Expansion of solar energy capacity
In 2023, we increased the capacity of our solar plants from 145 megawatt hours (MWh) to 370 MWh. This expansion will enable us to cover up to 40% of our energy requirements from renewable sources at our Swiss site and up to 25% at our German site with 260 MWh. Our products make a significant contribution to the long-term preservation of natural teeth and dental health. Other areas of sustainability relate to the environment, social issues and corporate management. CO2 reduction strategy
The increased use of solar energy is an important element of our broader strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We have set ourselves the goal of reducing direct and indirect CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2) per CHF million in sales by 80% by 2040. Another building block is the continuous transition from combustion to electric vehicles within the company vehicle fleet. In addition, 20 charging stations are available free of charge to employees and visitors at the locations.
Sustainable management
In addition to reducing emissions, we are working on having all production sites certified in accordance with the globally recognized ISO 14001 standard by 2028. This sets clear requirements for an effective environmental management system in order to systematically improve the environmental aspects of the company. The efforts we are making to achieve certification are proof that we take our environmental responsibility seriously and minimize negative environmental impacts as far as possible.
Positive Radicant SDG Impact Rating
The Swiss bank Radicant has assessed us with regard to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and came to the following conclusion: COLTENE makes an important contribution to SDG 3 “Good health and well-being”. The development of innovative solutions in the field of dentistry plays a central role here. It also contributes to SDG 12 goal “Responsible consumption and production”. The manufacture of sterilization and disinfection devices enables the reuse of medical products, reduces waste and conserves resources.
These environmental initiatives are part of a comprehensive approach aimed at achieving our sustainability goals. Promoting awareness and commitment to environmentally friendly action among our employees is also a high priority for the company. Thanks to technological innovations and compliance with various environmental standards, we act as a responsible company, determined to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to global sustainability.
