THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH HOME & GARDEN SHOW EVENT GUIDE The columbus dispatch Columbus weddings show event guide
to the Columbus Weddings Show It is with great joy that I welcome you, dear reader, to the return of the Columbus Weddings Show presented by Worthington Jewelers. Canceling last year’s show was a difficult, but necessary, decision, and I think I speak for everyone involved when I say we are so excited to safely gather once more to showcase all the Central Ohio wedding industry has to offer. We’re back and better than ever this year, with new offerings that are sure to delight engaged couples and their families and friends: Celebrity wedding planner David Tutera will be here on Saturday and Sunday to do a live Q&A with attendees; a Runway Show, produced by Thomas McClure of Fashion Week Columbus, will take place before and after Tutera takes the stage each day. A new Beauty Bar by Paul Mitchell will allow guests to get a quick makeover right on-site, and the Gallery of Gowns returns with a twist—a hot rod that’s sure to inspire your own post-reception getaway car. On Saturday, we’re hosting a sparkling wine tasting to help you pick your best bubbly for pre-dinner toasts, and on Sunday, you can unwind with a Wine & Canvas event. Of course, we can’t forget the vendors themselves: More than 100 of the region’s best will be on hand to talk about your day, and many will offer free samples or special discounts that you can only get at the show. Enjoy the show and happy planning! Emma Frankart Henterly Editor, Columbus Weddings magazine
Good to know… Thanks to a slew of rescheduled pandemic-era weddings, 2022 is predicted to be the biggest year for weddings in almost 40 years, and 2023 won’t be far behind. If you’re planning to get married in the next two years, you’ll want to book all of your vendors as early as possible to ensure the wedding of your dreams. The 100-plus vendors at the Columbus Weddings Show cover virtually every aspect of wedding planning, making the show a great place to start your search! Supply chain and ongoing labor issues means more than longer waits at your favorite restaurants; these challenges are taking effect on the wedding industry, too. Plan ahead and place orders for everything from wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses to décor items as early as possible to ensure they arrive in time for your big day. Because of the pandemic, smaller weddings and non-traditional days (like Fridays and Sundays) remain popular. Both elements often translate to lower costs, giving you ample opportunity to reallocate those funds into wow-worthy elements that you might not have considered otherwise. A fresh floral arbor to exchange vows under? A Champagne display to greet guests as they enter the reception? Indoor fireworks to illuminate your first dance? Go for it!

hen people are looking for help turning their wedding dreams into reality, the name David Tutera frequently comes to mind. That’s because Tutera and his talented team have been working for more than 30 years to ensure that each event they plan is a oneof-a-kind experience. To create those memories that will last a lifetime, Tutera and his team focus on telling a story through the details of the event. To ensure that every event is given the proper time, energy, and attention to detail, Tutera and his team only take on a select number of events per year. Tutera – who has worked on events for Sir Elton John, Prince Charles, Zendaya, Barbara Walters and many more celebrities - has become such a sought-after name that he also now is an event mentor and world-renowned speaker. Additionally, each year since 2017, Tutera and his team host the David Tutera Experience. This is a three-day conference where those in event entertainment attend sessions about their industry, network with others, and attend nightly events planned by Tutera. Tutera also has been able to share his talent and knowledge on several hit television shows. Tutera has starred in Lifetime’s “My Great Big Wedding with David Tutera,”
Discovery Channel’s “The Party Planner,” WE tv’s “My Fair Wedding with David Tutera,” “David Tutera Unveiled,” “CELEBrations with David Tutera,” and the Food Network’s “Surprise Party Wedding Cake Championship.” When he was younger, Tutera’s grandfather - a successful florist - noticed the skill and ability that Tutera possessed. He encouraged Tutera to use those skills and make himself into something great. Tutera listened to his grandfather, and at the age of 19, he opened a party-planning business with only one client.
Today, Tutera is one of the most successful event and entertainment planners in the world, and he is bringing his expertise to the 2022 Columbus Weddings Show. He will talk from 2:15-3 p.m. Jan. 15 and 16 at Kasich Hall at The Ohio Expo Center. To learn more about the show, visit https://www. dispatchshows.com/columbus-weddings-show. Worthington Jewelers uses decades of experience to help make customers’ dreams come true
F
or more than two decades, Worthington Jewelers has tried to be the first destination on a wedding-planning journey. The family-owned and operated business was founded in 2000 by husband-and-wife Bob and Theresa Capace. “Since we founded Worthington Jewelers 21 years ago, we have promoted ourselves as the place Columbus goes to get engaged,” Bob Capace said. Based at 692 High St. in downtown Worthington, Worthington Jewelers is the presenting sponsor of the 2022 Columbus Wedding Show Jan. 15-16 at the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair, 717 E. 17th Ave. Worthington Jewelers is a second career of sorts for Capace, a father of five and grandfather of seven. “I have always been a kind of entrepreneur and spent a lot of time in outside sales,” Capace said. Outside sales are where he became acquainted with a network of people in the jewelry industry. “I became a personal jeweler (and) after a while decided to make it into a business,” Capace said. “It is family-owned and operated by me, my wife, and some other family members.” Capace describes the Worthington Jewelers store as a “welcoming place,” with lots of natural lighting. The showroom at the store, on the green in Old Worthington, was expanded to about 1,600 square feet eight years ago, doubling its original size. Customers are greeted at first by a noncommissioned consultant to learn what a customer wants or needs to know, Capace said. Each customer is unique, but the goal to make a customer’s dream come true is the same, he said. “Sometimes it is custom-making something in our store, but sometimes it is using what a customer might already have, like an existing ring that has been in a family (for generations),” Capace said. “We don’t just sell from the case,” and not every jeweler will work with customers who have their own jewelry to repurpose. About 40% of what the store sells is custom-made, Capace said. Worthington Jewelers also provides many other services, including on-site custom jewelry design, jewelry repair and appraisals. It also specializes in transforming old or neglected jewelry into “heirloom-quality designs,” Capace said. Worthington Jewelers buys diamonds and gold and will accept jewelry in trade. As presenting sponsor of the 2022 Columbus Wedding Show, Capace said, although Worthington Jewelers “is at the front of the line” in the process of being engaged, the Columbus Wedding Show is the place to plan the rest of the stops on the wedding journey. “After you have chosen the right rings and are engaged, all the others things can fall in place, and we are here to point our customers in the right direction by introducing them to other vendors (at the Columbus Wedding Show),” Capace said.

Worthington Jewelers has been recognized in the industry recently with several awards, including the Wedding Wire Couple’s Choice Award from 2015 to 2020, the 2021 Columbus Monthly “Best Place to Buy Jewelry” and the No. 1 CBUS Top Pick for Best Jewelry Store from 2017 to 2021.
