Executive Master of Science in Technology Management
Lead a digitally disrupted world.
Message from the Academic Director
“It’s one thing to innovate. It’s another thing to implement and manage innovation throughout an enterprise. At Columbia, we prepare you to do all three.” Arthur “Art” Langer, Ed.D. Professor of Professional Practice Academic Director, M.S. in Technology Management Program, School of Professional Studies, Columbia University Director, Center for Technology Management, Columbia University
Executive Master of Science in Technology Management
Digital disruption is transforming the way we do business. And while there are lots of good ideas, most of them ultimately fail. Very often, poor management is the chief culprit. For more than 15 years, Columbia’s Executive Master of Science in Technology Management program has been developing leaders who are prepared to effectively and confidently steer an enterprise in a digitally disrupted world. Equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and skills and a powerful network, our graduates often advance into the C-suite at top businesses around the world. Quite simply, you won’t find another institution with the in-house expertise and curriculum that Columbia offers. Our key features include: • Our exclusive network of 260+ mentors. From the start, each and every student is selected by a leading technology executive for year-long mentorship. The mentor provides dedicated, one-onone guidance as the student develops their own business plan. Students enter the program with an idea, but through our highly personalized mentorships, they graduate with fully-developed, actionable business plans. • A practical approach to learning. Our coursework and the master’s project help students to master core business functions—finance, accounting, and leadership—and fully develop business plans of their own. • An accelerated format for working professionals. It takes just 16 months to complete our program. The combination of online courses, including areas of focus, and in-person seminars in New York City or Paris provides students with the flexibility to tailor the experience to their goals. All roads lead to technology. And at Columbia, we will prepare you to lead the way.
You’ve got ideas.
Natalie Spano ’14SPS Managing Director of Sales and Service Transformation, KPMG US
“ What I found unique about the program was the breadth of the students who attended it with me, as well as the different types of professors and experience they brought into the classroom. I couldn’t get that in my current workplace or even any of the subsequent positions that I’ve held, because you don’t often get someone from healthcare, from financial services, someone with deep technical expertise, a lawyer and someone who specializes in organizational psychology in the room together.”

Businesses need people like you — individuals who not only innovate and embrace new trends and tools in technology, but can manage them in a way that ultimately drives a business’s competitive advantage and longevity. At Columbia University, we equip you with the skills, strategies, and connections you’ll need to successfully navigate an enterprise through the massive changes coming in the next decade.
“ Technology Management sets you up to realize that your expertise in whatever technology field you’re in does not translate to a CEO, or a CFO, or even a CMO or salesperson. They don’t care about the bits and bytes; they care about, ‘How much revenue am I going to make?’ and ‘Is my next product going to make me more revenue?’ The Technology Management program gives you the tools to speak their language.”

“ I have been overwhelmed and amazed with the industry recognition and respect that comes from earning an Executive Master’s degree... I was blessed with an amazing mentor who pushed me to think and act as an executive. He taught me to own the space that occupies the intersection where business and technology meet. For the first time in my 23-year career in technology, companies have been pursuing me.”

“ Although I have done plenty of presentations before, I have never really had to sell an idea that requires a multimillion dollar investment… Of course, that’s what [my mentor] Jorge [Rodriguez, President & CEO of Claro Enterprise Solutions] does all the time. He was able to express to me how to frame the storyboard, what to focus on, and what would grab people’s attention—the sales pitch, basically.”
