BIA GOLF CLASSIC The 32nd Annual BIA Golf Classic presented by 84 Lumber was held Thursday, May 18, at the Fort Jackson Golf Club. The annual tournament raises funds for the Building Industry Charitable Foundation and supports their scholarship program and other charitable donations throughout the year. Over 280 members and guests took to the links for a beautiful day of golf and networking. The tournament was held on two 18-hole courses and features a variety of “wacky games” and extra contests. New this year, “Shoot for the Fort”, golfers had the opportunity to fire a golf ball out of a modified AR-15 rifle with proceeds benefitting Fort Jackson’s Centennial Celebration. The rifle would send the ball up to 400 yards downrange and counted as the drive! This event is too vast to cover in an article, so we’ll let the photos do the work. Big thanks to the members who volunteered on the Golf Classic Committee, to the many sponsors who helped make it such a fun day and to the volunteers who helped set-up, check-in and tear-down all day long. Committee Members: Chandler Coggeshall – Chairman, Kimberly Branham, Ron Byers, Ed Byrd, Parris Claytor, Scott Fincannon, Richard Hitchler, Matt Hogan, Libby Hunt, Brandon Jeffcoat, David Rumsey, Claudia Satterfield, Mike Satterfield, Vicky Smith and Bruce Stanley.
The Hood Construction team was the Overall Winner this year.

All HPBC Members are invited to attend council meetings at no charge. Anyone interested in learning more about high-performance building is also invited to attend our meetings (fee may apply). In April the HPBC met at BMC in Columbia (formerly Stock Building Supply) for an On-site Experience. Those in attendance were treated to lunch and had the opportunity to learn about the many energy-saving products offered by Marwin including insulated attic access hatches, covers and their disappearing stairway. We also learned more about products and services offered by BMC. Thanks to BMC for hosting us, and to Marwin for the great information.

CHiP News The Certified High Performance (CHiP) Home Program is managed by the High Performance Building Council of the BIA of Central SC. The program is based on the 2012 National Green Building Standard and helps members certify homes to the program at very reasonable costs. Since the program began in 2012, we have certified nearly 3500 homes. Our active builder participants include Epic Homes, LLC, Essex Homes, Great Southern Homes, Inc. and Paradime Construction. We are happy to announce recent certifications of new homes in the Lyon Street neighborhood in downtown Columbia. The neighborhood is a product of the Columbia Housing Development Corporation and is being built under the supervision of Mungo Construction. Five single-family homes have been certified in the CHiP Home Program so far and more are expected to be certified soon. Learn more about CHiP at www.CHiPHomeProgram.com.

BIA MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS BIA of Central SC Members have been meeting for lunch at new and exciting locations this year. Back in April we met at Spirit Communications Park for a ballpark-style lunch. Members enjoyed hotdogs and hamburgers while networking in the beautiful facility in the heart of downtown Columbia. We met again for lunch in May, but this time we visited Senate’s End near the Congaree River. This meeting was a little more formal than the ballpark meeting as it included a visit from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster. The Governor spoke about the importance of skilled laborers and that our school system must turn out more trade workers, and fast. We took care of some regular business at the meeting as well. See the previous two pages for the new members and SPIKE Club recognition at this meeting. Our next General Membership Meeting will be held in August. We’ll announce the winners of the 16th annual Columbia Remodelers Awards and have a special guest speaker. Please join us for that if you can.
