It’s Famously Hot Actually, the weather is temperate yearround, resulting in the perfect complement to Columbia’s sizzling meeting climate. Forty-five inches of rain fall annually to help cool things down when the mercury rises. It’s All About Location From the moment you land at Columbia’s bright, cheerful airport (yes, that’s right, the airport is cheerful, complete with rocking chairs inviting you to sit for a spell), you know Columbia is going to be a welcoming, rejuvenating place. If the majority of your group is driving in, they have easy access from I-20, I-26 and I-77 — one of only 10 U.S. cities that can boast being at the intersection of three major interstates — while I-85 and I-95 are just a short drive away. Once in town, your group won’t encounter the gridlock that plagues other metropolitan destinations and can easily get from one area of town to the other in less than 15 minutes.

Carolina’s past begins at the South Carolina State House, a historic building with a Civil War past, notable monuments and a gallery with portraits of country leaders such as Robert E. Lee, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Spend a historic afternoon at one of Columbia’s many fascinating museums. The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum guides visitors through South Carolina’s distinguished martial heritage, from the Revolutionary War to the present. Take a walk in the steps of an enslaved Charlestonian midwife, the architect of the Washington Monument or among the wealthy in Civil War times on Historic Columbia’s House Museum Tours. Top the day off with a real South Carolina barbecue dinner filled with the local flavors of sweet tea, barbecue and delicious peach cobbler.

Park, Saluda Shoals Park or Congaree National Park. Embark on a wildlife tour of the world with a trip to the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. An excellent afternoon of greenery can be found at the State Farmers Market or The Farmers Shed; savor the fruits, flowers and trees growing year-round. Take a daytime or evening boat tour of Lake Murray’s innumerable coves and islands.
Artistic Columbia’s cultural scene beckons visitors’ artistic sides. Gaze at the work of international artists from ancient Rome and Greece to Impressionists and modern-day American masters at the Columbia Museum of Art. Spend an evening with a stunning music, dance or theatrical performance by Columbia’s renowned talent. The Columbia City Ballet is the city’s largest performing arts organization. Columbia offers an eclectic array of options for live music. Enjoy a down-home bluegrass band, the soothing vocals of our choral group, the Palmetto Mastersingers, or a stirring performance by

the SC Philharmonic orchestra. Columbia is also home to a vibrant theatrical scene including the oldest community theater in the U.S., the Town Theatre, and the South Carolina Shakespeare Company.
Adventurous Choose a Columbia adventure. Outdoor escapes, heartpounding athletic games and nightlife hot spots are just a few of the exciting ones available. Spend the morning experiencing the rush of Columbia’s rivers with kayaking or canoeing trips down the Congaree, Broad and Saluda, which all flow through the downtown area. University of South Carolina Gamecock games are true to their feisty mascot, fighting tooth and nail to win games in a variety of sports. Watch the Columbia Blowfish baseball team heat up the summer season at Capital City Stadium. When the adventure ends, take a break with a Zen-like spa experience in one of our many spas. Enjoy a rejuvenating massage or a refreshing facial as you cool down with the night.
Columbia offers your group ample private dining and reception facilities for the “official” event, plus enough variety to keep your guests satisfied when they’re in charge of their own sustenance.

Arguably one of the most alluring aspects of Columbia’s dining scene is the proprietors’ propensity to refurbish old train stations, warehouses and storefronts into hot dining spots. Fans love how Columbia is perfectly suited for on-the-fly decision making about what’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Walk along any of Columbia’s entertainment districts, including the Vista, Five Points or Devine Street, and you’ll stumble upon an establishment that lures you in with the smells and sounds wafting through the door. Or you can choose to rely on the expertise of a local to guide your culinary quest.
Want to know the best part? The price is right. You get the variety and quality of a bigger city wrapped up with the affordability and graciousness of your Columbian hosts. Now that’s a recipe for success!

Previously the sales assistant for the Columbia CVB, Taylor has a vast knowledge of the Columbia area and is excited to share it with meeting planners.
