Sip! The Shuswap

WINERIES

Although the Shuswap can be considered the northern tip of the Okanagan wine growing region, our climate is cooler than the southern interior regions of BC and creates exceptional products. Each vineyard enjoys a unique microclimate, producing singular flavours that only develop here. With wineries of outstanding quality established throughout the region, a tasting tour is a must for visitors seeking to delight all five senses! The Shuswap’s wineries are family run businesses that produce wines so fine they compete on par with international wines. They’ve created magnificent Gewürztraminers, Merlots, Ortegas, Rieslings, Siegerrebes, to name a few, which have all won national awards.

No matter what your preference, you will find some great authentic and locally grown and produced beverages right here in the Shuswap. And the owners are happy to host you in their tasting rooms. Cheers!

GOOD FROM THE GROUND UP

The Shuswap is one of the most fertile agricultural areas of BC. With farm stands and farm markets across the region, you can easily find a bounty of locally grown fruits and vegetables, meats, locally produced milk and cheese as well as crafts, baked goods and sweet and savoury preserves, to prepare your own feast. As for quenching your thirst, the Shuswap has a fine selection of wineries, breweries, cideries and distilleries to provide the perfect accompaniment to those memorable meals. Check out our FOOD & DRINK GUIDE!

BREWERIES

The Shuswap region is home to breweries that pride themselves on using only the finest local ingredients to produce beers and ales. Crannóg Ales in Sorrento is Canada’s first Certified Organic farmhouse microbrewery, one of only a handful around the world. Visit Ricochet Brewing & Taphouse and the Barley Station Brew Pub in Downtown Salmon Arm any day of the week for a sampler of their seasonal and limited-edition blends and a delicious bite to eat.

CIDERIES

Is cider your thing? It might be after a visit to Northyard Cider Co. or Shuswap Cider Co — both located in Salmon Arm. This region is known for its tree fruits; apples, peaches, pears, plums and lavender! And they can all be used to make cider. Yum.

DISTILLERIES

Hankering for some good old fashioned Monashee Mountain moonshine? After Dark Distillery has just that and more. Visit them in Downtown Sicamous for a tasting and tour. Shuswap Highland Stills is a farm craft distillery located in Salmon Arm specializing in microbatch spirits and liqueurs. Both offer award-winning spirits!
