Member News Watkins Achieves Certified Master Builder Designation David Watkins of GreenSense Homes, LLC is the newest home builder to earn the designation of Certified Master Builder. “This means that David has gone far beyond merely holding a state builders license,” said Master Builder Chairman Edward Friend. Friend explained, “The Master Builder Program was created by the Home Builders Association of South Carolina as a way to increase the professionalism of home builders in the state and to provide an increased level of protection for consumers.” 8
www.columbiabuilders.com
In order to reach this level, Watkins had to participate in 20 hours of continuing education, provide reference letters from customers and business associates, assure a one-year warranty on all his homes and show at least five years’ experience in home building. The education alone sets him apart from all other builders because the state of South Carolina does not require licensed builders to maintain any level of continuing education. “This program is good for our builders” said Friend, “but it is even better news for consumers.” Friend said only twenty states require a person to take a written test to be licensed. “We believe that by going beyond what the state requires of builders, we set ourselves apart from the average builder.” Master Builders must meet a long list of set criteria to be accepted into the program. Once a builder has been accepted, he must maintain a level of continuing education. A complete list of program requirements can be found online at www.masterbuildersc.org.

The team also brings expertise in property, especially the unique needs of East Coast and Caribbean resorts. The Columbia office is the first Regions Insurance office located in South Carolina and the third significant addition to Regions Insurance over the past six months as part of the firm’s efforts to expand its coverage and capabilities throughout the Southeast. Table To p Night
The Board of Directors had a friendly wager of which half could bring in the most new members by Table Top Night. Those on the losing side had to serve hors d’oeuvres. Here’s Scott Heron and Jimmy Derrick doing just that.
We held a Table Top Night for our June membership meeting. For those of you who do not know what that is, Table Top Night is a one-night trade show where members show their products and services to other members. It’s a great way to let fellow members know what your company does, and to drum up some new business. Table Top Night is always a fun evening with a party atmosphere. The theme of this recent event was Beat The Heat. Participating companies played into this theme with beach attire, umbrellas, sunscreen and the like. Judges roamed the aisles looking for the company with the best decoration and awarded Best Display to Mortgage Options, Inc. Their Tiki
Congratulations to Mortgage Options who was awarded Best Display at Table Top Night held in June.
Bar display was by far the most popular and talked about display of the event. At the end of the night, exhibitors gave out lots of great door prizes to attendees. The HBA also awarded one Builder Member in attendance with a trip to the Grove Park Inn as part of the Beat the Heat Membership Drive. Congratulations to Greg Lehman, winner of that prize. Thanks to all of our participants and to everyone who came out to Seawell’s on June 13 - despite the bad - weather for this event!
