A Brand New College Experience The Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and Columbia University offers students an international undergraduate educational experience—a program spanning two continents, in cosmopolitan cities that allow students to engage directly with the world around them. The program draws upon elements both traditional and innovative, combining the academic rigor of two worldrenowned universities with an attention to the roles that social and cultural traditions play in a student’s intellectual formation. By offering two distinct learning environments, the Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program seeks to present a variety of experiences that allow students to challenge themselves and develop a richly-textured understanding of an increasingly globalized world. Students will complete the undergraduate curricula of both City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University, alongside a uniquely diverse group of fellow students.

Located in the Kowloon section of Hong Kong, CityU is a rapidly growing institution with 20,000 students and more than 3,000 faculty and staff spanning the fields of business, creative media, data science, energy and environment, engineering, law, liberal arts and social sciences, science, and veterinary medicine and life sciences. The CityU campus offers state-of-the-art facilities and is easily accessible by mass transit.

Located in the Morningside Heights neighborhood on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the Columbia University campus is designed to be an urban academic village that offers students the opportunity to dedicate themselves to an academic life in the heart of New York City. More than 26,000 students are enrolled at Columbia University and enjoy close, collegial interaction with faculty members who are widely recognized as leading scholars in their disciplines. Attend Orientation, meet with Columbia academic advisor to plan course schedule, discuss which CityU courses fulfill GS Core requirements, and declare a corresponding major.

Two Colleges, Two Degrees, Four Years As a Joint Degree Program student, you will be immersed in two elite research universities whose academic, social, and cultural environments offer the best of both cities. During years one and two, you will pursue one of the eligible majors at CityU: Asian and International Studies, Applied Physics, Biological Sciences, Business Analysis, Business Economics, Computational Finance and Financial Technology, Computer Science, Computing Mathematics, Criminology and Sociology, Psychology, or Public Policy and Politics. During years three and four, you will continue your studies in the Columbia University major that corresponds to

Complete GS Core and major requirements and participate in Class Day and Commencement graduation ceremonies to celebrate earning degrees from both CityU and Columbia University.

The Program is open to full-time students in one of the governmentfunded, four-year bachelor’s degree programs listed below.

Originally founded in 1754 as King’s College, Columbia University is the fifth-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and one of the world’s leading research centers. Founded in 1947, the School of General Studies (GS) is the undergraduate college at Columbia dedicated to students who pursue a traditional education through nontraditional paths. GS administers all international jointand dual-degree programs at the undergraduate level at Columbia University, allowing traditionally-aged students the opportunity to take an innovative approach to their education.

Students will pay tuition to the institution that they are currently attending.

Students with excellent academic performance are eligible for scholarships at CityU based on academic merit or financial need. CityU students accepted to the Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program may also apply for scholarships/awards that are designated for their studies at Columbia.

Tuition at CityU is billed biannually and tuition and fees are determined based on whether students hold Hong Kong residency or are considered non-local (are entering Hong Kong on a student visa or entry permit).

Students in the program will be eligible to apply for financial aid at Columbia University consistent with other students enrolled at the School of General Studies.

Tuition is billed per credit hour, with full-time enrollment being 12 or more credits per semester and total fees vary based on enrollment status. Regardless of citizenship or residency status, all students pay the same tuition rate.
