly changes from red to purple. This delicate process is the magic of red-violet. It is romantic, poetic and also full of emotion. In this book Sunset, I intend to explore the relationship between color and emotion, how color gradients can affect us, and how they act as the context of information. This book is an art experiment, which stresses on abstract expressions and visual auras. Medium is another important element in this book. I will study on the differences of the same color painting, print and also digital.

A book is like a journey. There is a start, and there will be an end. This book contains lots of my personal stories, and each of them is a journey. Some are latest that I can still tell tiny details about the trip; some pictures were taken a long time ago, even I questioned myself when I saw them, “Have I been to these places? All these sunset pictures, no matter they are mine, taken by my friends, or from someone I do not know, are extremely beautiful. They represent the brilliant color palates created by the nature, which hit our souls without words. We just feel it.
