Trapped! is a comic published in 1951 by Columbia University Press for the Committee on Narcotics of
the Welfare Council of New York City. It was produced for the Communication Materials Center by
Information Comics Division, Harvey Publications, Inc. Trapped! tells the story of Bill Jones, a high school
student who succumbs to peer pressure and experiments with marijuana. When the marijuana no
longer gives him the desired high, he moves on to heroin. Bill descends from popular varsity athlete to
juvenile delinquent. The comic ends with Bill being imprisoned for committing an armed robbery. He is
released and sent to a federal hospital for six months. Bill’s father assures him that “They’ll help you lick
this thing!”
